- Instrumental, note-by-note re-creation of the PSB extended version of this classic track. This was done using a Fairlight Series III and Emulator II, as was used on the original. All sounds are sourced from the instruments, with the exception of the "you" sound that features at various points throught the song, the 'crack' sound at the very beginning and the "synth rise" sound that is used at the beginning of the song and again in the middle-8. Hope you enjoy!!
I met Neil a few years ago, and he told me the story behind why they featured strings and horns heavily in their version of "Always On My Mind" - Chris's first instrument was trumpet and Neil's was the cello. He gave me a signed CD of their "PopArt" album with a third disc "Mix". :)
I’m sure Chris’s first instrument was a Trombone…🤔
@@davidgainsford6748 it is. It was a brass instrument in any case.
Dec2022... still unbelieveable!!! Probably the most accurate PSB covers to be found on the interwebs
Good question; it’s a long time ago now! From memory, I think I used a couple of instances of Brass01.vc through my Eventide H3500. I don’t know what was used on the record, but this sounds similar.
23 people on Earth gave this a thumbs down.... Mindboggling. As a musician and producer of the highest nerditude, I can safely say this is near flawless. Brilliant job
Thanks Paul. I always been irritated by the slight loss of bass that happened when I loaded it up to TH-cam. No idea what caused that but I guess it does give this mix a slightly wider feel!
@@EstuaryMists Good evening, I hope this message finds you well. Apologies for such an unsolicited correspondence, I was hoping to message you via email to ask you a very technical, specific and unique question about your version of It Couldn’t Happen Here, specifically regarding some Fairlight samples/patches I’m having trouble identifying. If you have the time, and don’t mind, maybe you could message me via email so I can send you a more detailed explanation about what I’m trying to do. My email is paul.nmanning@btinternet.com. Thanks
I'm doing a cover show here in Chicago in a month and your version inspired me to remake this PSB masterpiece. All i can say is wow!! Just an absolutely beautiful recreation of this song. Just beautiful!!!
I'm speechless... How on earth did you do this? PSB HAS to be jealous on this one. Imo it has a better sound than the original. It sounds so 80's it hurts. I'm so happy, and feel very fortunate, that I grew up in that era and can recall the feelings of my childhood. This piece reminds me of the glory days when life was easy, when music had a heart and a soul. When mainstream actually was full of quality! Thank you EstuaryMists :) You have a gift which I can only dream of.
This is a great remake but not sure about psb being jealous... This is a remake of PSB's 12" extended dance remix .i grew up PSB's remixes in the 80s... They were the only band whose remixes sounded better than the originals
It's probably the PSB's Fairlight that was on sale a few years ago, with all the original samples ;-)
@@ncheriyan Pet Shop Boys even made a song about how jealous they became. ;-)
@@silverseraph8233 well no. PSB used mainly factory samples for the drums
AMAZING... THE PRODUCER.
Seven years later...I discover your awesome work. Better late than never. Great job!
This is superb both technically and artistically... Bravo!
This is so badss!! What a complete rendition of a great tune!
Im glad to live in the same planet as people like you. Awesome work man!
I was born in 2001 but this song always drives me to times I never lived in and it feels amazing
Thanks to all for your kind comments. I did it as one of those spur of the moment things but may be tempted to do a couple of other covers now !!
@JohnH108, I did use Page R(S) for some of the drums but not for the main song, as Page RS is difficult to use polyphonically.
This oozes the love for the original.
All I can say is wow!
Damn... That is sooo cool... You have nailed it bro... Im a fan of PSB from the age of 10. I am Also a keyboardist. Chris lowe was my role model when it comes to synth music programmers... This is amazing... Kudos!!!
Hi, the voices at 1:27 are factory Emu II - disk 12 'Voices'. These were used on a ton of records, including some by New Order, OMD, Cutting Crew and quite a few PSB tracks including West End Girls, Kings Cross, Domino Dancing, This must be the place etc. The orch hits are Emu II - factory disk 62 Orchestra Hits, Patch 04 'Beet It'. The background choir is Fairlight III, again a factory patch - Choir03.vc. This was one of the sound sets on the 'JJ Jeczalik Art of Sampling' CD. Hope that helps.
The voices disk is the only working one i got for my EII. You can hear them in some of my tracks such as Voyager, Love at first Sight and Leaving
You did a great job, and I don't say that lightly.
Alguien a la fecha hace eso con los sientes antiguos ...es genial!
This is a Miracle
WOW Just wow, Awesome cover there, sounds spot on. Just can't beat the sound of a good old Fairlight C.M.I.!
Thanks. I was pleased with how it ended up. Agree, there's something about the sounds of these old machines that just feel right and makes it easy to blend it all together.
Oh my god. This is fucking good !! It´s sooooooooo close to the original. Great work !!
Thanks. Appreciate the comment.
Outstanding production! This is truly a cover version which fully grasps the musical essence of the original and even outperforms the original.
So good quality sound....really great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Babyblue, the vast majority of the sounds used are standard library sounds from the Fairlight III and Emulator II.
From memory (and referencing a post below), the Fairlight was used for all the drums and percussion, the main brass riff and French horns, the string pad, the bass, the cellos, the choir on the bridge
The Emulator was used for the Orchestral hits, the string runs at the end of the chorus and bridge (the EII Marcato strings), the vox sound, and the tanks at the beginning.
This is utterly superb work !!! Well done !!
Maestro...excellent!
I love that TH-cam have given this a copyright notice! Testimony to your excellent reproduction. Personally I'd like a breakdown of all the tracks. It was this specific song that got me into sequencing in the first place.
