I told them that at that price range, I'll go to Chevrolet and get a god damned Camaro 1LE and have more fun all around and at the track. The general manager told me I'm not a true Toyota guy if I buy a Chevrolet. I told him my Supra alone makes me more of a Toyota guy than he'll ever be. I also told him my Z06 might not be fun but even the new 1LE Camaro is more fun all around and better performing than this overpriced Corolla. I also own an AE86 (Corolla sport gts), Mark IV Supra and my little 2000 Toyota Echo which has 321k original miles. I also have a 2004 C5 Z06. @ TheStraightPipes Yuri: My stock 18' Focus RS (besides the Mountune exhaust) rips the pops and bangs in sport and track mode LOUD 💥, sometimes 5 rapid gun shots in a row. Love it. BUT in normal mode there's no pops unless your really on it in the higher revs. I daily drive it. Drift mode in the winter is addictive 🤣.
    Another year or two, when my extended warranty is gone, I'll most likely get a GR Corolla. Focus RS owners have been having some issues getting parts with wait times up to 6 months for some items... stresses me out a bit, lol. Love my RS in every way better then what I see in the GR Corolla reviews besides the ultra stiff ride and lack of proven long term reliability that Toyota brings. The GRC does pop on the rev limiter at least lol. Great review guys! Cheers from a fellow Canuck! 🍻🇨🇦

    I think this is where the GR Corolla will shine the brightest, the same way Subarus historically have. To me, Subaru kind of lost it's way when it came to being the rally bred commuter car, and I really feel like the GR Corolla continues this ethos. Honestly, I 've never wanted to own ANY car more than I want a GR Corolla (except a GR Yaris, but that's moot in North America). I just LOVE the idea of a daily driver, track capable car that can absolutely crush a Canadian winter. But at $53k..... it's a real hard purchase to justify when I can get a WRX for 15k less.

    With only 6100 of these being made for sale in the US expect major price gouging. The biggest issue is availability. Most of the Corolla GR's competition is more widely available. If Toyota wants to make a serious mark in this segment, they need to have something between the regular Corolla and the Corolla GR.

    • @shippy1001
      @shippy1001 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The GR is sitting to close to $50k USD (without dealer markups), not a very good spot since you can buy plenty of amazing sports cars on the used market for that money or huge and comfortable SUVs for daily driving.

    Just to help understand the difference between "all wheel drive" and "4 wheel drive" also known as "4×4" is all wheel drive typically can have power distribution bias so rear gets more power load than the front, 4 wheel drive is all 4 wheels spinning with tbe same power and speed, typically in trucks and such

      "Overall, the main difference between 4x4 and AWD is that AWD systems are always active and automatically share torque among the axles when low-traction conditions are detected, while 4WD systems are part-time and need to be engaged by the driver via a lever or button in the cockpit."
      Also some 4WD systems can have two different speeds, and AWD systems can share different amount of torque between the rear and front axle. (Also possible in some 4WD systems too, and are many times used interchangeably by manufacturers.)
      There really isn't one defining answer what AWD or 4WD are since manufacturers decide to put whatever name they think fits best. For example my mother's 2019 RAV4 says it's AWD, even though the system is only activated by the driver. Same for many older Subaru Imprezas. But 4x4 can also be activated, as in my dad's Hilux, but the power isn't the same among all wheels (rear gets more torque than front). Got it?

    I think this car's kryptonite is the availability and PRICING. It doesn't matter how good it is if it's unobtainium. Even if you CAN buy one, for what little you get in the Core that price tag here in Canada is absolutely insane. For 45 grand you'd be much better off with a Golf R or Type R which both come fully loaded and similar (probably better) performance as opposed to the GR Corolla's 3-cylinder engine and bargain basement Core cloth seats, base audio system, normal brakes and no spoiler or hood vents. Or hell save 10 grand and take an N car like I did. Even the WRX, looks aside, is a way better value here; it starts at 15 grand less and you still have AWD and a 2.4L 4 cylinder making over 270HP at only 12PSI boost leaving loads of headroom for mods.
    In the US it's a very different story, it seems priced very competitively there being only a few grand more than an N car or even a WRX. I was worried this car was going to make me regret my Elantra N purchase after they announced the US pricing but lol nope, RIP Canadians I guess. The only way this car makes sense to me in Canada is for collectors (which is good, because from what I've heard of Canadian allocation numbers collectors are the only ones getting any of them anyway).
