- Hello! Welcome to Mart's Garage. I have decided to run my 33 coupe at this year's VHRA Hot Rod Races at Pendine. I have ran it before in it's current configuration, so I wanted to see what a difference a dual carb setup would make.
So Join me and Geoff, Rusty and Trev at Pendine, South West Wales. The last video covered the drive down and the first part of Saturday. I did see an improvement over my previous outing so the twin carbs appear to be doing the trick!
So watch to see what result my other runs gave and how Sunday turned out.
Result and new record summary here: www.vhra.co.uk/pendine-sands-...

Remember to check out @HubNut
The engine in the coupe is the crusty flatty. The one I featured in a video series a few years ago. Check it out the playlist if you want to see an engine that in reality should have been scrapped.
I Hope you enjoy this offering. Don't forget: Keep it real! Keep it cheap!
Thanks for joining me once again in Mart's Garage.
What a great weekend! That overhead exhaust conversion that you showed at the end. Wow!
What a great event Mart! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Congratulations on the 10 MPH speed increase sir!
Interesting to see so many old cars they race Never seen that in the states! Even the parking lot becomes a car show by it's self .
I just think how cool it would be to have so many cars you have 😩
Another fine weekend away with Mart, well done on your times too.
Hi Bernard. Great talking with you the other day. After listening to your stories I realised I just haven't lived!
@@MartsGarage That was a good evening!
What a great event, thanks for sharing.
Loved this one as well Mart. Geofcam great, and it sounds like Panther Geoff came good as head cook and driving 👌
❤ cheers for sharing mr Mart 👍
Great event Mart.. very well done with your twin carbs and achievements.
Regards Kevin (back home now)
Well done Mart! Thank you for taking us along! Take care.
Quite an eye opener to me in the Hot Rod scene .i like the innovations and obvious skill and craftmanship in building the cars.
The Wooden car is indeed wood .Forgotton the guys name but i was in contact with him in the Costin Nathan & Nathan GT plywood chassis race cars.Very clever bloke with aerodynamic ideas..
Super videos Thankyou
She sounds great, Mart! Respectable speeds!
#270 is the type of car i find really interesting, especially with the Frontenac (Fronty) Head conversion. I have a Dykes automobile instruction book from 1918 which describes methods of building your own 'fronty ford' for relaxation and pleasure...😁😁
Old cars should be driven/raced. I've got a modified 1968 MG1300 bored to 1330cc and giving a solid 100bhp. That will see some track days. Not into the show and shine mindset. Another superb video. Cheers Mart, looking forward to seeing the next one!
Thanks for the Pendine coverage Mart, and great that the twin carb conversion did good. Competative on the track, you don't spare the horses (old though they are). The breathing limitations of all sidevalve engines make it difficult to get more power; unless you supercharge it, as a couple of your viewers suggest. More power, less weight, and smaller frontal area required to get closer to Steve Read. So for next year, how about supercharging your biggest engine, and fitting it in Old Rusty??
Hi Andy. The difference in speed between Old Rusty (100mph) and the sedan with the same engine but bored further really brings home the low frontal area bit. The coupe being almost as fast as the sedan 87 against 90mph shows the benefit of a more slippery shape. Not sure of my plans for '25 but I can't see a supercharger in my future. Steve's performance in the chisel nosed T was phenomenal and he says the car has more to give. Thanks for watching old pal.
It was a brilliant weekend mart nice to see you and Jeff had a good talk with Jeff. By the way I was fastest in our class 88 mph lol but only 2 runs
Rev clock. I brought a rev clock / hours meter off eBay for mine. It’s battery powered and simply has a cord that wraps around the Ht lead, I glued a strong magnet to the back and just attach it to the dash when I need it.
87mph is very impressive Mart, but even more impressive is the speed you returned at, very reckless, especially through the pits!
Ha ha yeah, thanks Mart. Surprised I didn't get a time penalty.
Another well done from me too, I have looked at the results and from what I can see, had this been a Hillclimb / Sprint that was scored on speed ( Hillclimb and Sprint events are scored on time) , you would have won the class it seems. Do they not have an awards bit at the end, or was that not done due to the Sunday being called off ?.
Edit to add.
Ah, rather then looking at the classes only, and seeing the main page one, I see they only give awards to new Class Records, rather than the more conventional timed way of 1st in class 2nd and 3rd, New class record ( if applicable) and Fastest time of day. You have some work to then Mart !!, great event anyway.
Geez Mart, you look like Anthony Hopkins in Worlds Fastest Indian with your helmet on
Excellent, you just need rusty on the camera then it’d be a hat trick 😂
Quite surprised to see the Zetec powered Model A, did not realise engines like that are permitted, any idea what speed it ran? The coupe was clearly running well.
Hi Jacqui. I have included a couple of links in the description. That car holds the record in L4BR at 111.8 mph.
All you need to do next Mart is super charge it. When was the last time you heard of a Flatty throwing a rod? Never!
