I always find Deep Purple live videos amusing. It makes it seem like it's the volume you'd hear in a club. They have a reputation as one of the loudest bands ever. I remember when I was a very little kid, and my parents remember and bring it up from time to time as well, my parents went to see Deep Purple and couldn't hear anything for 3 days. I remember because I thought they were ignoring me but they legit couldn't hear me after going to that concert.
I'm glad I re discovered your channel. This is one of my favourite purple songs. Ian gillan is still an amazing singer. I love your scientific yet soulful explanations. (Also you have a great voice to listen to "wink"). I've been watching your videos and have enjoyed all I've seen so far. Thank you.
Good day! I so enjoy ur analysis. Thank u UK for Deep Purple, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, LED Zeppelin, Queen, and so so many more, like Herman’s Hermits!
Him singing Sweet child in time from Deep Purples 4 album released in 1970 is breathtaking and a lot of rock singing was influenced by him and deep purple
The original version of "When a Blind Man Cries" was omitted from the Machine Head" album due to Ritchie Blackmore claiming it was too slow, but imo, it is by far the besr version i have heard.
How beautiful. You observe the music as if an old master, joyful at the palette. Retrace the loving brush strokes. Gentle fingertips on the canvas. The shadow and the light.
Hello - I want to start by pointing out that sometimes my honesty in my comments is read as negative. Criticism has two sides, it's not all about complimenting. That said, I have been an Ian Gillan fan since 1969, and have followed his very varied and impressive catelogue of music ever since. I want to point out, you make some comments about lengthy instrumentals in this version of this song. Well, it is a live performance and Gillan comes from a line up of jamming instrumental bands - most namely Deep Purple. Hence long solos. The original studio version of this by DP only runs like 3:20. Have heard and seen many live versions by him of this song, and this is one of my favorites. You tried to categorize him, and he's all that you mentioned. Great bluesy singer - hard rocker - soulful - emotional - great control in his prime - and when he wants, an absolutely beautiful voice. Perhaps you are unaware he portrayed Jesus in the original Jesus Christ Superstar. Give it a listen. And for a further adventure into his voice, I highly recommend this little piece DP did with orchestra in 1969 - th-cam.com/video/dt-CX3k0PYw/w-d-xo.html. To make it more impressive, this is an unrehearsed piece that Gillan had just put words to less than an hour before performance - true story. Finally, the scream. Yes, it is a scream. it is not nasely(sp?) or heady. It comes from the back of the throat - piercing, powerful. You can sing a bit operatic, but no offense, you don't scream so well. It is his trademark, and he did it for many years until age and wear and tear took its toll. No one else had "that" scream. Someone else suggested Child in Time to you by Deep Purple. Yeah go for it. But remember, they are a jam band. Even the studio version of that one has long key and guitar solos. But do listen to it from the Made in Japan live concert and be ready to be outrageously impressed. There's lots of music out there, but I do suggest that if you're the least bit impressed by Ian, that you dig further into his catelogue. Respect and happy music hunting
Love this! Deep Purple were along with Led Zeppelin, Sabbath and Priest, the foundation for Metal, and even in many ways the future of Hard Rock. And Gillan was Purple's best singer IMO. (He had a stint with Sabbath, but I prefer Dio and even Ozzy with them) Regardless, as others have pointed out, many of the true great singers of Hard Rock and Metal's various sub genre owe a lot to Ian Gillan
Deep purple was my first concert at 18 I've seen Ian Gillan perform blind man live I have been a huge fan of Deep purple for 20 years and to the stay I've seen so many concerts and they are still in my top five I stood up on my seat I was just the experience was incredible I tell you what in real life his vocals are so much richer and powerful and intense and I stood on my seat and I've I think you blew a kiss at me because I waved At him and even just the crowd the ambiance so many old school rockers waiting in the q or in the van smoking pot listening to psychedelic music light pink Floyd and led it was amazing it was like being in a different time
If you liked this one you should definitely check out Ian Gillan singing Child In Time and David Coverdale singing Mistreated. Mistreated might be one of my favourite songs ever and the one song that inspired me to get into singing in the first place. Love the channel! Keep up the good work! EDIT: Oh btw he's doing Deep Purple, Ian, if you care to know ^^
Rebecca you are doing a fantastic job doing what you're doing!! Very entertaining and full of insight and humor!!! Great taste in music....and easy on the eyes!! Nice combo!! I'm a fan!!!
When a band like this can still fill the largest arena's in the world after 50 years playing, that says a lot. It snot an accident. These guys are GREAT!!!
This is actually Gillan's Band not Deep Purple. He does a version with Deep Purple..but if want to hear Deep Purple in the early Days one of the best Version Child in time BBC theirs also a version with Deep Purple in Concerto 1970 very good version.
Well, you are young, but appreciative of great vocals in music and I thank you. I grew up listening to Ian and others like him. He's definitely on my top five list. Others below have mentioned "Child In Time" from the Made In Japan album. It will blow your mind, but one of my favorites is the guitar vs. vocals battle on "Strange Kind Of Woman" or the cacophony/chaos into melody of "Lazy". FYI - You mentioned the long intros - this was early 70s music. Weed was much weaker back then. It took awhile before the buzz hit.
If you are curious to see what Ian Gillan could do.... Deep Purple - Child In Time - 1970
Yes!!
From Made in Japan album!

