    Yes the old one is way better.
    I know your focus is the real estate, but you really should do some seriouse test sailing before buying a cat that weights 20 tonnes...ouch!

      Of course. Window shopping now with a focus on comfort. When we are ready to whip out the check book, we will certainly do a lot more study and test sails of the boats we narrow down. These Majestics sail here from South Africa. From all accounts they sail quite well. They aren't going to beat a Outremer 5X in a race but, we don't care about that. We will be living in much more comfort with lots of room for guest crew for long passages, if we had the Majestic, at 1/2 the price.

      It's just shocking for me My current favorite is 8,5to@50ft...loaded to the waterline. Not for racing but for good day runs on little canvas, hence peace in mind.
      But I really love that sort of fully protected helm, that you sadly can not really have on performance cats

    I was at Annapolis last year (‘17) and clearly remember that (prior) boat but having sailed 5k ocean miles in both monos and cats I wondered how that size (displacement) boat would sail, handle, and maneuver in varied conditions. It was clearly spacious and that is certainly important to you. And I agree that it seems to be strong value for features. In any case, I’d love to see it performs under sail.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well they keep sailing them to Annapolis from South Africa, so clearly they sail pretty well and can handle big ocean crossings. Speaking to existing owners they say it sails very well. It's not a race cat but it sails well for its girth.

    Although it is kind of fun to watch these clips of condomaran shopping, I keep hearing a clock ticking loudly in the background. Four or five years (even months or weeks) from now you could be (probably will be!) dealing with a whole new set of circumstances. I've got a neighbour just inches from retirement who got sick this year and now has been in the Queensway Carleton for six months. His spectacular "land yacht" diesel pusher rolling home he bought last year in anticipation of retiring is sitting in a Navan storage yard and he hasn't been able to meet his new puppy they adopted just before he went to the doctor to find out why he wasn't feeling great. My point is we have to live for today, enjoy what we have now and not defer our happiness for rainbows & unicorns in the future. It seems your "must haves" requirement list is skewed towards volume, high weight & drag, appearances & land(ish) living, while being on the water may be very different than what you think.
    Buy a used, cheaper boat and go sooner rather than later. The beauty is OUTSIDE the boat, so don't worry about the wood-finished paneling & under-mount sink count. Boats are not a great investment, so I wouldn't take the proceeds of selling everything you own and placing the sucker bet you will be reaching the Marquesas in six or seven years. One of the reasons people sit at anchor endlessly is that a cruising yacht is a full time contortionist job constantly repairing & maintaining complex systems, while trying to find expensive obscure marine parts in places where they don't have Amazon, take out & cell service. Your mileage may vary and objects on the horizon are closer than they look.

    Yah, you can definitely see the owner's family situation in that layout. They have basically ceded the whole main deck to having a gaggle of teens running up and down all day, while the adults retreat up to the fly-deck with their own little snack/drink fridge and keep the kids out of the controls. Big galley because it's always big family meals. It's cool that Majestic is so flexible with owner designs and still finds places to sneak in storage etc.

    That is the best boat you guys have ever been on. The gray/white looks great and modern. I know you like the wood but that is so old school. The layout on that boat for a family is great. It also has more than enough sinks to make you happy.

      Cruising Off Duty cool. I wonder how many of these boats are sailing around the world vs in a fixed spot like the Caribbean. If it has good seaworthiness and the speed is in the neighborhood of Lagoons then it’s a much better choice than a Lagoon.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it sails about the same as a Lagoon. Its heavy but its long at 53' so it would OK and be comfortable in most conditions due to its large size.

    I think that this specific boat is now on sale for 1.1 mil $ (huge price cut). See it here: www.yachtworld.co.uk/boats/2017/royal-cape-catamaran-majestic-530-flybridge-3240183/
    P.S. If that's not it then it's its twin brother.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is another RC Majestic 530. But yes a flybridge. Asking $1,275,000 after a "Big Price Reduction". So I'd still go for a Sports seat version and start with a new one a $945,000. 5 years used version maybe we get around $600,000. Or less, if the boat market gets weak in a recession. Who knows?

    • @C_R_O_M________
      @C_R_O_M________ 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cruising Off Duty the boat has identical layout and color scheme. Galley in the hull, same black countertops, same tiles, same covers for the girl room. Those are lots of coincidences to be a different one.

  • @danmallery9142
    @danmallery9142 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow, it is not in the budget for most of us but it is an incredible value for someone in the market for a 1m dollar boat! There are a lot of 40-45 footers in that price range with, in some cases, less features and quality! Man, if you could find a used one...

  • @Starmania_FR
    @Starmania_FR 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Majectic 530 has no interest because the portholes are too high, when you sit in the living room you don't see in front or on the sides, in the cockpit it's the same.
    If you have to be standing up to control in front of you while sailing, a big advantage of the catamaran is lost.
    So for me, catamaran badly thought.

    I've seen some videos of Ooga Chaka before (I actually went searching for it, since this is the highly customized boat the owner of last year's Majestic was telling you about, for the family with the four daughters, and was intrigued). It's VERY different from last years, but I think in terms of being very specifically purpose built? This boat is an amazing indicator of the great amount of customization available.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree. It wouldn't be the finish or layout we would have chosen, but it does go to show you that Royal Cape will customize your interior in any way you want. Not many builders would do that without adding a lot of fees. If you wanted the Sport version for $945,000 but you asked them to turn a bedroom into and office or go from the standard 5 cabins to 4 bigger cabins, etc, they said they would do that at no additional cost. As long as you are not asking for extra stuff put in they will not change the price. That is very cool to have it custom to what the buyer wants. Rare in the industry.

