You have to pin a note on your mom that says, "I may be lost. I have Alzheimer's. Please call my son if I am acting strangely" and then add your phone number. That's what we did with my grandfather. Then you can relax and let them enjoy their walk. 💙💙

Our parents brought us into this world and did everything possible to keep us safe..happy..healthy.. Its wonderful to see children take care of them later on in life. I love my parents and I would do the same ❤️
Unfortunately, sadly, not all parents want their children safe/happy/healthy...I wish that always was the case, but it's not. This nice lady seems like she was a wonderful mother and raised her son to be a good man. Although it's too bad she is actually my exact age, and has this condition, she is lucky she has such a loving son who take care of her. God bless.
I'm going through this same thing right now. I left my job two years ago when my Father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. My Mother is also disabled - she suffered a brain injury after a hit and run. My Father used to take care of everything for her and now he can't because of his Alzheimer's. I am an only child, so it's up to me to take care of them. I have a family of my own as well, a husband and two sons. It can be really hard some days. Having to see my Father slipping away day after day is really hard and completely heartbreaking. That’s because human life span is increasing with each generation. By todays standard 50 years old is not even classified as “senior citizen “. Centuries ago people were dying in their 30s and 40s... unfortunately even tho human life span has increased.. our health span has stagnated.. many in the medical field nowadays are considering to tackle the process of biological aging itself in order to increase our health span and prevent age related diseases.

My father passed away on February 15th 2016 of Dementia, my mother passed away this January 25th of Dementia. I was so fortunate, they passed before the worst part, it was a blessing. It was extremely sad to watch the baffled look on their faces, at that point when they understood there was something very wrong with them. I call it the walking death, because that is what happens, it is so cruel. As their care taker I was constantly blind sided, as things could change from one moment to the next!! I consider myself lucky to have taken care of them, I can live with the fact that I did the best I could for them!!
Yes. That look. I saw it on my dad as he stared into the refrigerator for several minutes, seemingly unaware of what he was looking at or why he was there at all. Having been an LPN and worked in nursing homes, I was the only person who knew what was happening. Four years later, he was dead. I hate this miserable disease.
I know he said she's a shell of her former self, but she's full of personality! ! She's adorable, funny, kind. Bless her, and may the disease slowly progress. Updates would be lovely.
Poor lady. My grandad died because of Alzheimer's, and my auntie (grandads daughter) was diagnosed with Alzheimer's aged about 56. Honestly, it scares me shitless.

This is great! My grandmother also developed early onset dementia, now considered frontotemporal dementia. It happened so fast and it hit the family so hard that none of us had a moment to think. 5 years later, she sits here at home with the treatment of a queen thanks to her wonderful husband, 2 kids, and myself. It hasn't been easy, in fact, I'd say it's been the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I'm 24 years old and my life is on hold for my family, and I wouldn't have it any other way. My suggestion to anyone who cares, cannabis has done amazing things for some people, it needs more recognition worldwide. Thank you for sharing this story!

My mum doesn't have Alzheimer, but her brain is not what is used to be. I call her every two days to see what is going on. If time comes I will take care of her, just like she took care of me

she's not blessed, she's a bit lucky to have had a son naturally predisposed to kindness but mostly responsible for making him the man he is though her education. saying she is lucky or blessed kind of minimizes and downplays her role in raising a beautiful human
I am watching this is 6-2022. My mother had this. She had 5 kids and she lived with us all at various stages for almost 6 years until at age 56 she "rebelled" and left our homes to live in a tent at the lake. We could not stop her because it was her "right" to live as she saw fit. She had been an alcoholic in her younger years but had been sober for over 17yrs until then. She began to drink and 1 night she nearly killed a man in her diminished capacity and at 56 was placed in a nursing facility. We had family who worked there so we watched her closely but in her lucid moments it was horrible because she had no friends there really and knew she was too young. Also, we had to address several medical issues such as mammograms because she was still so young. The disease progressed and at 71 she passed after shattering her hip in a fall out of bed. We had really lost her years before. God blessed us at the last day that she knew us and was able to say goodbye. I remember it all so vividly. The decision to place her and mostly the decision to not resuscitate and let her go. It was so very hard but also such a blessing that we had gotten to have that moment with her. My prayers go out to any family dealing with such horrible diseases no matter what they are but especially for the most cruel. The ones that rob them of their minds or trap them inside a body that can longer act under their control. She was ready and would have hated to have lived in that state if she had had a choice. Cherish every moment. We only are gifted with 1 set of parents. Love them. Call them more. They think of you every day. God bless you all.
i was a companion care aid i loved my job but when my grandma got dementia it was different like a pice of my heart slowly dieing as she got sicker it stole who she was leaving an emptiness i still get sad about i always tell people see the person not the illness a part of them is still there love them give kindness
I wonder how much forgetfulness is stress induced with anxiety and the belief of failure. I've been living with anxiety and depression for all of my adult life, I've been taking meds since I was 19, and when I go through hard spikes I can't remember any incoming information. It's just a hard focus on the physical ailment du jour. My wife just reminded me yesterday that she'll be out of town for her mother's birthday this weekend. She claims she told me twice this week, but my mind was focused on work that's approaching due dates, and I don't remember what I ate for lunch yesterday. Stress plays a huge role for sure.
M. Ouija : Stress doesn't cause Alzheimer's Disease. It's a disease where the brain deteriorates, shrinks, and doesn't function anymore, and eventually, can't function enough anymore to keep you alive. So depression, and anxiety isn't related to Alzheimer's Disease. Visit Alz.org for more info.

