So many unique parts working together to complete something beautiful....... This is also a lesson for life. When we work together, sharing our unique gifts, the world will become a beautiful place.
This is truly sublime - as with your West End Girls cover, it's a great example of that magic, sizzling, soaring 80s production sound that's created when relatively simple individual sounds from those classic synths and samplers are blended together with high quality rev and delay and just a hint of compression across it all. A far cry from the "compressors and reverbs on every channel" DAW frenzy of today, and a timely reminder of the delicious power of simplicity and quality. Also a painful reminder that I sold my beloved JX10 20 years ago on a whim because I never got over its poor MIDI IN timing... ludicrous as I only used it for those luscious pads anyway... that soft pad here is delightful. Oh, and that's one gorgeous pimped up Pro-One! Beautiful job, thanks for posting.
Thanks for your thoughtful and considered comment David. It made putting the video together (which is not my forte) worthwhile! I enjoy doing these covers from time to time and trying to limit myself to the constraints of the period i.e. 24 or less main tracks, using the DAW more as a tape machine and traditional mixer and try to use my old hardware FX as much as possible. Re. the JX, it's one of my favourite pieces and I really don't understand the negative views it generates on some well known synth sites. Yes, I'd love it to have snapper envelopes but I love the way the core sound sits in a mix and now that I've got the PWM mod and new OS / Flash memory installed, it really is a formidable poly. I've had mine for 25 years, during which a lot of others have come and gone and it has featured in some way on most things I've done. The Pro-One is actually my brothers! He fabricated the wooden case for it himself and used the keyboard and wheels panel from a broken Ensoniq ESQ-1 to replace the no-so-good j-wire keyboard. It does look the part and works so much better than before.
EstuaryMists Pleasure - your efforts are definitely appreciated, these videos are really important curated gems of that era of production technology... and will hopefully inform and inspire a whole new generation of synth heads to love and explore the kit and techniques that we take for granted. Really impressive that it's a DIY refit of the Pro-One - he's done a cracking job on it. Re the JX, I think it just always suffered from a frustrating lack of immediacy compared to the JP-8 caused by removing all the dedicated controls and sliders and replacing them with the keypad and Alpha dial. If only the PG800 had been shipped as standard in the box I suspect the 10 could have surpassed its predecessor and been heralded as one of the all-time greats... but sadly most of its power went undiscovered for all but the most curious and patient of noodlers.
Watching this being put together one element at a time was kind of like watching Bing Crosby putting together medieval instruments to make a modern piece of music in the movie A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (later emulated in the movie The Black Knight). Excellent!
Thanks Ryan, I appreciate your comment. I'm busy with a few projects (non-cover versions) over the coming period but hope to have time to post a couple of new covers here in early 2020.
I ❤this soooooooo much!!!!!!🎉 Happy 40th anniversary NES 🐉 Falcor, Bastian, rock 🪨 biter, childlike empress 🧝🏻♀️ and none other then Atreus the legend himself
Thanks. I love that, that's amazing. Really an experience to hear the individual sounds, see the equipment, and hear the final mixed song without vocals. It's really a nice song and this cover seems to be faithful to the real deal.
Thank you for still uploading videos! I was commenting on the other video (from 3 years ago) and see you’re still recently active! Would love to see more! Great video!
@@EstuaryMists I still have it. I hauled it up to Seattle for a meetup earlier this year. I've been too busy with non-music stuff to do much more. If you're ever in Portlandia, let me know! I replaced the PSU on my EII with a Meanwell TC-60, I think. They don't make that model of PSU, but they have something similar. I put a HxC in my EII, which works perfectly as the Meanwell didn't have the right voltage to run a floppy. So no floppy, but it runs great with the HxC. I got one of the first 10 of JB Emond's HxC kits for the Fairlight. Are you still running stock on your SIII? Are you on the Fairlight facebooks group?
Amazing, Congrats, very well done! Stunning equipment and sound! Similar in time i did a remix for Giorgio on the same song. I´m also still working with vintage studio equipment. My reverb is a Lexicon 300 and my Fairlight III Keyboard i used for Midi input signals. The Bass is from a Waldorf Pulse, Pads Roland JD990 and the sequence from a Juno 60. Vocals original "Limahl". You can find my Remix on TH-cam search "Marko Bussian".

@@Alex-bc7qi Quite the opposite. His stuff is sublime. Only said that because the original track had loads and loads of JP-8 on it, which is what Moroder used extensively at this time ('82-'85 roughly)
Quite simply - This is the best version of the song that I’ve ever heard (across both official and unofficial). Pure heaven.
Me too!
yes it is
Put your headphones and close your eyes, it sounds magical. Amazing!!