    • @evagreenwell3610
      @evagreenwell3610 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bowmans-WoodsFor a couple, like yourselves, it would also be entirely possible they could convert one of those rooms into a full fledged workshop as well, which would probably work well for full time livaboards. • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. We don't need 5 cabins to sleep in unless we decided to run a crewed charter business. So we'd convert a bedroom into an office and for storage. The Maverick and Antares are both nice boats. The Antares costs about the same as the Majestic, so it is hard to say I wouldn't still go for the Majestic with all the extra stuff you get for the same price.

      Well, 1 Mil later, I suspect they are motivated to convince themselves, it sails well! Also, I would beware the high C.O.G.; the guy on the fly bridge all-but-admits, it's a sketchy (I would say UNSAFE) decision. Compare to the Balance, or the Antares, which truly put safety first - especially the Antares, where the Naval Architects REFUSE to shift the balance, one inch off plan (bravo!). @@Bowmans-Woods

    Thinking of buying a cruising cat myself (just need a wife like yours). You would do a great service by going beyond the storage capacity and cosmetics. Do they all come with Yanmars? Should you spec a Volvo or some other make? Is engine noise a problem when they are mounted underneath the stern beds? In mast furling? What's the optimal genset/solar/wind generator combo? Hydro gen? Best instrument package? From looking at other channels, seems the auto pilots are constantly going out. Overall, who has the best build quality. (Hint, Leopard.)

    Thank you for the video. You said something that caught my ear about the galley. If you prefer a galley up what do you do with the space below. Are you adding the extras bedroom? If you stay in the boat full time is that not wasted space to have so many extras bedrooms? I have a family with three kids and really related to this layout for a family. Thanks

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Galley up means more cabin space below. Not necessarily more cabins, because you could get an owner's version where one entire hull is just the owner's cabin and owners head. If we had a cat with too many rooms we would just convert one into an office and perhaps another into a workshop. I have seen one guy created a fully functional wood working shop in a cabin. If he needed it for guests he could bring back in the mattress and convert it back to a room for sleeping. We could use an office, for sure on our future boat, assuming we were filming and editing videos all the time as we travel the world. Doing that in the main saloon while someone is cooking and making noise can lesson the editor's (me) productivity. A separate and almost silent office would be perfect for editing and recording voice overs.

    I can see why you love this cat so much there's little to complain about in any area. What I didn't see in this years model is a chart table / Nav station, I assume there is one just didn't see it, $500,000 more for the flybridge is, as you say, an awful lot of money to pay for this feature - a 50% increase wow. Perhaps in the future you could do some test sails of your favorites especially if you do a test sail as a potential liveaboard couple not just a hour or so in a bay a proper test.

    This is a very practical design. I like the rubberized decks from a practical stand point. I am not a big fan of teak decks. Most teaks decks are too thin caulk lines are too narrow. The boards shift loosen over time. Teak decks become scored and weathered and breakdown. They become ruff on your feet and are expensive and time consuming to fix. teak decks needs to be maintained weekly. This design makes sense for a large family and ease of maintenance. I'll take ease of maintenance over the fancy wood any day.

But it works for the guy who built it and his kids who are young. Royal Cape is an awesome company to work with. We have friends who built one in South Africa and cannot say enough positive about this tank. Comfort yes! Points like a J class....Um not so much. But it is a massive condo big enough for all the creature comforts and lots of friends. We love the customization and the "All inclusive" no bs pricing. We keep trying to talk ourselves int o a FP or Bavaria etc.. But we always come back to the M53. BTW Im the guy who yelled "Hey cruising off duty" 2 years ago while standing on the Lagoon at the Annapolis show .. Keep up the good content.

      Hey mark. Cool, I remember you. Yes, the all-inclusive price is a big selling point. Just love this boat even if it ends up being a bit on the slow side.

      The Majectic 530 has no interest because the portholes are too high, when you sit in the living room you do not see in front or on the sides, in the cockpit it's the same.
      If you have to be standing up to control in front of you while sailing, a big advantage of the catamaran is lost.
      So for me, catamaran badly thought.

      Thanks. Yes it is frustrating. We wish we could afford to go now. Waiting for my pension to vest. Otherwise, I am sure we would go now. Life is too short to wait, other than we need to survive while we sail the world and money does put food on the table.

      Well. They told me $1.45M. You heard the guy on the flybridge, that works for the company, confirm it to. He said "It's almost like a whole second boat".

      @@Bowmans-Woods The guy who owns the boat has a few youtube videos of him sailing it up. The flybridge actually looks reasonably accessible (one guy scrambles up from the bow really quickly). That said, the added swaying does not look like fun, especially with the way cats roll (or don't).
      EDIT: Here's the video of them sailing in reasonably heavy seas:th-cam.com/video/88LwY8IAqhs/w-d-xo.html

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really the same boat we were on? I doubt that. They guy who owned it sounded like he had plans to sail a lot more. Who knows? If it is the same boat perhaps there are health issues. He had nothing but good things to say and if he hated the boat I am sure they would not have had the owner on the boat to possibly sabotage future sales. Perhaps Robert can clarify if he is reading this.

      Waiting for my pension to vest. If I went now I would have to pay a huge penalty to start drawing on it now. Plus in 4 years, our house will be paid off and that is a big chunk of where our money will come from to buy this boat. If I had another way of making good money, I guess we could go now and just not touch the pension until it vests, but I can't see any way to make the money I do now. TH-cam ads is not going to pay me anything more than beer money. haha.