my CPTSD has had a huge impact on my memory. I used to be very academically gifted because I had great recall and as I got older my memory got worse and worse and my grades suffered as a result. I was always someone who tended to misplace things or forget deadlines but now I barely remember the names of my coworkers in other departments even though I shop at my work all the time and they wear name tags. by the time I was 16-17 my mom often had to read my assigned textbook to me or I’d just reread the same two paragraphs for hours without absorbing anything. I frequently forget my own birthday and I rarely know what day it is. it’s strange how PTSD affects the memory: I can recall decade-old traumatic events like they happened a few minutes ago, but I have to set alarms to remember to walk the dog.

Wow! Now that I'm in this situation, with my Dad, I can totally appreciate this. Although my Mom is his primary caregiver, I want to be accessible to her to give her breaks to do things alone. I see the frustration and challenges that Mom goes thru. I can't imagine being the only caregiver. This is amazing! ❤
It is really important to realize that there are many more meaningful things to do than being entrapped by money making. This young man has achieved more with his life than many of the wealthiest people in the world.
If you need the bathroom, yank her out. She has no right to take over your life. If this were me, my kids would not hesitate to put me in a home. I don't ,understand why he cares.

Wow, that touched me a lot and I actually had to cry a little. The Alzheimer is a cruel disease. The connection between son and mother is really extraordinary. It's great how much he cares for his mother and made this great trip possible for her!
My grandma, when asked, was completely against my uncle - her son - taking care of her like that. Once it gets to washing, cleaning certain parts properly, changing them daily, watching them deterioriate, etc. is when the real courage comes in.

What a wonderful caring man - the way he treats his mother by letting her have her say and encouraging her to do what she wants - he is giving her the best care and attention. I have worked 18 yrs in care for the elderly and have come across so many people who's sons and daughters just don't have the time for them. So many people just don't accept that their parent have problems and sweep it under the carpet. I hope that Adam and his mum have many more years in their quest to cope with her dementia.

This story should be shown to all Alzheimer caregivers, patients (who want to see it), all medical students, and all medical providers (especially Palliative Care, Geriatrics, Neurology, Family Medicine, Psychology, and any other specialities who care for memory loss and dementia patients). I am so proud of Adam's maturity and how he has altered his lifestyle, developed a keen knowledge and understanding of dementia from a layperson perspective, and devoted his life at this time to caring for and spending time with his mom. He will cherish these memories for a lifetime and seeing Sue's smiles with him in the obstacle course, when Adam tells jokes, when she volunteers, and when she is in Europe lights up my heart and soul with love, happiness, and excitement. This film reminds me of my experience caring for my mom before her death from Stage 4 colorectal cancer. She also lost her memory and had some types of memory loss during her last months, so I do understand an iota of what Adam and Sue go through together. There is nothing I cherish more than my decision to care for my mom, and spend as much time as possible with her, after her diagnosis. The trips to hospital where I drove her, the conversations where I cried and she comforted me; she cried and I comforted her; and we comforted eachother discussing life and the future and how we would miss eachother were the best of my life. She was also named Sue. I am so happy Adam made it happen and made Sue's dream of travel come true. Adam, if you read this, I am so proud of you. I wish my mom lived longer so instead of being 21-24, I was older and more established during her diagnosis. I would have loved to have her live with me! I am a bit jealous. And the opportunity to do that travel - amazing. You are empathetic, wise, caring, thoughtful, and put others before yourself 100% Adam. We could all learn from you. You are doing an A+ job as a caregiver, child, and friend. You ARE giving your mom a full life by giving tour mom experiences, getting her off the sofa, getting her volunteering in the community, and making her laugh. If she does have to go into a care home, you can still do that. There are also some memory loss communities and day programs in the US; see what your mom is qualified for as you research online for options in NZ. This is the best story I have watched on TH-cam in 2020. Best wishes to Adam, his son, his girlfriend and most of all Sue. This is by far the best alz video I have EVER seen. The patience & care this son has for his mother is just so heartwarming. If this isn't love then I don't know what is. I am a med tech/caregiver for 16 alz residents & although it isn't easy, it is very rewarding. I can honestly say I love each & every one of them. It's not just a job to me, it is my passion. They give me the same love i give them. Granted they do get aggressive at times. So patience is a must. This young man is just amazing.

