Hi friends, if you are new here, welcome to the sunflower family, I’m Holly Auna. We do a “Monday crochet” live stream every Monday at 5pm ct followed by a new video! On this channel, we do crochet, gardening, vlogs, renfaires, DIYs, thrifting, silly hair things and so much more! 🌻🧶👩🏻🌾🪴🐸
Great video! The test and honest feedback on the yarn spinner was great!! I was just wondering what yard were you using when u were testing the crochet rings? And yes I’ve already watched part 2 (more then once 😊)
The hook with the stitch counter could be great for when you chain for a blanket. Imagine needing to crochet 300 stitches, so crochet 10 stitches, then hit the button. So you only hit the button 30 times, and you can make sure you don't loose track of where you are. I personally couldn't see me pressing that button for every stitch, but counting by 5 or 10 sounds super helpful
I’m doing a temperature blanket and did 250 stitches. I placed a stitch marker every 20 then 10 because thats the amount I had lol but yeah same concept! Great idea!
I am a self taught crocheter, (with the help of the internet) and never was taught how to hold the yarn or hook, but as you were explaining how your grandma taught you to hold your yarn, I looked down (I was in the middle of crocheting) and realized that’s the exact way I instinctively hold my yarn 😅🩵
I ended up holding it differently than the person who taught me initially (it was like a half hour of them teaching me to chain and single crochet lmao), and it turns out a lot of people hold it the same way I do 😂
I taught myself how to crochet back in the 80s when TH-cam didn't exist. I just picked up the yarn and copied what I saw my mom doing because she absolutely refused to teach me how. But I never held my yarn the way she did, or like the lady in the video holds hers, I hold my totally different...lol I used to resent my mother for being that selfish of a person (she's a Boomer...lol) but the fact that my skills surpass hers many times over, I'm glad I didn't learn from her...lol
For the wooden yarn holder, I found if you move your skein up the holding stick a little so its not fully flat on the base of it, it stops most of the small getting stuck moments and just keeps going smoothly!
i just bought a yarn spinner/baller thing and its pretty good but takes a while to make the cakes. now im like why didnt i find the magnetic spinner sooner!
The little “mini watch” stitch counter comes in very handy for amigurumi or similarly complicated patterns. I put it on the same finger you did and count each stitch, and I love it because I’m already having to pay close attention to which stitch I’m on, so I can’t get in a mindless flow.
Honestly, the little finger stitch counter is my favorite thing. I watch a lot of tv and listen to music a lot when crocheting, which makes me loose my place. So after every stitch, my brain and thumb just automatically hits the little button to count
@@isaacjustisaac9738it’s not a prayer, it’s called “dhikr” or “zikr” (english spelling of the arabic word) it’s like supplication kinda. imagine like christian’s who say hallelujah 10x or so, but we say certain words like alhumdulillah, la illaha ilallah etc. (god is great, allah is the one and only god etc etc). it’s kinda like a rosary except it’s just to keep numbers of how many times we say it. it’s not compulsory either just another way of saying thank you god!
@@HollyAuna Everybody gets yarn barf with centre-pull; it is just one of those things. You pull out the yarn barf, use it up, and then you've got your centre-pull going.
I often use a yarn bowl *with* centre-pull, because the yarn bowl is still holding the ball in place nicely, which can be helpful if the ball is tight and needs more tugging to get the yarn out.
Came back to add a new comment. I ordered the yarn spinner last night. It came today and I absolutely love it. My cat keeps hitting it when it spins but I love not pulling.
A crochet spinner has been an absolute game changer for me! My partner 3d printed one from a free stl, I take it everywhere with me because it’s made crocheting outside the house so accessible to me. I do rewind my yarn into cakes for it. But I can not recommend it enough for people who want to crochet at the coffee shop, at work, today my partner went to the driving range and I sat and used my spinner and crocheted while I watched him. 10/10 can not recommend enough
For a yarn bowl I use a large metal ikea bowl (BLANDA BLANK). It doesn't have the little cutout to feed the yarn through, but you don't really need that. I just set it on the floor below me while I sit on the couch and crochet. The sides are smooth so the yarn unravels super easy, it's heavy so it doesn't tip or move, and it keeps the skein from running away.
