- As we continue with our DIY renovation of our stone cabin in the foothills of the Italian alps, we have reach a huge milestone in this renovation as we are now pouring the foundation inside of the house. As we convert this stone barn into our dream home, this is a huge turning point. We also go on a hike through the Italian alps as a family.

I have had quite a bit of experience with working with concrete as a laborer. I was always looking at a job trying to find the easiest way moving forward. May I suggest that you build a ramp with 2x10 or 2x12 planks spliced together with 2x4 underneath so you can wheel right up to the form. Bucket by bucket is going burn you out in no time. Please consider this to save your back. Im now 70 and I can tell you its better to work smart not hard cause getting old after years of hard work sucks. You are doing an amazing job. Stay safe❤😊. This has got to be the most hard-working, optimistic, adorable couple with marvelous daughters who appreciate their adventure and parents so much. I’m about to have shoulder replacement surgery and as a hard laborer I feel it’s my duty to make you aware that your shoulder rotator cuffs can tear easier than you may know. Don’t exceed your young body’s expectations because a fall to your shoulder will have you laid up for a minimum of 4
to 6 months. Plus your daily strain on your bicep tendon can also delay your project by months- so PLEASE be vigilant

When moving to a new country and buying up a space if the land there is an inherent pressure rightly so to learn the language and integrate in the culture otherwise you’re one could move anywhere with a nice view. So good luck to them but rightly so they’re learning Italian and the culture :)

Beautifull experiences. Your house reminds me of an enchanting stone house my grandfather use to live in , in Montenegro. Every time I hear those church bells in the distance it breaks my heart; brings back memories of waking up to the sound of roosters and smells of roasted coffee beans, plucking a fig or a pomegranate off a tree, roaming and playing in the mountainous trails and fields….heaven and happiness as could be. I was just about the same age as your eldest but those were the happiest days with warmest memories I can remember as a child. I know your girls will thank you some day. Bless you all and never give up your dreams.
Watching the stone work reminded me of my Granddad bring stones from the creek to support the slope to the road. Mamaws's planted all kinds of bulbs so flowers all year around. I started crying, I miss them so much.💖

well as a longtime mountain dweller, I disagree. The place is dangerous, the first thing that should have been done is leveling the terraces above the house. It's a looming deathtrap.
I really do admire the way you can stay calm even when the worst things happen. Your efforts will not be in vain, because the final results will be awesome!

I’m sure at the beginning you thought, ….” and then we will just truck all the supplies straight to the house to concrete the floors…” . Never assume things will go to plan. Here in NZ we’ve had thunderous rains, washing out roads, main roads. Causing ginormous slips, undercutting roads, downing trees, flooding, making huge potholes… it’s been ongoing for months. As I watch you work so hard the rain outside is again thundering down. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. You seem to have excellent tradesmen, which is a blessing in itself. 😊

The road wash outs --all the more reason to save the small stuff when moving the terrace debris. More use of the terrace debris.

Those star boxes are cool. There are some see through igloos that you can watch the northern lights in Norway and Labrador, I believe. Those mountains are breathtaking. ❤

Wow - I'm sorry to hear about the road being washed out! But I am glad to see that you are able to finally move on to begin forming up the foundations of the house. At least that means you're through with excavations and now you are on to the build-back stage of the house. That's serious progress. I know this is probably trying your patience and sanity, but keep up the good work. It will pay off.
It’s a good thing you are young, because you are doing a lot of backbreaking work. The Refugio, looks amazing! Thankfully you were able to take a break and enjoy some family time, but even then you had you work hard to get there. Please stay healthy and work safe.