Cut out sugar and carbohydrates. Eat protein and good fats not oils. Try eating nutrient dense food just once a day. It has been shown to help. Longer fasts will force her brain to use a different food, ketones instead of sugar. Worth a try.
Yes! And fasting leads the body to go into autophagy, when it repairs and consumes broken genes, old misfunctioning cells, dna, and for example the misfolded proteins that make up for Alzheimer's. I'm not an expert but there are many actual doctors on TH-cam and the internet sharing their knowledge.

My best friend starting exhibiting symptoms of Alzheimer's 20 years ago at the age of 37. We met in 1967 in school and are more like sister's than friends. She's 57 now we both live in a nursing home and this scares me.

My momm is in the later stages of dementia. She’s elderly but physically she’s pretty darn good. I privately cry an ocean of tears everyday. I’ve given up friends, outing, my job- it’s a lot but I love her so much and I can’t bear of strangers taking care of her. No one can care for her like me and my brother is a huuuuge help. Just because I’m home 24/7 wirh her and yes it is very hard to give up any social life but nothing compares the the loving mother she was to us and therefore nothing can convince me to put her in a home. She wouldn’t have left my brother and I if we were sick and here in her little home she will stay. She will stay in her house til the day she goes to heaven. I know how you all feel watching your loved ones suffer through this all I can say is remember the beautiful person they were and that helps carry you though the hard days 🙏😥💜😌

Oh my gosh, I'm in tears here. I know this woman just loves her son soo much... The way she looks at him. She's very proud I'm sure to have raised such a kind young man. I have a son who's 21 and I look at him the same way, with pure pride. I am not struggling with this horrible illness however if I did or if I ever needed help in this way I know my children would do the same for me as Adam is doing for his mother. Also I will take care of my mother in her old age, iv always promised her that. I personally would never put her in a care home. I'll do whatever it takes to keep my mother with me. In no way am I putting others down who cannot take care if their parents in their old age, so do not misunderstand, this is only my personal choice. I realize not everyone can take care of their parents full time. It's ALOT of work, I know first hand how hard it is, as I've worked in nursing homes over the last 15 years. It's not easy. This is such a sweet story. It really tugged at my heartstrings ❤️.

That’s because human life span is increasing with each generation. By todays standard 50 years old is not even classified as “senior citizen “. Centuries ago people were dying in their 30s and 40s... unfortunately even tho human life span has increased.. our health span has stagnated.. many in the medical field nowadays are considering to tackle the process of biological aging itself in order to increase our health span and prevent age related diseases.

My father passed away on February 15th 2016 of Dementia, my mother passed away this January 25th of Dementia. I was so fortunate, they passed before the worst part, it was a blessing. It was extremely sad to watch the baffled look on their faces, at that point when they understood there was something very wrong with them. I call it the walking death, because that is what happens, it is so cruel. As their care taker I was constantly blind sided, as things could change from one moment to the next!! I consider myself lucky to have taken care of them, I can live with the fact that I did the best I could for them!!
Yes. That look. I saw it on my dad as he stared into the refrigerator for several minutes, seemingly unaware of what he was looking at or why he was there at all. Having been an LPN and worked in nursing homes, I was the only person who knew what was happening. Four years later, he was dead. I hate this miserable disease.
I know he said she's a shell of her former self, but she's full of personality! ! She's adorable, funny, kind. Bless her, and may the disease slowly progress. Updates would be lovely.

Poor lady. My grandad died because of Alzheimer's, and my auntie (grandads daughter) was diagnosed with Alzheimer's aged about 56. Honestly, it scares me shitless.

This is great! My grandmother also developed early onset dementia, now considered frontotemporal dementia. It happened so fast and it hit the family so hard that none of us had a moment to think. 5 years later, she sits here at home with the treatment of a queen thanks to her wonderful husband, 2 kids, and myself. It hasn't been easy, in fact, I'd say it's been the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I'm 24 years old and my life is on hold for my family, and I wouldn't have it any other way. My suggestion to anyone who cares, cannabis has done amazing things for some people, it needs more recognition worldwide. Thank you for sharing this story!