I also use a metal bowl to hold my yarn. I use a medium binder clip on the side and slip the yarn through the metal loop handles. It's super handy to stow my hook and project I'm working on.
I saw someone make a yarn bowl out of a hat box. They just made a hole in the lid of the box and put a washer inside the hole. Now they can put the yarn inside the box, pull a thread through the hole, and put the lid back on to keep the yarn from getting dust on it.
Ok the walk and crochet, theres something fabulous about putting my yarn on a leash. 😂😂😂 i usually use huge skeins that would never work for that but i really want one now.
@@heathertomlinson1961 i used chopsticks, a lanyard and a cardboard circle out of an Amazon box with duct tape to make my own bigger and taller one! It works perfectly!
I'm a crochet walker, too. I just have the yarn in a bag and use the center pull. It has to be a pattern I can just keep banging out without too much counting or thinking, like a granny, that sort of thing. LOL, the looks I get while waiting in lines doing this are hilarious.
My daughter kept stealing my hoodies. I found out it was because she found the pocket perfect for holding a center pull skein so she could walk and crochet
I NEED that first product. The yarn spinner... Omg. I have 4 cats, one of them absolutely LOVES to grab my yarn ball and run around the house with it. That spinner would be amazing
I have the finger counter and I use it for counting my rows and I love mine. I think I would use all the products except that yarn bowl thing. I really want that adorable walk around crochet holder. This will have to be my late Mothers Day gift to myself.
Hi! While wAtching this vid, I pulled out my own light up set that I never used because the hook kept falling out. Thanks to you, I found out I wasn't tightening the thing enough. I have a tally counter ring and I love it!
I have one of the wooden yarn spinners. It is fantastic. I love it. I used to do center pull, but the spinner is so much better. I found that cotton yarn skeins tend to lose their shape and squish down (the same way the 2nd skein you tried on it did), which then makes it catch and not spin freely. So what I do is wind it into a cake and it works perfectly.
With the last item, the wrist spinner, put the skein on in the other direction so it creates a better pulling tension. I bet it will not tangle as often!
I'm kind of new to crochet (I can make a simple blanket but I'm only just starting to learn to read a pattern). However I've been knitting for more than 50 years. I got one of those ring counters about a year ago and love it! It's great for counting rows. Not sure if I'll use it for crochet but for knitting it's a game changer
Hi! loved this video. the last one, the wrist yarn spinner - its actually a counterfeit version of the Lemonwood Mini Minder - They're on etsy as Lemonwood Fiber tools. They're more expensive but they're handmade with high quality materials and a small business. Thye also spin really well and have a larger version for bigger skeins
When I was at Disney I used that final surprise hack and I used a plastic hook, since the alarms would beep at me with my metal ergonomic ones. It was *awesome*
ohmygosh you’re driving me crazy with the rings LOL I have odd joints in my fingers so it’s very difficult for me to keep correct tension (it’s why it took me years to learn) but I found adjustable crystal rings and used them to help and they are a GAME CHANGER!! You don’t have to get crochet specific rings, MANY places sell them labeled as adjustable rings! and if they’re too big (like in the video) you can squeeze them tighter! easy peasy:)
My mom got me some crochet rings for my birthday and its amazinggg. I typically hold the yarn in between my pointer and middle finger so my hand cramps up after awhile. The rings are a life changer. Ive tried holding my yarn other ways, but they are not comfy on my hands. The rings are also so cute so its a win-win ❤😊
The yarn spinner is hands down the best knitting gadget I've ever bought. Put off because felt it was unnecessary but with a dog who loves yarn balls its needed.
With the walking thingy, and you're on you're on the treadmill,,,well you are working those arms at the same time! So, hey,,,you're getting a two for one workout! Thanks for sharing these!!
