What I learned in the beginning was somewhat grounded in the Tiger.
I used to practice my strikes on large trees. Because of the disease which disables me, Cushing's Disease, I'm too big and heavy to successfully complete the kick and cartwheels, or I would submit a video for the fun of it. Oh, thanks for the characters for form. I've gone back to studying Mandarin, and I've added Cantonese to my study as well.

I learned this form 15 years ago. It's a Shaolin Shantung Black Tiger form for those asking. It was handed down by Sin Kwan The`. It's a 1st degree black belt level form.
Ah yes, this is an abbreviated version of the third Shantung Black Tiger, form Hei Hu Huan Sen "Black Tiger Flips The Body" with some pieces missing this is about I'd say a third of the actual form with a small chunk missing in the middle and the ending missing. I was testing over this as part of a pretest from 5th to 6th black and I was on a later portion where you are laying on the ground clawing up just as Melanie was in the middle of her cart wheels and had to swat her slightly to the side as she was going to land on me LOL ah good times

Personally I'm looking forward to learning Taekwando and Tiger style. Shudokun is just a bit too "firm" for me, I need something more "light footed"

This is the Tiger Style Kata I learned when being instructed on Tiger Style as my secondary one. My primary is Prayer Mantis but my son chose Tiger, so your videos and lessons are helping tremendously. I had a membership for a few months but we were both not ready to commit, yet. Now we are and I will will subscribe again. Thank you for everything you do! Oh, can you let me know what online stores and/or brands for clothing and training weapons do you trust and suggest?
Hey Jake, thanks for your videos they're great!! I'm a black belt martial-arts student in Karate and I had the goal the become one of the best in the whole world (even if it sounds silly), but at the moment I feel a bit depressed. I feel like I always hurt people close to me and now I don't know if I want to continue learning how to hurt people (I know martial arts is not about learning how to beat up everyone but you learn how to fight). Do you have any advice?

i have a very obscure 1970s Art of Chinese Tiger Boxing book and lo and behold the movements match everything the instructor does here.. Except for the cartwheels.

To all those who bag on Jake Mace. He knows his stuff & is in great shape. Just because he is not an MMA fighter, or coach does not mean he is incompetent.
He is in great shape. But he knows nothing about martial arts - just like his fake teacher - Sin Kwang The. They are both phonies who had to admit it in a court of law when one sued the other. None of the people challenging his authenticity are "mma" fighters. We trained in REAL martial arts. He is a fraud.

Where do you live? Where did you study, from who, from what age? I've always found the Chinese martial arts so beautiful to watch. Like dance. From a practical street fight scenario do you feel it is superior to other styles? Krav maga, systema, etc. Assuming the skill of the individuals are equal in their specific practice. Thank you.

+Dave Preston I was taught that it didn't come from a certain family but was rather a style called Black Tiger and was created at the Henan Shaolin Temple hundreds of years ago! This is a short sequence from the 3rd form in the series called "Black Tiger Flips the Body"

Yeah. It's called bullshit.
It is a shortened version of Hei Hu Huan Sen "Black Tiger Flips the Body" a Shantung Black Tiger Form from Shaolin Kung Fu The actual form is about a little bit longer than Twice as long as this with some interesting groundwork and cross step cross strikes towards the end.
In Hung Gar Style of Kungfu, its
Dragon,Snake, Tiger, Leopard, Crane. This is the five animals of Hung Gar Kuen.
What Jake is doing is not no style of Tiger style. Stop being lazy and do some research on Tiger style kungfu. Check out Hung Gar in A.C.

This is not ANY Tiger system i know of. You can tell its fake,
No salute in the beginning or at the end. Fists at the sides of the chest and not at the waist. Only Wing Chun style of kungfu does this.
And the sound effects, what system in the world teach sound effects.
His Kungfu is non-existent, he moves like a spoiled brat.

If you are speaking of traditionally practiced forms, then you have a point. But forms come from within and one can create forms naturally. I have seen many Jake Mace videos. Some make me think he knows what he is doing... some not so much. People are continually mocking him and saying that he won't back up his shit when challenged. I never met the man, so I choose to say nothing.
