      Cheers Chris. I'll mention a couple of things I didn't know at the time. Firstly you can release a ratchet strap one click at a time. It's better than letting it undo with a bang. I did a video on it. Secondly if your roof is sheet material it will resist the movement. I had a second go at mine and had to loosen the roof sheets to get it properly squared up. Anyway, good luck with it!

    I know that feeling about "fearing for one's mortality" when pulling those hubs! I never knew about the hole in the brake cylinders being in the wrong place until watching your videos. The last time I did the brakes on my '40 sedan was around seven years ago (well within the 10 years since you first noticed the problem). The next time I have it apart I am going to check. The quality of the repro parts (both mechanical and cosmetic) seems to be getting worse. I have given up on current production points as they just don't line up (I found someone who sold me NOS Ford points a year ago and they line up properly). I always look forward to your videos sir!

    Hey Mart: Just started watching this video but I would suspect that if it was pulling to the right, that side is the side that was "working" ??? It's been my experience that the vehicle pulls to the side that is "too tight". ;o) Worked "behind" a failed mechanic on a vehicle recently and found the same thing with EVERYTHING tightened "to death" !! It HAS to be that all modern mechanics now use battery driven drivers and wrenches instead of the old method of "hand wrenches" where you had some "feel" of when things were tight enough. ;o( The quality of products (or lack of) is simply the result of the ultra common modern trend of corporations to NOT do their own manufacturing since they can "outsource" it to foreign countries where the labor is totally abused and un-regulated not to mention the complete lack of QC !!! For sure, a very sorry state!! Despite this total lack of quality, we are advised to literally "dispose" of the older, WELL MADE devices in favor of the new "garbage" that only lasts until the warranty expires (if you get lucky) and cannot even be disassembled for possible repair. ;o( The problem is, just because you purchase a "name brand" at a higher price, that those parts are not ALSO made in the same factory !! Even buying "Delco" ignition parts, they "come from "China" now too!!

    Some great progress. Seeing how far you came in that first 6 months of ownership, you do deserve a big pat on the back, perhaps the luck on the clutch is payback for all that hard work? She sounds good and looked to drive well to boot. Having had the pleasure of replacing the gearbox on Lizzie I have started to try and double de-clutch going through the box, if just to avoid any issues in the future. Not that I have mastered it so far, your 100 was taken off the road when I was about 2 years old so all my driving has been done on syncro boxes. The box is fairly simple to take off if you do have to do so in the future, although I found there is a knack for getting it back on. From the floor level (i.e. not on a ramp) I found it was a two-man job, with one underneath maneuvering the box and a 2nd in the car on a strap, far easier than jacking the box up. Be careful swinging the back down though, I managed to almost break my jaw as I was just in the wrong position.

  • @Danjr948
    @Danjr948 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Your relay coil is likely sending a small voltage spike through the switch when it opens, shortening the life of the contacts. Google: "How to avoid spark at relay contact?" and see if something pops up that you think may help. The math to figure out the size of resistors and capacitors is really not as critical as some people make it out to be and any improvement at all is probably what you are after. Or just clean the contacts as needed.

    • @MartsGarage
      @MartsGarage 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Dan thanks for the advice. I hadn't thought of that. I would lean towards it just being a second hand switch with who knows how may cycles under it's belt. In it's stock configuration it would have carried the full load of the solenoid. It was probably 99% fuzzed up when I got it. In my case it is only carrying the load of the relay coil which must be a lot lower. I think it will last a while yet. Replacements are not too expensive but my experience is that the older stuff is built better. Thanks for watching.

    • @Danjr948
      @Danjr948 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MartsGarage Oh. I was thinking it was a NOS switch or new Chinese replacement, and that was a very short time you used it. You're 100% right that if it was originally used on the solenoid it should last forever on that small relay.

      Hello Maggie. I hope to go, but won't know until the last minute. If I do go I can't guarantee going in the 100E unfortunately. We'll see. Thanks for all your support.

    The thread cutting was a bit frustrating for you but apart from that really good set up overall .👌

    The joys of threading on a lathe, it can be immensely satisfying or endlessly enraging, depending on the alignment of the stars. I like your clever fix on the linkage problem.

    Absolutely spot on fixing things with what you have lying around is old school instead of buying ready made solutions that costs more

    We displayed our classic Ford Transit camper last month there, added bonus was free entry to the museum great displays of vehicles and some horrible BL prototype's and some great prototype's which would work today with their designs.