I have the hook with the stitch counter and it lights up, it’s so useful and I literally love it so much for travel crocheting, crocheting in bed, or even with dark yarn!!
I've just picked up a book for the first time in 41 years & I'm struggling🤦 Just found your channel and I love your energy and how you explain things. Thank you ☺️
I have the yarn bowl/crochet station which I use every day, the row counter 'ring' which I use whenever I'm making amigurumi and the interchangeable crochet hook which I use whenever we go camping. These items may not suit everyone, but they make my crochet life easier and more enjoyable xx
Awe I’m glad you clicked! Welcome to the sunflower family 🌻🧶 (and if you want to see more weird crochet things I posted a part two lol! This series has been so much fun)
I love my crochet finger counter! I use it for amigurumi for every, "3sc and inc do 6 times" or whatever I count each 3sc increase as 1 and then i know how many I've done. Sometimes I'll wear 2 (or set the 2nd one next to me) one for rows, one for stitches.
That yarn spinner is a must have for me. I am a pencil holder BUT i can't part with both of my grandmas crochet hooks for that electric hook. I inherited all their crochet supplies, patterns and yarn when they passed away. For the ring counter I have a package of 2 from my maternal grandma's crochet stuff I inherited and i use it on my middle finger on my left hand and I use it to count rows for me when I'm making baby blankets and plushies. Especially the plushies because the stitch counts change almost every row and I lose track of the rows easily. I've got too much of a tight tension to use those crochet rings.
Middle finger of the left hand, same for me! I have a truly terrible working memory, so I do need to use it to count every stitch, and that's how I got comfortable with it.
I had a nice ceramic yarn bowl that I loved. Cat broke it by pushing it off the table. The wood one I have is nice but some yarns stick. The yarn spinner looks great.
Ooh I also have a cat toy tip! My cat absolutely loves pipe cleaners, like the colorfull ones you can use for arts and crafts, especially when I bend them into little shapes. I got some randomly when she was a kitten do do some kind of craft with and right away she wanted some and has been obsessed ever since. She even figured out where I kept them and started pulling them out of the drawer they were in by herself 😅. I think she loves that she can pick them up because she takes them everywhere (I wake up with some in my bed sometimes 😅) and has even been playing fetch with them lately. She also likes to swipe them up with her paws and throw them aroud and run after them 😊
Thank you for showing us the hanging magnetic yarn holder! I bought myself a similar one (and added a scrap CD to the bottom of the hanging bit to make the base wider) and it has been awesome! Really great for yarn where you cannot do centre-pull, such as the kind of lace-weight yarn which they wrap around cardboard rolls.
I am an absolute beginner at crochet and I am really struggling with tension. I just bought the crochet rings so hopefully that will help. I’m learning so I can make myself bandannas and whenever my friend has a kid I can make it a blanket 😊 all I’ve made so far is swatches but I’m… hooked lmfao. I’m cycling between my OG hobby of cross stitch and this new hobby of crochet. Wish me luck y’all!
I use a crochet ring that has numbers on it and you twist it to count rows. Knitter’s Pride makes it. I got it off Amazon. Best tool I’ve ever used. It’s so easy to use. I put it on my thumb.
For the yarn caddy (walking yarn holder) you can put a cake of yarn that is larger than the base and it holds it just fine. My husband has 3D printed a few for me. I use mine all the time. I agree with you on the magnetic yarn holder. It is my all time favorite.
Your walking spinner, I have a suggestion. Apply graphite to the metal where it spins at. Graphite makes metal slick and I feel it would allow the mechanism to move freely. I keep graphite around at all times. It’s the greatest when you squeeze it into a lock. Run your key in and out a few times and BAM. Also great for any kind of door. Even car doors.
I have a gen 1 yarn spinner (like a paper towel holder on a lazy Susan), crochet rings (the losing them *is* an issue), and the finger counter which I have found amazingly useful while making a Doctor Who scarf- it keeps track of the rows of each color for me. I like all of them.
