    im I the only one who finds it so odd how every reviewer is surprised there is no tailgate dampening? They're like: "Ford seriously expects us to lower the tailgate with our OWN ARMS??? WTF!?!"

    • @joshe2178
      @joshe2178 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Probably because Ford is last to the midsize pickup game now and they aren't even adding standard features that every other midsize truck has.

      Agree, it's like we can't use our arms anymore to do anything, it's like they all say there isn't much room in the back seats if you'r 6ft, FFS it's a mid sized truck it's smaller then the bigger trucks, if you want more room in the back buy a F150 and move on.

      A dampened tail gate is ok for the few times you have your hands full and can just get you fingers to release the gate but I've lived without it this long so I don't care if it ever gets it. Still, there are a few things missing from this truck but the price isn't lower.

    I was really looking forward to the Rangers return, but the prices are insane compared to the F150, and with a 2.7L 10 speed the F150 is virtually identical MPG! I think maybe 3-4 years from now these Rangers will be a good deal for 50-60% off

      Don't despair, this is year 1 of the Rangers reintroduction. I expect a full refresh coming out shortly when the Bronco becomes available. Manual transmission and more engine options likely.

  • @nsatoday
    @nsatoday 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    They’ve been building these for many years overseas. It was sad to see no manual transmission, no diesel, and an increased price tag compared to the international model. Disappointed in the extreme.

    Theyve been selling this thing in some form or fashion across the globe for over a decade and they finally bring it over all tarted up for a huge premium just for the American market. These kinds of tactics squander what Ford could have made with this vehicle in America. If this is approaching the cost of a new RAM, I agree - it would be silly to choose this.

    Automakers are becoming too greedy with pricing these days ....it’s really gonna bite them in the ass when people are buying less cars and they’re left wondering what happened

      You'd think. But a 2017 Focus sold at a starting price around $17K but the Escape, which it shares a platform with, started around $24K. But the Focus got discontinued because of slow sales. People are running in to dealers screaming TAKE MY MONEY for truck/SUVs. Sedans, not so much.

      But I can finance it over 11 years!

    • @orion3706
      @orion3706 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it used to be 60 months was the standard payment plan. I've seen more ads from dealers for 72 month financing. My grandma wouldn't do anything past 48 months. People will finance for as long as they have to to get what tthey want. Auto companies know this, which is why they offer 0% financing. People think they're getting a good deal, not realizing it's the payments themselves that keep them broke.

    • @gpaje
      @gpaje 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No one in the World makes a compact truck (that isn't a Kei truck, car based UTE or city utility truck) and since almost all US mid-sized trucks are based on international designs, we are stuck with the mid-sized.

    • @rcoveyduc

      @nodak81 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ford is bringing the Courier to the USA in the next few years. It will be a true compact pickup. It won't be a "truck" as it will be based on the Focus but I don't care, really interested in seeing what it will be like. I imagine it will be like a Transit Connect but with a bed instead of a van body.

      The 'testers' tend to sample the higher end models. I just checked prices on these at the dealers... an XL or STX ext cab w 6' box and 4wd is listed well under $30k. Ok, you don't get the cabin toys and terrain control system... but these days a 4wd pickup with decent power and a 6' box for under $30k isn't bad. Don't forget these will get you close to 30mpg if you drive them right as well... it's a long way from a '94 F150 302 shortbox...

      "the face is like that of a car. It also leans forward like some car"
      I think I know the reason for that.
      This generation of Ranger had its R&D carried out in Australia. In Australia, vehicles like the Ranger and Colorado are NOT considered to be trucks. When Australians hear the word "truck," they think of Kenworth: a whole different animal! Instead, they call the Ranger a "ute," and they consider it to be just another category of a car.
      ...and THAT'S why the new Ranger has a face like a car. Because to the Aussies who developed the thing, that's exactly what it is.

    Ford really seems to have thrown in the towel with this truck. It’s better performing than the Tacoma on road, but the styling is just so bland... like a 10 year old Ford Fusion. Ford doesn’t really have iconic styling to rehash previous designs like Jeep does with the Gladiator. Hopefully they don’t screw up the looks of the new Bronco. If it doesn’t have round headlights and the flared ridges at the side of the hood like the 66-77 Bronco, it will be another bust.

