Yeah. These small-brains don't understand. The whole game takes place in the Matrix (hence why Keanu Reeves is there!). The "bugs" are just glitches in the matrix that should give players a hint that the world they see is not real. Once you get woke you can unlock the real ending that takes place in the real world.

Yep, the relationships, writing and just those moments where you actually feel like you're having a heart to heart convo with someone is what tells me that if given more time, this game could've been amazing
This game and the way its writing is described even by people I respect suggests to me that everyone has just accepted that "good" video game writing is always going to be very bad compared to "good" writing in other media. Because the script for _Cyberpunk 2077_ is just hack cliche garbage from beginning to end, but compared to most games, it's good.

I don't even give a shit about the game, but saying you're some kind of "master plot critic" because you've watched movies and read books, something that billions of other people can do, is something that you'll hear coming out of a toddler's mouth who's actin' like a know it all.
Hell, as far as I can tell you probably watched shit like Jack and Jill or Paul Blart instead of something like Scorsese's or Fincher's.
Thankfully a year later the game is much, much better. Plays on my PS5 really smoothly and with the good gameplay and great writing it’s now a pretty solid game.

So Death Stranding got a revisit.... I feel this deserves one too. I didn't start playing til the 2.0 update (and now have almost 300 hours into my first playthrough), but that's the state this game should have been released in originally, would love to see you give this one another go.
The fact Dunkey considers the Temperance ending as the best one tells me this guy has a stronger soul than I can ever muster in my life
Honestly, I believe it's the best ending as well. To learn that, after everything, your entire struggle was pointless... then, Johnny keeps your body, and you see what his life is like after a few months and it turns out he hasn't learned anything. It drove the point home so well that the status quo doesn't care about you, that after everything, you were still just a bug under the corporations' boot. And in the end you come to realize that the promise of Night City was bullshit, that for all the importance placed on going out in a blaze of glory, for all the talk about striking back at the corporations and becoming truly important, none of it actually matters at all. It was such a pessimistic vision that was so consistent with how Cyberpunk stories end, I just think it's the perfect one.
@@sand5527 it’s quite a different interpretation from what I took. You say it’s pessimistic, but honestly, Johnny gets a very optimistic ending. The story shifts from being V’s story to Johnny’s road to redemption and finally getting a new life. One where he understands that Night City can’t be changed. That part, on a macro level, is indeed pessimistic, but the ultimate resolution Johnny gets to is not that dark: he made a friend in V and uses that gift of a new life to live without fixating on his ego and Arasaka anymore. I’d say it’s bittersweet rather than full on pessimistic.
I do agree it’s the one that fits the most the cyberpunk theme, right after the Devil ending, which is just full blown depressing.
I get this feeling Dunkey doesn’t really like Death Stranding.

Sad to see dunkey sensationalizing the glitches in this game. For example, weightlifting while dual-wielding guns is not a glitch at all, but actually common practice in American gyms. Driving your car through boulders and pedestrians? Standard feature of any Tesla vehicle. I could go on, but I'm running late for my T-posing yoga class and after that I'll probly do some shopping at PeePee.
after 500 hours in this game, the most surprising thing is that Dunkey thinks the Temperance ending is the most satisfying. i mean i like the ending, i get where hes coming from but man its just a dark ending in a sea of dark endings

I’m gonna say it. This game was at LEAST-not 6 months, not 12 months, but at the very least 2 years away from being finished. CD shot themselves in the foot, and have nobody to blame but themselves. What a shame.
Yeah it feels like they got half way and someone showed up and said, "okay time to start wrapping up" and everyone was forced to just stop where they were at and finalize.

I'm really hoping Dunkey does another video on the game now that 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty are out, the update fixes pretty much all the technical issues while the DLC adds an entire new storyline that even addresses some of the complaints he mentioned he had with the base game's story, the new area they added is also super dense and full of detail and things to do and they even improved the small gigs and made them as interesting and engrossing as the bigger side quests.
Seriously. I just played it for the first time and holy shit it is a work of art. It defines triple A, this is the kind of stuff that justifies games as an industry
I can't say I have any interest in supporting a game that starts off this poorly. There are too many good games that release in a finished state to waste time on this. Hard pass.

Essentially that it's just an interactive movie, not a game. I, for one; agree with him. It was a very lackluster game with a confusing story and no real point to playing it since you watched most of it.

It’s an exceptional game, with a one of a kind core loop. It carries very strong messages and communicates them not only in the narrative, but most importantly in its gameplay. But, it comes with huge flaws, mostly on the narrative and UX side. If one can’t get past that, which I totally understand considering how bad it can get, he/her will unfortunately never get to appreciate the rest of the game.

Nice to see how far this game has come in the 2 years, the state it launched in is inexcusable but it is great that the devs stuck with it and we finally have a game that is free of most issues pointed out by dunkey.

I still get some bugs but overall it plays pretty good on my pc, if the game was released now it would have a much better reputation
Still lacks tons of features, bugfixes etc. Try playing the game without a hundred of different quick/auto saves (that honestly was really smart of them to implement), and you'll start noticing a shitton of unpleasant bugs that are still capable of ruining your experience quite badly. Constant reloading of saves is almost a routine, and yes it's quick and convinient (most of the time), but those bugs should never exist in the game in the first place.
Game is like 6/10 rn; and only because it's being carried hard by its endings.

I've always said that Cyberpunk is about as good as Skyrim. And people think, "Wow, that's high praise!" And I'm like "No, it's not." Skyrim was an aggressively mediocre game with an extraordinarily railroady story - Cyberpunk is also an aggressively mediocre game with a story that gives you the level of choice a locomotive gets on a day-to-day-basis.