I would love the yarn holder that you like even the travel one. I also love the little finger yarn row counter,I use that every time I crochet. Thanks for reviewing everything and giving your opinion. Hugs
They have so many new things for new crocheters. I still make balls for some projects. My favorite is the center pull. They didn’t have all these things when I started.
the last one spins really well if you hook it above you! mine came with a hook. the yarn spinning strap is literally my favorite yarn tool ever. i also to hook to my purse while im at appointments. & in hospitals/dialysis (im a frequent flier) ill hook it to iv poles and it spins perfectly. Youve definitely pushed me to get a wooden magnet one for at home!
Really enjoyed this video. There were products I’ve been curious about. The yarn spinners have been on my list. The ring counters, I’ve tried and was disappointed. Instead, I use this silicone “pop it” toy that has numbers up to 100. It works amazing for smaller projects like amigurumi. I have another that goes to 30. I also have a clickable counter for knitting that goes to 100. Those two methods are my favorite. I actually have a ring that I love. It’s bendable and sized for plus size fingers. I love it and it has made my tension more consistent with my amigurumi. I love the hooks. I think I have the same set. The square thing, I haven’t ordered because it seemed flimsy to me. Anyways, thanks for the video! Looking forward to more of this type of video in future! 🧶💜
I found that it really wasn't that great forme bc the light is at the bottom of the hook. I think it would be more useful if the head would light up so you could see the stitch, especially when working with dark yarn. 🤔
I’m so happy about the rings, im really struggling with yarn tension as a new crocheter, and I’ve been considering getting them. I’ll definitely get them now!!
The row counting ring is something I use All The Time when following a pattern. I absolutely love it❤ I love that you did these reviews. Thank you so much. Based on your opinions I definitely should rush and buy the wood yarn spinner. I’m so pleased to see how strong the magnetic 🧲 part holds ❤
Hi I 'm 11 year old I am about to start crocheting I had no idea how to crochet and your video's really help I wrote this to tell you thank you I wrote this in this video because I forgot to write 😅
I have the lighted crochet hook and my tips used to fall off all the time until I actually used the wrench and got them to snap into place. They never fell off again LOL It's one of my favorites because it fits my hand better than the standard hooks do, and the light is super handy. It's so much more comfortable for me to use that I tend to default to it now. I can't see using the stitch counter one, I'd forget to click after each stitch LOL
OMG the beauty blender! I needed to see this video like a week ago (was using a little steel hook and seriously messed up one of my fingers (not seriously like hospital worthy, but I did call an advice nurse to make sure I didn't need to do anything other than what I was). I even have some foam blender things in my bathroom. WRT: crochet rings, some of those models look fine, but some of them are definitely designed more for right handed folks (especially the type where you put the yarn under the peacock's tail and then over the head), but I'll have to look out for the pup, he looks adorable!
I learned about the beauty blender hack last fall, it legitimately saved me on a couple custom order deadlines. I work in a factory so repetitive motion can be an issue for me as I have mild carpal tunnel. The beauty blender has a permanent home in my crochet kit now.
Oh it seems like it would get in the way for me but I’m willing to try it because I have carpal and cubital tunnel and if it stops my wrist from getting sore I’m all for it
The yarn spinner will work perfectly with caked yarn. I always cake my yarn because the figure 8 style wound skeins always have yarn barf 😅 personaly i use an old 5litre pickle jar that i made a crochet cover for as a yarn bowl XD I do own the crochet rings. I use them for things like jute that cause excessive friction and make my finger sore
A tension ring was a game changer for me. I can't tension the yarn in my left hand without my hand cramping, and the ring allows me to crochet more conventionally (I had to switch up how I tension both knitting and crochet). I really enjoy mine, it's an octopus :)
I have so so many of those little counters that look like watches. I put it on my left thumb (I’m right handed) that holds my work and I have gotten fast at tapping it with my other thumb after every row. (I don’t use it for stitches) and it’s so helpful for stuffed animals!