This is amazing! I have been a fan since West End Girls first became a hit in the 1980s. You have true talent!
doesn't lack vocals at all, a real masterpiece.
Espectacular! .... Muchas gracias.
absolutely fantastic
Dark Manger Records Indeed it is! :-)
amazing
Thanks Victor. Glad you enjoyed it.
Very nice to hear the Fairlight playing...
Had a CMI IIx once. :)
Absolutely stunning!!
Absolutely perfect!
Nicely done.I like it.
Wow, this is amazing.
I never thought it'd be possible to recreate a song like this using the original samples!
Magical ✨️🎧✨️
Awesome Sound
Thanks.
This is awesome!
Genial un ritmo muy diferente el 8nstrumental 👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️
2021 and still listening and enjoying!
same
The recreation is so good that it got a copyright claim lol
This is just awesome, great job!
Stupendous! You are the master of PSB cover versions by a mile.
WOW. Well I certainly appreciate your hard work. Having produced PSB covers myself in the past it is nearly impossible to get the original sounds, yet here you have painstakingly gone through those disks to find the exact sound.
Damn! Speechless!!!
WOW SUPER MIX VERSION
I love you so much PetShopBoys ❤️🖤💙💛💜💚
Hi on the main brass riff - is it just brass or is it layered with other sounds ? Superb cover by the way.
sweet you nailed it, thanks
Congrats!! very hard work. You has make an incredible sound like the original song. Claps! Claps! Claps!
Spot on
makes me cry....in a good way!
Very Nice! I love it!
Love it!!!!
Great Job !!!!!!!
I would love to hear your cover of the Eight Wonder version of I'm not scared!
That's a great song, great sound and Kensit... ..one of those sparse moments I wish I were Mel Gibson.
oh yeah great! love the 80s, my decade, my music
That's amazing, really amazing well done!
Thanks!
Amazing (Kudos from Sri Lanka!)
Fantastic cover, sounds incredible!
Amazing!
Great.....lovely creation!
awesome!!!! amazing, just the best...
AWESOME!!! What drum kit on THE fairlight did you use? For the cowbells
Hi Dominik, it's a mixture of drums from the standard library. The cowbells are the standard Series III cowbells, also used by PSB on Heart and the Liza Minelli track Losing My Mind.
great recreation!
are there multiple layers to the main synth part?
I have the Emulator factory soundbanks - tried disk 62 - Orchestral Hits Sample 4 (and all the others) and it still doesn't sound anything like this.
Do you professionally work in the music business EM? To get your cover versions THAT accurate it just makes sense to me..Amazing.
Stupenda!
Apart from the signature chorus stabs (which are a bit less dynamic than the original), its as close to perfection as I think anyone is likely to get.
I'm not new to making 80s covers myself, and I know this will have taken a lot of work.
I'm so impressed and really enjoyed it. Well done and thanks for sharing your craft.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
bloddy fantastic.
Unbelievably good. Hope the record company don't hear this or they'll think it's theirs.
Amazing. We need more of these kinds of demos.
I keep listening to this, I’ve got both cmi and Emulator vst and factory banks... what sound is the main brass (?) sound (or is it strings).
Maybe I didn't treat you
quite as good as I should
Maybe I didn't love you
quite as often as I could
Little things I should have said and done
I never took the time
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
Maybe I didn't hold you
all those lonely, lonely times
and I guess I never told you
I'm so happy that you're mine
If I made you feel second-best
I'm so sorry I was blind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
Give me one more chance to keep you satisfied
satisfied
Little things I should have said and done
I never took the time
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
Give me one more chance to keep you satisfied
satisfied
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

I saw at ebay someone selling original PSB fairlight and emu ii disks. Is this the case?
Amazingly good sounding. Bravo.
The BEST!
Sounds great!!! I too own the original PSB sounds for this song. Great to hear them all in a very cool cover
Excellent! loved it
Great Job Friend!!! Congratulations!!!
this is great, i very like you track, you can give this track in wav ?? or multitrack ?? thanks
Excellent cover!!
Great. Is it available for download? Google Play/Itunes. Would love to use it in my act. Fab re cre. Good job!
I love it
Fantastic recreation!! I have a few questions about the sounds if you don't mind. I've always wondered what is the vox sound at 1:27 as I've heard it in other songs. Is it a Emulator or Fairlight sound and what is it called? And the hit sounds at 3:53-3:55 and the choir in the background at 3:57 what are those? Can you buy those as sample libraries somewhere? I have some samples from Emulator II but I don't have those sounds. If you could help by answering I would be most grateful!
*Mind Blown*
This is amazing! Would you please tell me which drum machine (or sampler) did you use to make the drum track?
Hi, Thanks. All the drums and percussion are from the Fairlight III.
Are all these sounds available for synths and samplers? I'd love to have a go at trying to create this.
If you have access to the Fairlight III and Emu II libraries, then yes. I’ve seen the EII libraries available, not sure about the FIII
You're a mad genius
Awesome!
awesome
This is really lovely. Thank you, TH-cam!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️♥️
For the main melody, what is the voice setting?
I come back this video more than I should
This is very good, can I ask where you sourced the other non fair lights sounds eg 'who' etc. Thanks, and stay safe
From the 12". They appear on their own at the start of that mix. The three sounds are the "you" sound, the riser and the 'crack' sounds at the very start of the track. The rest of the sounds are from the FIII and EII.
Very well done!
Wow. Just. Wow...
Wow!
How many polyphonic voices used this track at the same time?
Perfect! you´re a genius !!!