My mum doesn't have Alzheimer, but her brain is not what is used to be. I call her every two days to see what is going on. If time comes I will take care of her, just like she took care of me

As a newly diagnosed early onset dementia patient, I'm so happy to have found this video. I've searched for a support group and have only found ones for caregivers. I need input and advice from the people who are living with it and in the same stage as me. We all do.

I am watching this is 6-2022. My mother had this. She had 5 kids and she lived with us all at various stages for almost 6 years until at age 56 she "rebelled" and left our homes to live in a tent at the lake. We could not stop her because it was her "right" to live as she saw fit. She had been an alcoholic in her younger years but had been sober for over 17yrs until then. She began to drink and 1 night she nearly killed a man in her diminished capacity and at 56 was placed in a nursing facility. We had family who worked there so we watched her closely but in her lucid moments it was horrible because she had no friends there really and knew she was too young.
Also, we had to address several medical issues such as mammograms because she was still so young. The disease progressed and at 71 she passed after shattering her hip in a fall out of bed. We had really lost her years before.
God blessed us at the last day that she knew us and was able to say goodbye. I remember it all so vividly. The decision to place her and mostly the decision to not resuscitate and let her go. It was so very hard but also such a blessing that we had gotten to have that moment with her. My prayers go out to any family dealing with such horrible diseases no matter what they are but especially for the most cruel. The ones that rob them of their minds or trap them inside a body that can longer act under their control. She was ready and would have hated to have lived in that state if she had had a choice. Cherish every moment. We only are gifted with 1 set of parents. Love them. Call them more. They think of you every day. God bless you all.
i was a companion care aid i loved my job but when my grandma got dementia it was different like a pice of my heart slowly dieing as she got sicker it stole who she was leaving an emptiness i still get sad about i always tell people see the person not the illness a part of them is still there love them give kindness

I wonder how much forgetfulness is stress induced with anxiety and the belief of failure. I've been living with anxiety and depression for all of my adult life, I've been taking meds since I was 19, and when I go through hard spikes I can't remember any incoming information. It's just a hard focus on the physical ailment du jour. My wife just reminded me yesterday that she'll be out of town for her mother's birthday this weekend. She claims she told me twice this week, but my mind was focused on work that's approaching due dates, and I don't remember what I ate for lunch yesterday. Stress plays a huge role for sure.
M. Ouija : Stress doesn't cause Alzheimer's Disease. It's a disease where the brain deteriorates, shrinks, and doesn't function anymore, and eventually, can't function enough anymore to keep you alive. So depression, and anxiety isn't related to Alzheimer's Disease. Visit Alz.org for more info.
@@ed7519 I think he was making this point because I also caught that statement in this documentary. The son Adam did note that stress and trauma help bring this disease on. I don't know if this is true or not, but it was the first time I've heard this.
Alzheimer’s isn’t caused from stress, especially early onset Alzheimer’s. It’s usually genetic, which is not good news for her kids.
my CPTSD has had a huge impact on my memory. I used to be very academically gifted because I had great recall and as I got older my memory got worse and worse and my grades suffered as a result. I was always someone who tended to misplace things or forget deadlines but now I barely remember the names of my coworkers in other departments even though I shop at my work all the time and they wear name tags. by the time I was 16-17 my mom often had to read my assigned textbook to me or I’d just reread the same two paragraphs for hours without absorbing anything. I frequently forget my own birthday and I rarely know what day it is. it’s strange how PTSD affects the memory: I can recall decade-old traumatic events like they happened a few minutes ago, but I have to set alarms to remember to walk the dog.

It is really important to realize that there are many more meaningful things to do than being entrapped by money making. This young man has achieved more with his life than many of the wealthiest people in the world.
If you need the bathroom, yank her out. She has no right to take over your life. If this were me, my kids would not hesitate to put me in a home. I don't ,understand why he cares.

My grandma, when asked, was completely against my uncle - her son - taking care of her like that. Once it gets to washing, cleaning certain parts properly, changing them daily, watching them deterioriate, etc. is when the real courage comes in.

The one thing my mother Lin law wanted as she slipped further into dementia was a trip to Nova Scotia. She loved it when we took her.

What a wonderful caring man - the way he treats his mother by letting her have her say and encouraging her to do what she wants - he is giving her the best care and attention. I have worked 18 yrs in care for the elderly and have come across so many people who's sons and daughters just don't have the time for them. So many people just don't accept that their parent have problems and sweep it under the carpet. I hope that Adam and his mum have many more years in their quest to cope with her dementia.