Love my tension ring, it’s a cat head and keeps my yarn more forward on my finger instead of ending up at the base where my hand tend to be warmer and my yarn doesn’t slide as easily.
My hands lock up and cramp up a lot very easilly and for me the rings help me crochet longer without having that issue so def recommend them for people like me who have hand/mobility issues and or dyspraxia haha
For the first one, i just use a bucket. I have a pretty one woth flowers and I also use it to transport my materials around my house or to my car if I'm travelling. It was under $5CAD and works great.
Hi, thanks so much for showing all of these yarn work aids. The rings look especially helpful, and the spinner, fantastic ! Also the beauty blender hack looks great for those of us with a touch of arthritis 😊
Hey Holly, about your loose crochet heads I have the same product you mentioned and a quick suggestion is to screw in the head until you hear and feel the click! Love your channel, been a follower for a while now and you’re so amazing❤
The ring counter works well if you keep getting interrupted while crocheting and losing your place. I used to crochet at work between customers and I would do 5-10 stitches then click it up to match so it's not as annoying but still keeps my count accurate. or sometimes i use it if i'm watching a show and getting distracted a lot
Omg I love love love you're hair it is Beautiful. Mine was passed my knees about 2 years ago and I got it cut ✂️ to my shoulders, and I have been keeping it that short sense. I am pentecostal so we don't believe in cutting it but it has helped me so much in so many way like saving money on shampoo and headaches and stuff. But I do miss my long hairs so much but another reason I cut it is because as I was getting older it was falling out more and getting thinner and dried out and started looking too scraggly looking.
The rings would be good for stiffer yarns that hurt after a while of using them, like some cottons I would use the counter for counting chains, like for a blanket or other larger starting chain.
I use the stitch counter to count my rows, not stitches. I'm right-handed and wear it on my left thumb. It's out of the way. I also close it up to fit my thumb, then pull it off and on like a ring. Works great.
If you want to try another video, look at yarn ball winders. Ive seen several types and keep wondering about them. I've seen machines, mechanically spun ones and ones that look like sticks that you wind the ball around. As a concept it seems like a useful thing to have, especially if you have to frog a project or have a yarn that doesn't come in a ball

You changed my knitting life..after 60 years ! I adore the yarn spinner with the cakes used from outside 10 out of 10. THANKS
Off topic comment here - I love the shroom wall paper behind you. 😄
We love off topic here 😂 🍄it’s a super easy peel and stick renter friendly paper from Amazon actually!!!!! amzn.to/3wlmepw
I love the row counters. I use mine all the time. Also, my brother was attacked by a peacock when he was younger, so he also does not like them.
With the walking thingy, and you're on you're on the treadmill,,,well you are working those arms at the same time! So, hey,,,you're getting a two for one workout! Thanks for sharing these!!
I used the same orange cotton to make goldfish for my cats and hid cat nip in the stuffing 😊
I have the hook with the stitch counter and it lights up, it’s so useful and I literally love it so much for travel crocheting, crocheting in bed, or even with dark yarn!!
When I used a similar one, I only clicked it every 10 stitches. It was helpful and I didn’t change how I held my hand.
I use a ziplock bag and cut a hole in a corner and thread the yarn through works great.
Oh wow, that's so smart! I need to try this, thanks for sharing 😊
I love my counting hook. I don't really count the stitches, but the rows. It's so useful for counting rows. AND I LOVE THE LIGHT it comes with too!
I love the wall paper behind you! The whole room looks so cozy to crochet in!
TH-cam suggested this video for me and I'm so glad! You are a delight! I need that spinner for sure!
Sometimes I'll wear 2 (or set the 2nd one next to me) one for rows, one for stitches.
i use 2 vases for my crocheting, 1 tall one for bigger skeins and a lower chonky one for cakes. work perfectly!
