- Hello! Welcome to Mart's Garage. I have decided to run my 33 coupe at this year's VHRA Hot Rod Races at Pendine. I have ran it before in it's current configuration, so I wanted to see what a difference a dual carb setup would make.
So Join me and Geoff, Rusty and Trev on the trip down to Pendine, South West Wales. This Video covers the drive down and the first part of Saturday. I show most of the cars and my first run down the beach. I do see an improvement over my previous outing so the twin carbs appear to be doing the trick! Make sure you look out for part 2!
The engine in the coupe is the crusty flatty. The one I featured in a video series a few years ago. Check it out the playlist if you want to see an engine that in reality should have been scrapped.
I Hope you enjoy this offering. Don't forget: Keep it real! Keep it cheap!
Thanks for joining me once again in Mart's Garage.
I just love that Zephyr #Six..Spent a few holidays as a passenger in my uncles example back in the 1950`s.My Dad only had a #Ford Y Type.
He did have a 100E van later and a 100e Popular in that same colour though s Jeff`s Zephyr..
I have forgotten the colour Blue though.
I agree about running an old tired engine flat out, it does get a bit trepidatious! Nice chatting with you and Jeff, glad the carbs worked well.
Yeah, Bernard, it feels like an eternity with the pedal mashed waiting for something to go bang.
@@MartsGarage At least we weren't in old FEDs sitting behind the engine astride the diff!
Really nice video, great footage.
Great video Mart, super first run, that second carb has certainly made a big difference, never raced on sand before plenty of gravel and tarmac but never sand, I guess it brings its own challenges, not least a propensity to rot a car out in seconds , given the amount of salt water you had to drive through on route to the paddock. Look forward to part 2. 👍
Good to see you on Saturday, I think you needed that extra knot in the bungee strap as you can see in the video the hood was lifting a bit on the way there... 🧐
Cheers Nick. Good to see you too.
Great video! Looks like a lot of fun. I always enjoy seeing the countryside
Wonderful drive down! Some very beautiful countryside! The 33 pulled good all the way through. Winter job take the fenders off to get the salt out! Take care
Thanks for posting Mart, I think it’s as much about the characters driving these great old cars as it is about the cars themselves, coupe looks good, cheers
Crusty Flatty? CRUSTY NO MORE! OUTSTANDING SIR! I look forward to the next video!
Thanks again mart for the condenser for the bellytank 👍
You're welcome, Steve. I managed to find another one for someone else later on!
Hey, it was great to finally meet you Saturday morning, also thank you so much for the quick lift you gave me into the beach, it was greatly apreciated!

Well it didn’t disappoint Mart👌great work from the trevcam. Second carb worked well.
Cheers Jab. Glad you came back to watch.
Crusty flatty ran well. Good vid, enjoyed seeing the countryside.
Supercharger next time and wider tyres, I would drive that everywhere I could, the sound of the engine is delicious.
Enjoyed it all. Really gave a great idea what it is all about . The scenic drive down was a bit of an eye opener for me ( living in Oz).Thanks
Coupe looked well& done well driving all that way and turning out a good speed Carb job a success looking forward to pt2 etc. Loved that Pontiac Salloon Stunning Car .👍
Looked good , Didn't attend in person but always look at the timings on the VHRA site cheers Mart 👍
Good fun day Mart. The coupe went well. Some interesting vehicles there. Are there many different classes ? Cheers Rob
Mart, if you get 5mph more with an extra carb, how about adding 2 more😊.
Has anyone ever made a list of how many of these old bangers have a BF number plate? I bet it's quite a list
Hi Simon. Yeah. The DVLA.
@@MartsGarage I meant someone more important - like the VHRA
looks like fun i hope you give that old girl a good pressure wash to get all the sand and salt water off her
