Christmas Cake in the Air Fryer ... What could possibly go wrong?

  • Today I'm attempting to do our Christmas cake in the air fryer.
Every year I do a large cake using a family recipe and I cook it in the oven on gas mark 2 for an average of 5 hours. This year I've decided to try doing it in the air fryer. However it means making a smaller cake using my small cake pan, which i feel on reflection is too high for a christmas cake. Plus trying to adapt the air fryer settings to mirror my gas mark setting was not the easiest.
Do we have a recipe for a christmas cake, or a recipe for a disaster? Watch and see!
    Thank you for watching.

Hi Maria, i'm in two minds about doing mine in the air fryer. When i do it in my fan oven it takes one and a quarter hours, i always put a dish of water in the oven so it doesn't dry out. I've got the same scales as you except mine are chrome with a clear bowl, i don't like the digital ones. I usually put cold tea and run in mine, sometimes black treacle. Once over i used to make three at a time, some were for family, I had a large container to mix it in. That used to take some stirring. I've noticed you've got a few more subscribers, hope you can get too 1000

I've always wanted to put alcohol in my cake, then marzipan and ice it. Unfortunately no one likes marzipan or icing so I'd be wasting my time and money on doing that, which is such a shame. Alcohol I'd have to sneak in and hope Dean didn't notice 😂
Tomorrow I'll l show what the cake looks like, but I'll have to show the cutting and taste testing sometime during Christmas.
My subscribers are growing and I'm so grateful for all of you. Thank you 😊

I'll continue doing mine in the oven from now on. I like my air fryer, but I don't think everything is suited to it. Thank you for watching 😊

I know all air fryers are different Maria but that seems a very long time for your cake,it might just have been something to do with the tin foil lifting and restricting the air flow around the oven, the fan lifts it up so you have to weigh it down with cutlery to stop that happening,so sad that your first experience put you off doing another one in the air fryer but honestly my oven is just a cupboard for my air fryer accessories now and I bake loads of cakes etc, Check out Graham gets about,Wendy and him have done a couple, one in the Cosori Air Fryer which took 3 hours and one in their new Air Fryer oven which took just over an hour, th-cam.com/video/U6Rrc-KL-3c/w-d-xo.html

I might try another one in the air fryer. I quite like the idea of the oven air fryers, I just have no where to put one at the moment. What sort of air fryer do you have?
I've taken a look at Graham and Wendy's channel where they went to the 1940s weekend. I've not had chance to go through his cooking ones yet, but I will do at some point.

@@therichardsonssimpleliving I have three all together Maria and they are all Instant Brand,I have the Instant pot which is a pressure cooker with a separate air fryer lid, the Instant Vortex 5.7 ltr with the clear window and the Instant Vortex Plus VersaZone 8.7 ltr which you can use as one big one or put a divider in and use it as a double drawer, like you I don't have a big kitchen so the Instant Pot only comes out when I'm pressure cooking or if we have family visiting and I need all three air fryers to cook everything at the same time, all my cooking is done between the air fryers gas hob and microwave which is a combi oven as well but very rarely use the oven part of it,I had to buy a cover for my hob so I could use that for extra work surface and lift it off when I want to use the gas ring,I too would love one of those air fryer ovens but I can't justify it and I don't have room for it Xx