  • @JsGarage

    Mid size truck market is such a compromise and doesn’t really represent the best value. You really have to want a small struck and better fuel economy to get into this market happily. With incentives often found on half tons these mid sizers are a hard buy considering the crammed cabin and overall lacking feature set when compared to full size half tons. It’s not hard to get a very well equipped F150 for the crew cab 4x4 Ranger price. You get a whole lot more vehicle too. This isn’t just about the Ranger. None of the mid size trucks are anything special. They are all plain, mostly have underwhelming powertrains and lack space. It’s not even so much the lack of space as it is the under utilization of space available. When you look at the mid size market in general you can see that the R&D budget isn’t very high as there isn’t much special in that category. At least the Ranger has a strong engine and 10 speed trans. Drove a new Tacoma not long ago and almost fell asleep under hard acceleration. It felt gultless until it hit like 4K RPM then it make more noise and started moving a bit quicker but it certainly wasn’t exciting. Sure the truck will likely live a long boring life but I like to have some excitement in my daily vehicle here and there.

    The Frontier is still being sold, you know. It kind of pisses me off that so many reviewers act like it doesn't exist. Sure, it's an old platform and it's missing some of the refinement and features of the newer trucks, but it's still a reliable, capable, durable little truck. A lot of buyers seem to agree because Nissan sold 85,000 of them last year, which is a lot for such an old design. I test drove the Colorado and Tacoma last year and hated them both, so I purchased a Frontier Pro4x crew cab manual (my 2nd Frontier) for $10k less than the Ranger in this video.

      Can I ask why that is a surprise? There are basically the same number of parts in a mid sized truck, it takes as many man hours to build and costs the same for R&D on every one of the parts. Sure, there's less "metal" in it. But based on the relative weights of midsized vs full sized pickups, I bet it's not as much less as most people think.
      The only significant benefits to midsized or small pickups are ease of handling/parking and a small improvement in fuel economy. Those may seem like meaningless issues to many rural truck owners, but if you live in a larger centre and actually need a truck for work, you'll quickly find there aren't very many places to park a crew cab long box 2500...

The touch screen Sync 3 system is extremely responsive and easy to use, so I also strongly disagree with no “real” buttons being a negative. Needs to be smaller and offer a naturally aspirated 4cyl and 6cyl with manual trans. There are no trucks like this anymore. I sold my 96 s10 last year because it wasn't reliable anymore. I would gladly buy another small pickup. I may even have one as a side vehicle. But they don't exist. Why not fill a void in the market?

      I have to test drive one - but $40,000 for a bare-bones cloth and plastic interior seems pretty steep. If it had a V6 option and some other upgrades, I'd be more interested. But I think Ford is afraid that if they make the Ranger too nice, it will take away from sales of the F-150.

    • @zzanatos2001
      @zzanatos2001 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @BKD Vickers The interior in the Ranger Lariat is pretty spartan: Cloth seats with manual adjustment and lots of hard plastic. I'm rooting for the Ranger, but I would never buy the first model year. Hopefully, it will get more options and better quality materials if it sells well. I think Ford is making a huge mistake by not offering the Ranger Raptor in the US.
      When it comes to fuel economy and reliability, I think the new Rav4 Hybrid is going to be the best in the industry - and Toyota might use the same power train in the next gen Tacoma (which would make it even more awesome than it already is).

      Leaf spring rear suspension is used by most modern trucks, both mid-sized and full-size. Even the RAM, which uses coil overs only does so for their lightest applications. All their heavy duty stuff uses leaf springs. Germans like Mercedes Sprinters and X-Class and VW Amarok Pickup also use leaf springs. The Japanese, including the best selling Tacoma also uses Leaf Springs. They use them because they are the best use for this application.

      @@devinbender8428 well the taco got a pretty major re design in 2015 and it did not go over that well with allot of fans with the 3.5/6 transmission. The Ranger sort of looks like the 2012 but the engine/transmission are the most modern of the bunch. I owned a 2014 XLT Ranger in Fiji with the 3.2 diesel that looks similar in the interior but this is still allot different on the dash. Doors/seats etc look pretty close. The electronics, nav, display controls are all new from the one I had. It may be a bit dated looking but its probably the most capable in its class. Should give Toyota some pause. This guy complains about the back seat. He should sit in the back of a taco. Now that is cramped. But the taco has the seat that folds flat which would be better for my use and my dogs. I think the dash is more functional then the taco but I still like the look of the toyota more in and outside. I'm in the market and really divided on what to buy. I've owned a Ranger but am leaning towards Toyota which is against my better judgement.