I am so proud of Adam's maturity and how he has altered his lifestyle, developed a keen knowledge and understanding of dementia from a layperson perspective, and devoted his life at this time to caring for and spending time with his mom. He will cherish these memories for a lifetime and seeing Sue's smiles with him in the obstacle course, when Adam tells jokes, when she volunteers, and when she is in Europe lights up my heart and soul with love, happiness, and excitement.
This film reminds me of my experience caring for my mom before her death from Stage 4 colorectal cancer. She also lost her memory and had some types of memory loss during her last months, so I do understand an iota of what Adam and Sue go through together. There is nothing I cherish more than my decision to care for my mom, and spend as much time as possible with her, after her diagnosis. The trips to hospital where I drove her, the conversations where I cried and she comforted me; she cried and I comforted her; and we comforted eachother discussing life and the future and how we would miss eachother were the best of my life. She was also named Sue.
I am so happy Adam made it happen and made Sue's dream of travel come true. Adam, if you read this, I am so proud of you. I wish my mom lived longer so instead of being 21-24, I was older and more established during her diagnosis. I would have loved to have her live with me! I am a bit jealous. And the opportunity to do that travel - amazing. You are empathetic, wise, caring, thoughtful, and put others before yourself 100% Adam. We could all learn from you. You are doing an A+ job as a caregiver, child, and friend. You ARE giving your mom a full life by giving tour mom experiences, getting her off the sofa, getting her volunteering in the community, and making her laugh. If she does have to go into a care home, you can still do that. There are also some memory loss communities and day programs in the US; see what your mom is qualified for as you research online for options in NZ.

This is by far the best alz video I have EVER seen. The patience & care this son has for his mother is just so heartwarming. If this isn't love then I don't know what is. I am a med tech/caregiver for 16 alz residents & although it isn't easy, it is very rewarding. I can honestly say I love each & every one of them. It's not just a job to me, it is my passion. They give me the same love i give them. Granted they do get aggressive at times. So patience is a must. This young man is just amazing.

@@AttitudeLive Since early onset progresses pretty fast, she is likely seriously ill if not already gone. You should know as much and update accordingly. Early onset also has a strong genetic angle, so we really want to know: how is this fine young man doing? Does he carry the gene also?

Cut out sugar and carbohydrates. Eat protein and good fats not oils. Try eating nutrient dense food just once a day. It has been shown to help. Longer fasts will force her brain to use a different food, ketones instead of sugar. Worth a try.
Yes! And fasting leads the body to go into autophagy, when it repairs and consumes broken genes, old misfunctioning cells, dna, and for example the misfolded proteins that make up for Alzheimer's. I'm not an expert but there are many actual doctors on TH-cam and the internet sharing their knowledge.

My best friend starting exhibiting symptoms of Alzheimer's 20 years ago at the age of 37. We met in 1967 in school and are more like sister's than friends. She's 57 now we both live in a nursing home and this scares me.
An update for everyone wondering how sue is doing. she is still alive and well and seems to be doing ok according to her daughter in laws face book page.
Sue has raised a fantastic son and i love how much he loves and takes care of her, both are lucky to have each other . . also Adam is showing his son how to treat a woman Fantastic!!

My momm is in the later stages of dementia. She’s elderly but physically she’s pretty darn good. I privately cry an ocean of tears everyday. I’ve given up friends, outing, my job- it’s a lot but I love her so much and I can’t bear of strangers taking care of her. No one can care for her like me and my brother is a huuuuge help. Just because I’m home 24/7 wirh her and yes it is very hard to give up any social life but nothing compares the the loving mother she was to us and therefore nothing can convince me to put her in a home. She wouldn’t have left my brother and I if we were sick and here in her little home she will stay. She will stay in her house til the day she goes to heaven. I know how you all feel watching your loved ones suffer through this all I can say is remember the beautiful person they were and that helps carry you though the hard days 🙏😥💜😌

Oh my gosh, I'm in tears here. I know this woman just loves her son soo much... The way she looks at him. She's very proud I'm sure to have raised such a kind young man. I have a son who's 21 and I look at him the same way, with pure pride. I am not struggling with this horrible illness however if I did or if I ever needed help in this way I know my children would do the same for me as Adam is doing for his mother. Also I will take care of my mother in her old age, iv always promised her that. I personally would never put her in a care home. I'll do whatever it takes to keep my mother with me. In no way am I putting others down who cannot take care if their parents in their old age, so do not misunderstand, this is only my personal choice. I realize not everyone can take care of their parents full time. It's ALOT of work, I know first hand how hard it is, as I've worked in nursing homes over the last 15 years. It's not easy. This is such a sweet story. It really tugged at my heartstrings ❤️.
