The fifth symphony (well pretty much all of Beethoven's symphonies) is an astounding piece of composition. But it must be played with passion, and sensitivity to the Beethoven beat. This performance does this composition absolute justice.
Amazing! Job well done for the musicians and conductor! There was such emotion and it was beautifully played! I loved listening to it! It’s so great we can witness this amazing performance at the comfort of our own homes! 😊👍🏻
I've listened to dozens of recordings of this symphony, but this performance is as close to perfect as I've found. It's not quite as fast as LvB indicated, but it's close. No unnecessary ritards or over-romantic gestures. Perfect.
Ironically, this was a tad slower than Beethoven demanded. Beethoven insisted at the 5th symphony was to be played at 108 bpm. This appears to be a little slower...but DIVINE!!!!!
simplemente impecable para mi esa fue la cumbre de la musica de toda la humanidad sin desmerecer a muchos otros compositores pero Beethoven logro lo que nadie pudo componer hasta hoy
Can anyone help? I find my copy of the first movement has Contrabasso and Fagotti. I suppose that Fagotti is Bassoon. But most of the online copies of first movement changed Contrabassoon into Basso, but still have Fagotti. Why? Which one is correct?
Dear GG Man, Beethoven's 5th symphony features 2 bassoons and 1 contrabassoon. However, the contrabassoon is only used in the 4th movement. You can see and hear it, for example, at 2:51 in this video: th-cam.com/video/3WZP7-41iAU/w-d-xo.html We hope that we could help you with this information. Thank you for your question!
@@DWClassicalMusic Thank you for your reply. However, I am asking about the manuscripts. In the first movement, some printed with "Basso", but some versions printed with "Contrabasso." Thanks again.
Too many versions get the famous opening completely wrong. When Beethoven marked it as allegro con brio, that means “lively, with brightness". Those first 8 notes are too often played as ponderous with foreboding. Carlos Kleiber conducted the Fifth in a similar way as here (even quicker and lighter) and I think that is more correct to the composer’s intentions.
May I say -- I believe this movement starts too fast. It is more like the Morse Code for V -- dit dit dit dah -- hastily sent. I always think of this song as triumphant. The fast start diminishes the gravity of the moment. Beautiful video and performance, no doubt.
It’s often said, “music of a genius” and it truly is!

Short, short, short, loooong!
It’s awesome!
Completely agree. I haven’t heard such fidelity to the original since 1809.
This is the best in youtube uploads. Just sound more complete than others.
Loving the tempo, passion and enthusiasm.

this would go so hard at Coachella, I'd definitely mosh to this
Amazing how this music still slaps centuries later. I wonder how much music today will do the same.

Majestic !
I love this tempo; it's much more preferable to the others, which tend to be too slow.
Phil Collins did such a great job composing here.
😂
Go Phil!
Think you mean 'conducting' fella. And it is not Phil Collins. It is clearly Vladimir Putin! ;-)

You think all cello playing is Bach Prelude in G?

It sounds really great! Thanks for the time stamp!

Dear GG Man,
Sorry, but we don't have the scores either.

E' di una bellezza da piangere. Vorrei tanto sapere il nome dell'artista donna che suona il fagotto.

Beethoven wrote some nice tunes.

Yeah, there's plenty in the movement that can be played with brio but the opening sounds wrong if it's not played ominously.
Hmm……good!
