- Barbara’s story follows a person with dementia in their journey through hospital. The video helps people to understand how frightening and confusing it can be, and how little changes staff make can make a huge difference. Reproduced with the kind permission of GSTT.
June Bailey, what an extraordinary actor you are. The film is an important reality.
Oh Dear lord, I'd never want to end up like this.
I am so, so, extremely glad that I spent everyday with my mum.
After she fell downstairs and broke her neck, 10yrs prior to her passing, at the age of 91yrs. I became her full time carer,after her accident, she was then 81yrs.
It was my pleasure and privilege to have that time with her. I wouldn't have had it any other way.
She was my hero.
Mum suffered from Osteoporosis, this meant that her neck couldn't be fixed and she had to wear a collar for the remainder of her life.
This story made me cry and I felt such compassion towards this lady. I certainly wouldn't want to end up in a care home. It scares the living daylights out of me.
How some of these people get jobs as care workers are beyond me.
Its the minority that deeply affects the majority.
There should be cameras in every room, corridor, office, perimeter, grounds, etc.

Thank you June...I have to say, a year ago I fell sick & wound up in an ambulance & a couple weeks in the hospital & then a couple of weeks in a rehab facility...I didn't have dementia or anything like that, but nonetheless, it felt very overwhelming & so very confusing & upsetting to me...thank goodness I had very understanding nurses & physicians. I had some previous health issues, but now I have a lot more to deal with...I turned 75 this last Dec & it feels like my whole life has been turned upside down. Your confusion in the hospital, was overwhelmingly familiar to me, especially for the first week I was in the hospital...I suppose because I was so sick. Thank you for shining a light on this, for all of us elderly people, whether we are dealing with dementia or just seriously ill.

I'm really angry at this she was failed by everyone , her daughter included , dementia is a terrible illness with no cure and as i get older i fear getting dementia more than anything else, great cast for this sad but real story.
DON'T BE SO RIDICULOUS!! THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS FILM!! IT'S A (NHS) HOSPITAL TEACHING VIDEO, AIMED AT EDUCATION.... THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO DO EVERYTHING WRONG, OR WHAT' S THE POINT ? 🙄. These films help us enormously, as professionals or family, to comprehend a little of what these patients understand of the World around them. It can be difficult to best see how to communicate and help vulnerable people with dementia, This Video is a real eye opener and so well done

As someone who spends sick time in hospital l find when my illness is unbearable there’s nowhere more comforting than being in a buzzing busy safe hospital. It’s a lousy thing to be positive about but l feel if my mind is slipping l’d find hospital confusion extremely soothing. Some hospitals are far better than others. I find when lm in distress the loud explanations and asking if it’s ok to do this or that as to every tiny thing they are doing to you in that moment, distress makes you unable to calmly process and usually causes more confusion but lm always grateful! Pray for a life with good healthcare from beginning to end! It’swhat makes us civilized. Also, taking even tiny directives can completely disarm and strike terror in the older people even if they are mentally ok. Usually by that point in life they haven’t taken many directions from anyone in decades. What a powerful documentary.
I really don't understand what you are saying.
The conversation was about, care homes who not only employed evil, bullies. They had no idea that it was going on.
Either that, they chose to ignore these situations, also those employees who were creating hovok on our elderly.
These human beings, they are mothers, daughters, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandparents, etc, etc.
I am appalled at the amount of, so called, nurses, auxiliaries who get jobs within our NHS having gone through the examination, process. Still there are some individuals who fall through the cracks and create havok for their own sadistic gratification.
This word is becoming so sadistic.
Cultures who think that having a girl child is a curse.
Child abduction, child pornography?????
Sacrifice of children. Kidnapping children and taking and selling their organs for a substantial cost.
I'm at a lose, how in god's name can these things be happening in our societies, our towns, cities, all around the world.
My heart breaks endlessly for these children, that have lost their lives because of ancient beliefs and hatefulness.
Our world as it is now, can only be described as a pit of hell.
Believe me, and knowing what is in the Bible.
God our father, will only take so much. Then it's enialation.
Why try to create a world of beauty, when after trying for thousands and thousands of years, to have stability, compromise and love thy neighbour.
I'm probably not the only one to think, that all these atrocities are happening throughout the world. The sex trafficking of children. The people in prominent positions, who think they are untouchable.
How many more years do we have to put our new borns, our children, girls used as sex slaves.
Now we have this gender talk.
What is female, what is a male.
WTF????
Anyone with a brain has to defuse this crazy, nonsensical theory. Our young people are being brainwashed and made to believe that, Men can have babies and Women can be both, man and woman.
My god, this world is so warped.

My sister was a top journalist, for NBC, in NYC, for over 30 yrs. She got the Peabody award, in NY.She was a world traveler. She retired, at 64, to her home, in Ridgefield, CT. The changes , in her mind, came quickly. . She started forgetting things and losing her balance. She was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia, at Mount Sinai, in NYC. Her mind and speech, went quickly. Her balance, also. Round the clock care , diapers, etc,! 4 yrs in Ridgefield, CT, and 3 yrs, at The Assisted living facility, in Darien, CT. She couldnt walk or talk, at the end, and went blind.
