  • Sharing some interesting findings after testing about 40 pairs of sunglasses and a few pairs of regular glasses. See how much UV protection seemingly similar sunglasses can differ. And also see how regular glasses may or may not block UV. Be more aware of what you’re purchasing and know wearers of glasses can be protected from UV as well as or better than some sunglasses.

    I work with blind people for quite some time now. I wish more people will view yr video and safe their eyesight. Some buy tot glasses just to make their children look cute without realising the dangers that they expose to their children's eyes

      My Oakley light up too . And 10 more my mates light up too, only three are not. I bring my Holbrook and test using Kodak uv tester at optical shop all my sunglass block uv 400. But some block hev better than others. I think the light will glow because hev rays ( more than 400 nano meter)
      After watch this video I feel stress because all my glass fail except one which is yellow tinted sunglass.

    Hi, anti-radiation glasses (used when using computers) seem to block UV also- is this true? It does not have to be UV400?

    • @bencwang
      @bencwang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it depends, you can't tell by looking at it so best to test it. Different manufacturers can use different materials to make the lens. But indoor at the computer you aren't really getting UV. It's more a problem when you go outside.

    • @SevenDeMagnus
      @SevenDeMagnus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bencwang Hi. I use the radiation computer glasses when I use the UV glue (not too worried about screen blue light coz' my Mac and phone are set to Night Shift, set at sunset). It's hard to find (cost-effectively) one, I had to go to many malls, bring the UV flashlight and shine it on what the salelady said are racks of anti-radiation glasses (they were all looking coz' they weren't used to seeing blue light being shone at glasses). I prepared a paper in my wallet w/ highlighter mark on it to see if it'll light up (one could use the money's security in the wallet). I probably spent more than an hour but thankfully I found one. I first ordered online, what was described as UV400 but it had almost zero UV protection like my safety glasses (I didn't refund, just gave it as a Christmas gift).
      It took months looking for something I could use with UV glue:-) seek and you shall find as they say. I hope it's really protecting me (through it I shone it at a passport, money and driver's license, none of the security images came out).
      But I guess the fastest but a bit expensive way is to go to a reputable glasses store w/ brand name and a UV tester, balancing the style and cost a UV protection is a bit overwhelming coz' of the choices.

    • @bencwang
      @bencwang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s possible to find other UV led light sources around the 365nm range. 395nm ones may work ok but don’t go into the deeper uva range. It’s good to have both to see if at least at those two test points both are blocked well. A standard white or colored LED won’t work.
