When cool bands in the 70s and 80s needed that extra boost of smoove goodness, they called Michael McDonald on the emergency red phone. He slid down the fireman's poll and rushed to whatever studio had the band in need. I mean, seriously, all these guys knew each other: Toto (nothing more than a band of sessions musicians, basically), Boz Skaggs' group, Steely Dan, the Doobie Brothers, Chris Cross, on and on. Good times, great music.

The guys in TOTO were session musicians and played on recordings for Steely Dan, Boz Skaggs and MJ just to name a few. If you ever get around to Steely Dan, I'd recommend Reelin' in the Years, Do It Again, Peg, Hey Nineteen, Deacon Blues, Rikki Don't Lose That Number, and Josie.

Toto is the band's band. Lead guitarist Steve Lukather usually didn't do lead vocals but he was stellar here. "As soon as for er is through, I'll be over you....."
Eddie Van Halen once cited Steve Lukather as one of the greatest living guitar players of all time.
This is one of my top favorite Toto songs and it’s just a bonus that Michael McDonald guest appears on this track.

Love your reactions and commentary! Suggestion is Dire Straits song Sultans of Swing, Alchemy Live, it's 10+ minutes of upbeat musical perfection; the one with the lead singer in the red jacket. Simply amazing music. Al Stewart Year of the Cat is another suggestion. There are good songs, and then there are musical masterpieces like these 2 songs 🙂.
