Where is this slice of windsurfing paradise? 😮 Any Polar gps watch compatibility possible in future with Waterspeed app? Awesome videos! I think I could watch you gybe all day long, so smooth!

What you need is to dig up some old school race gear. So many old timers on Facebook insisting 90s era boards are faster cos they are narrower. This myth needs putting to bed.
Hi Ben, great video! makes me jealous.... just a thought on PWA slalom X . Fantastic drone footage, amazing commentary, I loved the racing ... but no sound?, imagine formula 1 with no sound of the cars, or a film with no sound. Is there a way of getting some sound into the racing? Your board at speed sounds great! just a thought
Hi, Ben, The Mauritian team has responded to your challenge. Fabrice LECLEZIO, Christopher TYACK, Regis LESIEUR positions 2, 7 and 3. We don't have a speed spot, but we're passionate about speed and the sailing conditions are exceptional. Tomorrow is our last windy day until the 9th, and we'll be trying to get back ahead with our slalom gear!!!! Thanks for your enthusiasm and this great challenge. Come and join us! any time, you'll be warmly welcomed. Ask Antoine what he thought of his stay here earlier this year.
Yes boys! 💪💪... it got pretty windy today for an hour!! ... and Tuesday here looks proper windy... so looking forward to you boys throwing down the target! Good luck tomorrow! The problem here is it's a very short run... so I'm bouncing off the rocks when I push the run late!! haha ...and yes.. Mauritius is on my bucket list! So cheers.. one day!
I have mixed feeling about the (over)use of metrics in recreational sport. Exactly because it delivers 'hard' data in an ocean of subjective impressions, it is quite tempting to pay a lot of attention to them, to the point that it is the measured speed/distance/hard rate / whatever that determines whether you feel you are having a good session. It is a game of ever smaller returns, because we tend to compare todays results to the 'best ever' values of previous sessions or to values of other people. I went down that rabbit hole in cycling when I was young, contantly monitoring speed, distance, heart rate, cadence etc. This lead me to ignoring the most important metric: "feel". In the end, unless you are a (semi)professional competitor, 'feel'is the omly metric that matters. I would measure speed very sparingly, like a few times a year only. Or at least be conscious of the relative (un)importance of the measured data and the effect it has on your mood.
What app are you using on your Garmin Fenix (is it the 6?) to track sessions @ben? It doesn’t seem to come with a default Garmin windsurf app even though it has pickleball whatever the flip that is.
I’m using the windsurfing application by vivsurfer, I feel a bit robbed that there’s no Garmin windsurfing app when they have literally done everything else like 5 different types of running or cycling and project eps or pickleball or whatever.
Hi Ben, i have a question about stance... what i see you do and not only in this video, is you turn in your front foot with your toes up. I have seen it with other good riders.. i am just wondering why you guys do that? It appears to me that it would result in max pressure on the back foot. Or do you still pressure but just help pressuring the rails with your front foot. Or maybe i am seeying wrong 🙂, but to me it is very apperent at around 12:43, almost like you turn your hip into it.
Ben. A great idea, I like the varied nature of the challenges, ie not just 5 sec top speed (which I'll never get close to). My only issue is my GPS watch, I'm using a Coros which is good (runs 10 minutes slow weirdly!) and the fact that the waterspeed app links to Apple and Garmin through Garmin connect from what I can tell. I've asked the waterspeed people about Coros compatibility and they say "soon". So 2 questions. 1. Do you know when "soon" might be? 2. What is your advice on Garmin/Apple Watches for this application? Stuart
Nice video again Ben! I am still trying to get to 60km/h! Have only managed to get 58 a few times.. But there is also good news: I got my partner addicted to windsurfing this summer!
"I got my partner addicted to windsurfing this summer!' Nice.. Now you get more sessions!! ' I am still trying to get to 60km/h! Have only managed to get 58 a few times'. A very flat location makes a huge difference... and the right angle. Then a good bit of downhaul and a good fin with a quick board! :)
I have a Garmin Forerunner 965 but I miss the waterspeed app for this… There is just a windsurfing app and I will try it. Most windsurfers are using the Corros or the Apple Watch Ultra.
Hi Ben, with regards to the fins and the just add a bit. You can be more specific a little like fanatic do and half the board width to get your high wind size fin then add 2cm to get your medium wind for the board and add another 2cm for your light wind fon size. I do this all the time with my starboard Isonics and it works a treat when it comes to racing. Just food for thought and not completely official 🤙
I'll be honest it's not a conscious thing.. but I went out yesterday and thought about what you asked. I yes I do a little bit.. weight through the boom and mast foot... and switch to the front foot slightly
I have a VMax 6.0, my record is 16.5kts on Magic Ride 129l 😂 Maybe I should start using the footstraps? On choppy Baltic sea I have not much progress here... Even on my Windsurfer LT I had almost same speed.
Oh Yeah .... Great idea ... Whent on this beach this summer its a nice piece of paradise Vingt Sang ;)

Not easy to do..
I think they will just be yelling and swearing the whole time anyway. Would be cool though.

It’s the 7 and has a windsurf app on it!
I’m using a Fenix 6X and use the Sail Racer Lite app, which gives me all the data I need.
On the fenix 5 plus I use the boating activity, which is in knots (even if strava then thinks I’ve been rowing….)
I’m using the windsurfing application by vivsurfer, I feel a bit robbed that there’s no Garmin windsurfing app when they have literally done everything else like 5 different types of running or cycling and project eps or pickleball or whatever.
@@GrahamSnowdon the Waterspeed app just syncs with the Garmin connect app.

Saw you there yesterday, me trying to wingfoil in 25+ knts gusts. Impressive speed!
Great stuff Ben - try putting the camera lower on the mast. It gives you less of a fish-eye effect 😁