2:32 Omg this is so true. You have no idea how many times my yarn just jumps off where I’m crocheting. It’s insane
I had a nice ceramic yarn bowl that I loved. Cat broke it by pushing it off the table. The wood one I have is nice but some yarns stick. The yarn spinner looks great.
Of COURSE the cat pushed the yarn bowl off the table!!!
Too much time & attention NOT dedicated to Kitty!!! 😄
Wish me luck y’all!
crochet and cross stitch pair together really well :) i love seeing projects where people combine them! its pretty popular for pillows :)
Tilly is sooo cute!! These all seem sooo cool! Thanks for trying them for us ❤
Tilly is curled up in my lap right now 😭🧶😻
I won’t do a push up for every like this comment gets

I've been looking at the wrist holder thing for a while. Thanks for doing this video. 🥰
I think that the lighted hook set would be great when using dark yarn . Wish I had one right now.
I absolutely love it❤
I love that you did these reviews. Thank you so much.
Based on your opinions I definitely should rush and buy the wood yarn spinner. I’m so pleased to see how strong the magnetic 🧲 part holds ❤
Part two is out now!!!

Thanks for the tip with the make up blender. Work as a activity person in a nursing home this will be good for my group again thank you 😊
With the hook counter you could flip it to hold it more comfortably and push the buttons. The screen won’t be facing you but it’ll still work
Hi I 'm 11 year old I am about to start crocheting I had no idea how to crochet and your video's really help
I wrote this to tell you thank you
I wrote this in this video because I forgot to write 😅
You're fantastic. What a lovely crocheter
would love for this to be a series !!
I just started using a yarn bowl and personally I love it. I even like hand winding the yarn
I use crochet rings! And my favorites are adjustable and it helps me not to strain my hands too much.
LOL I want to try the last one. Crocheting while walking sounds awesome😅
I love the digital row counter. I use it on the hand that holds the crochet hook on my ring vinger
I always cake my yarn because the figure 8 style wound skeins always have yarn barf 😅 personaly i use an old 5litre pickle jar that i made a crochet cover for as a yarn bowl XD
I do own the crochet rings. I use them for things like jute that cause excessive friction and make my finger sore
Thank you for the realistic set up with the yarn holder.
The yarn magnet thing you reviewed was so interesting, I bought myself one, and it's one of the best things I've ever purchased for my crocheting!
I found a hoodie designed for knit/ crochet. It has the pocket open at the top and even has a stitched spot for scissors or another hook.
Omg I wasn’t convinced on the magnetic spiny one but now I desperately want it
Hey Holly, about your loose crochet heads I have the same product you mentioned and a quick suggestion is to screw in the head until you hear and feel the click!
The counting hook is more convenient if you click after 5 or 10 stitches instead of after each stitch. And yes, rows are easier. 😊
Brilliant love this
Omg I love love love you're hair it is Beautiful.
The rings would be good for stiffer yarns that hurt after a while of using them, like some cottons
I would use the counter for counting chains, like for a blanket or other larger starting chain.
This Is a super helpful video! Thank you for testing this out for us! There is so much Cool things for crocheters!!!!
Oh my gosh, thank you for watching. I had so much fun making this video.! I really want to make it a series
I love the counter that looks like a watch. I have 2.
The yarn box is a great concept!
I use the stitch counter to count my rows, not stitches. I'm right-handed and wear it on my left thumb. It's out of the way. I also close it up to fit my thumb, then pull it off and on like a ring. Works great.
Thank you for the last tip! My hand often hurts so I'll give it a try. Greetings from Austria!💜💜💜💜💜
I DIY'd a yarn spinner with an acrylic lazy susan from amazon and a metal paper towel holder from dollar tree.
My favourite colour is green too! Reminds me of nature!! 🍀
Yaaaas 💚🍀🌲🌴🐸
@@HollyAuna ❤️❤️❤️
@@HollyAuna I just subbed and watched all of your crocheting vids eeek ❤️!!
Hi holly you are the reason why i love crocheting and thank you for the video it made me laugh❤❤❤