Cool video .... Ian Gillan is undoubtedly one of the greatest singers in Rock music ....Ever! It's good to see people appreciating his vocals!
Ian Gillan, my favorite Rock male singer ever.
One of the best voices in rock & roll.
He screams beautifully...
As others have noted, find Child in Time - it's Efing amazing.
Queensryche, I Will Remember UNPLUGGED... you will not regret it...
John DeVillires I concur.. But then, Rebecca will again lose control... Geoff Tate’s high notes burrow down deep into the soul.
John DeVillires You are referring to the MTV unplugged session they played in Los Angeles, right? Oh yes... she will ‚collapse‘ ! ( in a good way of course )
The Killing Words is even better.
Rebecca is so beautiful, expressive, funny...and cool about the drummer wearing an old school Flamengo shirt hehe. Kisses from Rio!
Thank you.
Please react to Strange kind of woman by deep purple made in Japan. Its 9:45' of pure talent. Jaw dropping. Amazing
Glad your checking out Ian , he is one of the finest rock singers ever, not to say also a lovely guy. Terry in London
Can’t stop watching you 🤩🤩🤩
Omg. Of course! He's a legend! It goes without saying
Spectacular! But I'll still go on with my lone crusade: Blind Guardian - The Bard's Song & Valhalla, Wacken Open Air 2016.
Best audience participation of any song ever
I'll go along with that mate I'll join you on this Crusade
I do support this motion.👍
Massimo Prevete or Beneath these waves by Demons and Wizards.
Thank you Rebecca, for helping me understand why this song moves me to tears.
I love that you highlighted his sheer expressiveness. All the range in the world won't do much good if you can't emote, yeah?
Ian has been a big part of my life & he his songs (voice) has picked me up many, many times. I feel lucky to have lived in his time.
Yes Ian is still making great music with Deep Purple and touring frequently. He’s 70 now.
More like 76 I think.
Is that the first time you heard the great Ian Gillan? A happy person... So much is yet to hear.
Yes, Ian is still singing, still in pretty good voice for a 74-year old.
You are my real true huge love rebbecca!!!!
Ian gillan vocal range, Child in time 💚🤘🏻
Ian Gillan, he's good, and he will bloody well tell you about how good he is!
Very subdued performance from Ian Gilliam but his early years in Deep Purple....child in time especially! Need to be heard
Adore your comment
Ian is still out there. I have back stage passes to see him next week and hopefully get to meet him.
Child in time pls
Sabbath with Gillan were great.
@@NightShooter87 Never said they weren't. I said I prefer Ozzy and Dio with them.
@@jasonstinebaugh8447 I didn't say you did I was just making a comment that's all.
Deep purple was my first concert at 18 I've seen Ian Gillan perform blind man live I have been a huge fan of Deep purple for 20 years and to the stay I've seen so many concerts and they are still in my top five I stood up on my seat I was just the experience was incredible I tell you what in real life his vocals are so much richer and powerful and intense and I stood on my seat and I've I think you blew a kiss at me because I waved
At him and even just the crowd the ambiance so many old school rockers waiting in the q or in the van smoking pot listening to psychedelic music light pink Floyd and led it was amazing it was like being in a different time
CHILD IN TIME (You might learn something) Still touring at 73
Cant believe you havent done Deep Purple's Child in Time, Rebecca
Ian Gillan one of the best rock vocalists ever
Yeah Rebecca...Got To Listen To His Performance In The 70's...Gonna Love It !!!
Child In Time & Fighting Man !!!
If you liked this one you should definitely check out Ian Gillan singing Child In Time and David Coverdale singing Mistreated. Mistreated might be one of my favourite songs ever and the one song that inspired me to get into singing in the first place.
Love the channel! Keep up the good work!
EDIT: Oh btw he's doing Deep Purple, Ian, if you care to know ^^
To this day, I say Coverdale's performance of Mistreated at the '74 Cal Jam was the singular highlight of the festival!
Zeergruush has to be cal jam version
@@ponytrekker9315 I just grew up admiring the MiE version. I wouldn't mind the Californis Jam version though. Coverdale rocks either way! \m/
Zeergruush that’s an excellent version as well but the Cal jam you get to see it visually which is even better..Plus they’re very similar
Hahaha "I felt like a firework just flew out of his mouth!" I must use that at some point. Perfectly summed up Rebecca!
Ian Gillan an extraordinary voice
Rebecca you are doing a fantastic job doing what you're doing!! Very entertaining and full of insight and humor!!! Great taste in music....and easy on the eyes!! Nice combo!! I'm a fan!!!
Thanks so much appreciate it
WINTERSUN - Time (live @ Sonic Pump studios)
Cheers!
Ian singing "Highway Star" ! He is pushing boundaries of his vocals .. Good Stuff ..
Mais um grande vocal pra galeria dos melhores.
When a band like this can still fill the largest arena's in the world after 50 years playing, that says a lot. It snot an accident. These guys are GREAT!!!
kept expecting the guitarist to go into the comfortably numb solo!
This is actually Gillan's Band not Deep Purple. He does a version with Deep Purple..but if want to hear Deep Purple in the early Days one of the best Version Child in time BBC theirs also a version with Deep Purple in Concerto 1970 very good version.
Yes, Rebecca , Child in time is a must. Please, react to it ! 😍
Love you. Rebecca. Hello from ARIZONA. ; )~
Lovely and enjoyable as ever Miss Rebecca❤️
