    The most detailed and through (BEST) fuel door repair on the internet. THANK YOU! VERY HELPFUL and honest. If I would have one recommendation, It would be to drill a very small hole in the bottom / lower part of the door pin and install a short piece of wire (bent in an "S" shape) so the pin doesn't pull up again at a later date. While the door housing is out, I plan on cleaning the plastic housing and the trim gasket and applying some lithium grease to the pin and on the latch mechanism latch pin. I would also blow some compressed air into the drain hose to insure that it isnt clogged/obstructed with debris. Thanks again. LIKED and SUBSCRIBED!

    I found this very helpful , I actually went a step further . After getting the hing pin back in the hole I drilled a very small hole in through the bottom of the pin and put a very thin cotter pin through it so it cannot work its way up again .

    Thanks for the help! Definitely the best video to get this done. For me, I didnt break any tabs...pressing down on the back tab first and then the front tab put less strain on the clips. I had the hardest time removing the rubber gasket, you really have to move it right to get it out! The plastic rod on mine at the hinge was cracked in half, luckily I bought the entire replacement part on ebay just in case. It was only around $40 so well worth buying it and not having to worry if the item is broken or not when replacing. Thanks for the help and I hope I never have to do this again!

    Thank you so much. I would have never found how to do it without this tutorial. Why Jeep make it so complicated? One thing I’d like to add is that the head (filler neck) of the pipe can be removed (unscrew a quarter of round or less) so that the plastic trap can be withdrawn more easily.

    Great video. I didn't have as hard a time getting mine out as he did. I didn't have a plastic ring, wish I did it would make it seem more sealed. I did discover after i installed mine i had a 1" slice in the rubber on the left side. I dont know if it came that way or if it got sliced installing it from the fuel opening. I used plastic bike tools that you would use to change a tire and they worked well. I didn't need any lubricant I just stuck a piece of 1 inch wooden closet rod in the fuel opening and moved it to the right and it came right out. I put it in the same way. I will put a little rubber glue on the slit. I also didn't have a fuel overflow line. This model was equipped with a weep whole. The door latch is as he stated it would be. I broke both clips as well as the top corner. Gluing the corner back and not worrying about the clips the new door functions fine. The spring from the old must have fallen out during driving.

    One suggestion if I may - when putting it back in place attach the drain hose then tilt the box to the right and you can slide the opening mechanism through the hole (don’t click it back into place yet with the two tabs). Then fiddle the rubber housing back on and seat the assembly in place. Click opening mechanism into place now and then put exterior plate back on and done.

    Also found a easy quick trick, not fix but it works. To make it still close but still let you be able to open it. I close the door not all the way. But just around the lip of the fuel door housing so its closed but doesn't get stuck, just make sure you dont push it too far that it clicks and locks. Just enough to sit there
    So u can just go to it and open it with your nail. I hope I was also able to help anyone else who isnt a mechanic. As a temporary fix until u can follow the videos instructions.

    • @fixitwithjake
      @fixitwithjake  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you go to the pump and it overfills for some reason, the fuel will drip down and maybe some of it onto the inside of your fender. The tube helps transport it directly to the ground so it doesn’t adhere to the car or touch anything. Ut I rarely if ever have my fill ups overfill. As long as you don’t try to top it off. Also, we have sensitive pumps in CA. Also, older car probably don’t even have a drain hose. I bet it just drips down the fender.
