I've aligned my BRZ with the string method a few times now. Here are some things to keep in mind. 1. You have to account for the track width difference front and rear. The front is 59.8 inches and the rear is 60.6 inches, that's a .4 inch difference per side. To account for this, you measure the distance from your rear wheel to the string (say 3 inches for example) and then you measure the front the same but add .4 inches (3.4) to make up the difference. This makes the string "perfectly" parallel with the car. 2. I prefer to measure from the center of the face of the wheel, as close as you can to the center cap but without going through the center cap hole. There is no axle nut on the fronts so you are going to have a difference if you do it that way. 3. It is ideal to align the car when the suspension is settled. However, both times I did it, I set all four corners on 6x6 wood blocks. This makes it WAY easier to get/reach under the car to make your adjustments. Before adjusting, I set my coilovers to max soft and bounced the car up and down to try to settle it as much as possible. The first alignment I ran for almost 3 years with no weird tire wear. The second alignment was just a week ago and it feels just as great!
Haha, I tried this without the toe plates when I installed my Coilovers, LCA's and toe arms. Lets just say it wasn't close even had the wife helping lol. After they got it on the rack I was surprised I could even drive it there. Glad to see your outcome was better. Thanks

You want as much castor as possible on the STI. Usually people 180deg the front camber plates on the coilovers to allow the adjustment. But assume that doesn't apply to the brz?
Not that ive read, thr lower LCA does not give me any adjustment for caster, should follow a very similar suspension set up to thr STI, ive transfered some OE parts from thr Asti onto thr BRZ already. I'll dog into it a little mkre and see what i can find
Lol my eoom mate and I were talking about this last night actually, laser alignments aork but you can align the car, take it off and put it back off and it will say the alignment is off based off of true position of the car 😅 strings dont lie
@@Smeedia last time I had a laser alignment it actually was off to the right a bit. So im all set, I'll diy this lol. But I'mma still sell it cause it flags about an hour or two when it doesn't take that long 😂
I have equal measurement from all sides, but the fender gap is unequal, the left side is higher than the right. It's like 1 finger gap from the right and 1.5 finger gap from the left.
@@Smeedia yes, maybe each vehicle is different and isn't always weighted perfect 50-50 from side to side even I measured the thread below the collars to match side to side. I think I need to adjust one side to achieve equal visual ride
Hey brother, that harbor freight box was to tall. Normally those plates sit at grade or even with the bottom of the tire. Get another set of bricks the same height as the ones the car is sitting on

Just a tip on setting dampening. Always start at either full soft or full stiff then work up or down. Nice job on the alignment!

This is how my Evo was aligned and was surprised at first cuz my previous sti was aligned with lasers.
The stings work very very well, ive had questionable alignments off of lasers
