My first time to hear this particular piece of music, it's the best. Then I have never heard anything by Anne Sophie Mutter that didn't excel. She is No1 in my book.
This must be the best masterpiece performance of Tchaikovsky violin concerto in D. I hope Anne-Sophie would understand how much I worship her. When Karajan picked up her and poured his tremendous energy into her artistic success, I didn't understand it well. At that time her teen performance was not that impressive to me. But now I feel she is the greatest inheritance that he left for us.
Listened to a recording of her playing this piece with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra last night on my drive home. What a cathartic experience. Heartrendingly beautiful.
When I close my eyes, her violin sounds like played by a male. So energetic and powerful, however, once the music goes into piano part, sounds very feminine. Marvelous player!
Paganini would have sitting at her feet and listen. :) I will be honored to listen to her in Frankfurt/Germany next month. This is the crismas gift for my soulmate :) Hope, he will freak out, finding the tickets under the tree :)
Heartbreakingly beautiful and effervescently Russian to the highest level!! The sound of the violin is full mysterious layers of musical.cacophony that it makes me speechless.. so enigmatic and with the gaiety and splendor of old world aestheticism. This is Faberge moment!
@@daniel3231995Early on I had difficulty understanding Mutter's interpretation of the classics precisely because of the things that you mention. But this interpretation of Tchaikovsky surprised me enough to revise my opinion. It sounds better than her interpretation of the Beethoven which has all the negatives you mention.
Certainly one of the finest performances I've ever heard. Mind-boggling virtuosity. I've heard her play this piece in person (Buffalo NY Phil, 2018). She plays it much differently now.
De início o violino parece CHORAR ...... depois parece QUEIXAR-SE ........ depois REAGE ........ depois FICA TRISTE ....... e finalmente fica CONTENTE ....FELIZ ! ...... Bonita peça e bonita interpretação ! ...
Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovsky: Concerto para violino e orquestra em Ré maior, op. 35 (Anne-Sophie Mutter) I. Allegro moderato II. Canzonetta - Andante III. Finale - Allegro vivacissimo
I'm not a huge Tchaikovsky fan. But this version of his violin concerto might convert me. It's very fast, which I rather like, particularly when combined with the typical Anne-Sophie romantic exuberance.
Anne Sophie EXTRAORDINARIA.
Does anyone know how two different versions of this piece, especially the last movement, came about? This versions missed out some small sections. For example at 25:00 those twiddly bits are not repeated before the modulation, like they usually are.
+Td Lewis There are more than two versions, many are shortened, e.g., Jascha Heifetz's, Pincas Zuckerman's. (Heifetz learned it from Auel, who learned it from Tchaikovsky but didn't care for it.) I've read that some performers and conductors omit what they consider needless repetitions in the piece. Anne-Sophie Mutter's version here is one of the worst I've heard played (the other is Joshua Bell's). Maybe she doesn't care much for the Tchaikovsky or hadn't mastered it yet. She certainly doesn't sound like a first tier violinist here, more like a kid at an audition. Yet she is peerless, and deserves the majesty of her reputation, so she must have been under duress or was ill when she played this performance. She hurries too often (and forces the orchestra to hurry), she elides strokes, sometimes squeaks and squawks, sometimes sounds drunk. It lacks grace and therefore is unpardonable.
+PrettyStuzz There's certainly a big differencr between this performance and the one she recorded in 2004 with André Previn and the London Symphony Orchesta, which I simply adore. I specially didn't like this performing of the Canzonetta.
If one listens to enough specimens of her playing one tends to conclude she wasn't especially out of her way, ill or under duress. Rushing was always her tendency, not to mention other less to be desired styles of interpretation and intonation. Never got what was the hype about her honestly… But perhaps its simply my OWN personal preference...

I want to see her playing Tchaikovsky in person in my lifetime. I might cry.
I know I would 😅
One of the most beautiful bel canto of all time
Her performance is as close to perfection as you will hear in a lifetime! Wonderful!

Divine! I have heard this concerto so many times, including D. Oistrakh live, but Lady Anne-Sophie Mutter is the best!
Merci

..abd Mutter its wonderful
Classical Tchaikovsky. Takes me back to the days of Heifetz, Menuhin, and Stern.
Wonderfull
Absolutely. She rivals all three of them, even the great Jascha Heifetz!
🙏.. can we just live with this..almost too unbearably grace to handle
really far from it,mutter somehow puts a very modern, feminine spice with overuse of rubato, glissandi

Really? How so?
She has such release in her sound!!!
Singing violin, flying sound and contrasting performance at its best
she struggled a lot in her personal life maybe that's why if helped her to express musically
Anne is the Best!
That's the most beautiful concert
Excellent technique!!!
Anne-Sophie, plays and interpret music in these days, where we have to suffer musicless events. May god keep her, far away from today spectacles!
Igor Krochin I'm guessing that's a compliment..right?? :)
Cubic Cuber "may god keep her away from today's spectacles" not a compliment lol
Please explain?

Fantastic playing by all, but did anyone else find that the clarinet at the opening of the 2nd movement was a little flat?
well thats apparently right but even anne sophie has been little flat at the opening of mvt 1 so this might be depending on acustical stuff