@@toledochristianmatthew9919 That's exactly how I feel. I've put about 45 hours into the game, and at the current state I would maybe give it a 5/10, 6/10 at best. Only because once you become immersed in the story some bullshit happens like gang members T-posing in the middle of a fight, immediately ripping you out. I planned on 100% this game but I honestly am just going to wait the months until they patch out the bugs. If all of the bugs were patched, easy 9/10 game for me.
The potential with the game is real, in a year or two I have no doubt it'll make a complete turnaround like No Man's Sky

It's wild to play this game in the summer of 2022, where the one part of the game that couldn't be patched, in spite of how much the rest of the game has been improved, is still the best. Like wow it's so much smoother now but god DAMN the acting and personality of all these people STILL carry it. Wild to, after a couple of missions, find myself actually feeling like the bonds these characters formed was actually real?
Agreed. I hope those who abandoned the game after its poor release will give it another shot now that much of the issues have been fixed. It would be a damn shame to miss out on this incredible game.

Yeah! Witcher 3 got sidequests *so* right. They felt like weird little plots that Geralt naturally stumbled into. Can't imagine how much work was involved in pulling that off. You go for a drive in Night City and every frigging fixer just calls you up.

6:28 this is the one complaint I have about the game. The "choose where you start" was so hyped and the. After 20 minutes, no matter which start you chose, you are working on the same quests with the same objectives. There doesn't seem to be any "if you started corpo you're actually on the other side of this quest" stuff. Everybody gets caught and everybody gets "a few years later" into the training mission.
Exactly, they really sold it as a game where you can choose what kind of life to live. They showed corpos with fancy clothes and cars, and nomads with buggys and desert clothes. In reality everyone has the same experience really.
Yeah, the only main impact it had was how snobbish I wanted to sound in dialogue (I chose Corpo). Was a bit of a scam, especially since they developed a small plot in the starting sequence then never followed up on it.
Correction: They did follow up on it but it was just me meeting a guy in a back alley and shooting him in the head. Took literally 30 seconds.
well the entire game is like that too. You have no choice whatsoever over the main storyline up until the very last quest. As far as "choices go" gameplay, this is like mid-tier if not worse.
The idea I think was for V to leave behind their past Corpo/Street Kid/Nodam life and become an Edgerunner. But yeah, some lifepath storylines end too abruptly

So it's been a year since the game released. I played it through again to see if there's been some improvements and can say with a decent amount of confidence that most bugs have been squashed. The thing that made me go kind of insane my first playthrough was the sound bugs, people would go mute and music would be layered or not play at all. It broke cutscenes and immersion entirely. Not encountered any of that this time around. Obviously you're still going to encounter a few bugs during a full playthrough since the game is so script heavy and complex but nothing too major.
As for the performance, it's definitely better on PC at least. Driving feels slightly better as well but nothing crazy, almost as decent as GTAV which doesn't have great vehicle handling either. The big gripe is still AI and gameplay. It's missing a bit when it comes to the wanted system and enemies acting with some kind of strategic intelligence. Overall, the game is competent and I would put it around the same level as Marvel's Spider-Man these days. It's a good game for sure.
Dunkey didn't brush too much on it on this review but there's a lot that CDPR promised and didn't deliver on. Choices especially, there's not much of that. The background for your character doesn't matter much either. Being a corpo or streetkid doesn't affect much of the main story more than some speech checks or unique dialogues options here and there. Hopefully, the DLC's will be so good and vast that the holes in this game will be filled. I wouldn't get my hopes up too much, though.

@@lleytonyang9207 finished it a couple days ago on PC. Ran into very few bugs & only 1 that was annoying enough to cause me any pain (weird camera jittering that was fixed by restarting the game. Had to do it twice over my 40 or so hours with the game.)
People shit on this game so hard even to this day to the point where you'd think everything about the game is trash. Because of that, I had really low expectations going in & was presently surprised even at the end. Definitely a game I'll come back to in a year or so & play again in a more streamlined fashion for a different build, focus, & ending. Overall, it's a solid game. There are farrrrrr worse open world titles out there. Aspects of it remind me of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, but minus the great moral questions & choices. The story & most of the characters in it are interesting, even though some are cliche.
Solid game. I'd give it just shy out of a 9/10 for a story driven open world game.

@@bbbbbbb51 I finished the game also a few weeks ago. I enjoyed it a lot actually, waiting the 1-2 years to not play it at release was definitely the right decision for me some bugs but nothing ground breaking.
I am still waiting for nextgen patch even if I am PC players, I got suspision that lack of updates is caused by trying to put every little update into next gen patch.

I’m surprised he hates it that much. I only started playing it last month so I was able to get the (relatively) bug free and polished experience. I was actually bummed about having to put it aside to play Cyberpunk and was excited to go back once I started playing Cyberpunk. Its at the top of my play time list right now.

If anyone is reading this in 2023, the game is in a much much much better stage than it launched in.
This is a very solid first person RPG shooter (like far cry but with some mass effect levels of RPG-ness sprinkled in) that is carried HEAVILY by the setting and story. Nothing groundbreaking in terms of gameplay, and it's not the massive open world ultra-dynamic future sci-fi life simulator they implied it would be with early marketing, but it's still pretty good.
I'm playing on PS5 and it runs great. very few, but still some, bugs and visual glitches. I know some people get even better performance on PC. Give this game a try, the world building and the mission / story writing is top notch and is very cool.
