This game and the way its writing is described even by people I respect suggests to me that everyone has just accepted that "good" video game writing is always going to be very bad compared to "good" writing in other media. Because the script for _Cyberpunk 2077_ is just hack cliche garbage from beginning to end, but compared to most games, it's good.
@Ben K That's the most blatantly stupid argument I've ever heard lmao. Honestly, I believe it's the best ending as well. To learn that, after everything, your entire struggle was pointless... then, Johnny keeps your body, and you see what his life is like after a few months and it turns out he hasn't learned anything. It drove the point home so well that the status quo doesn't care about you, that after everything, you were still just a bug under the corporations' boot. And in the end you come to realize that the promise of Night City was bullshit, that for all the importance placed on going out in a blaze of glory, for all the talk about striking back at the corporations and becoming truly important, none of it actually matters at all. It was such a pessimistic vision that was so consistent with how Cyberpunk stories end, I just think it's the perfect one.
@@sand5527 it’s quite a different interpretation from what I took. You say it’s pessimistic, but honestly, Johnny gets a very optimistic ending. The story shifts from being V’s story to Johnny’s road to redemption and finally getting a new life. One where he understands that Night City can’t be changed. That part, on a macro level, is indeed pessimistic, but the ultimate resolution Johnny gets to is not that dark: he made a friend in V and uses that gift of a new life to live without fixating on his ego and Arasaka anymore. I’d say it’s bittersweet rather than full on pessimistic. I do agree it’s the one that fits the most the cyberpunk theme, right after the Devil ending, which is just full blown depressing.

So Death Stranding got a revisit.... I feel this deserves one too. I didn't start playing til the 2.0 update (and now have almost 300 hours into my first playthrough), but that's the state this game should have been released in originally, would love to see you give this one another go.
@@davefish22802006? Are you crazy? Maybe 2015 or so, but if you think rps from almost 2 decades ago are generally higher quality than cyberpunk you have lost your mind. In some categories, I would say that even games way older than that are better in some qualities, but decades of game design evolving and lessons being learned have made games overall much better products than back then. Even with all that, I can't really think of any other large scale rps that ive played (other than Zelda, maybe Skyrim, and some of the fallout series) can be compared to cyberpunk post-patch. Then again, the state open world rpgs is pretty abysmal.
@@davefish2280 LMAO what you want them to do? It ain't your escapism simulator 2.0. And they never promised routines btw, that was a rumor/mistranslation spread by journalists.

@@toledochristianmatthew9919 That's exactly how I feel. I've put about 45 hours into the game, and at the current state I would maybe give it a 5/10, 6/10 at best. Only because once you become immersed in the story some bullshit happens like gang members T-posing in the middle of a fight, immediately ripping you out. I planned on 100% this game but I honestly am just going to wait the months until they patch out the bugs. If all of the bugs were patched, easy 9/10 game for me.

6:28 this is the one complaint I have about the game. The "choose where you start" was so hyped and the. After 20 minutes, no matter which start you chose, you are working on the same quests with the same objectives. There doesn't seem to be any "if you started corpo you're actually on the other side of this quest" stuff. Everybody gets caught and everybody gets "a few years later" into the training mission.
Exactly, they really sold it as a game where you can choose what kind of life to live. They showed corpos with fancy clothes and cars, and nomads with buggys and desert clothes. In reality everyone has the same experience really.
Yeah, the only main impact it had was how snobbish I wanted to sound in dialogue (I chose Corpo). Was a bit of a scam, especially since they developed a small plot in the starting sequence then never followed up on it. Correction: They did follow up on it but it was just me meeting a guy in a back alley and shooting him in the head. Took literally 30 seconds.
well the entire game is like that too. You have no choice whatsoever over the main storyline up until the very last quest. As far as "choices go" gameplay, this is like mid-tier if not worse.
The idea I think was for V to leave behind their past Corpo/Street Kid/Nodam life and become an Edgerunner. But yeah, some lifepath storylines end too abruptly

It's wild to play this game in the summer of 2022, where the one part of the game that couldn't be patched, in spite of how much the rest of the game has been improved, is still the best. Like wow it's so much smoother now but god DAMN the acting and personality of all these people STILL carry it. Wild to, after a couple of missions, find myself actually feeling like the bonds these characters formed was actually real?

@@blackaua I think the best aspects are: Jackie, Johnny, Judy, Panam and Viktor. All part of the main plot. But yeah, to really see how great the characters are you have to go out of your way to play their side quests and read their texts.
I freaking WISH we could go bowling with Judy or River or any of the other cool side characters we meet and make friends with. Such a wasted opportunity to have their contacts in your phone then never have chance to interact with them.
@@superkelification Was thinking the same thing when I was playing... I was kinda missing the "Hey COUSIN!!" phone calls. Your "friends" in cyberpunk just fall off the face of the planet once you finish their sidequests.
4:36 keeping that in mind, remember the "beat the brat" side-missions? If you beat all of them, you unlock a final fight which is designed to make you lose. My sixth sense kicked in right before the fight and I saved just in case, so I had the chance to restart and go for a retry.. or a few hundred. I played the game on the hardest difficulty and even with gorilla arms,- the clunky ass melee combat in a very limited area and your hitbox being bigger than the arena itself all the while you're taken down by two hits was FAAAAR from being an enjoyable task to finish. All-in-all, it took me around 4 hours straight to finish it. For a fight you're designed to lose, there are no achievements, no extra guns or clothing, not even a token. The only thing you get is a task off of the quest screen, which would've disappeared anyway. This was the only challenging encounter in Cyberpunk and imo the actual final boss of the game, yet such a disappointment. Not a lot of people went for the fight (at least what could be found from online) especially during the first week of launch, when I did that and I don't recommend going for it now.
you actually get a gun, a legendary iconic sniper, called ....not sure hawai-0....5-0...or something, i forgot. but its the strongest sniper ingame, since every shot explodes when you hit an enemy!
@@maikwokwik9739 It's missable and it doesn't come from the last fight mentionned here. However as I just beat the game yesterday 100% (including beat on the brat) a little update about this fight. I don't know how the fight was on release, I played the game right after the release of patch 1.3 and with good hardware, meaning I had zero frame drops in 60 hours of play. This fight got me mad, like super mad. I spent one hour screeching on the game claiming it was clunky buggy and full of jank and this was poorly tested out. Then after I baby raged I was so set on winning that I kept on going, but focused a lot more. In 10 minutes I understood the fight way more and 5 minutes after I won without even getting hit once and not feeling cornered once. See the melee combat FEELS clunky but actually works, even if it doesn't look like it (which is a problem admittedly) but I read so much hate about this fight, and I hated it so much, but in the end with proper comprehension of the game's melee system it really just was a walk in the park.
@@trcthorkun I personally don't think the perspective is the problem. I'm so greatfulf or it: I really enjoy the perspective and detail of driving in first person. So Death Stranding got a revisit.... I feel this deserves one too. I didn't start playing til the 2.0 update (and now have almost 300 hours into my first playthrough), but that's the state this game should have been released in originally, would love to see you give this one another go.
its still pretty terrible. The NPCs walk around but they don't interact or do anything. It's no better than any RPG from 2006 or so.

A game that makes me depressed because the good is so good, but the bad is everywhere, and I just can't help but wonder what could've been.

@@def_r4727 gudluck lol

@@rasmustagu that was another quest where you get a sniper! i am 99% sure
