Slab Grafting Trichocereus Cactus

Using the "slab" method of grafting to attach a T. macrogonus "Big Mac" mid cut to a Trichocereus PC pachanoi.
Why do this? Two reasons.
Why sacrifice the growth of one cactus for another? I have tons of PC and they aren't really good for much other than being ornamental and even then they are common and not that desirable or expensive. So it's worth it to graft on a much more desirable named cactus clone to the already existing PC.
The second is instead of sticking the cut in soil and waiting for it to root, grafting the desired cut to another fast growing already established cactus will cause much quicker growth. The scion (the macrogonus) will use the roots of the root stock (the PC) to provide water and nutrients.
All trichocereus can be grafted to other trichocereus. You can even graft Trichocereus to a few other kinds of cactus and succulent like plants and vice versa.

I have a 10 inch 100% legit Ogun cutting being shipped to me as I type this. Just won it off EBay, he was asking $300 and I offered $150 and won! He had 4 cuttings, and it was the last and smallest one but still a steal IMO. The bigger ones sold at $300. Anyways, I've never grafted before but thinking to get the most out of this Spring\Summer in Colorado and I need to graft this Ogun to something with established roots. I'm thinking about buying a fat PC that's already rooted. What are my chances? My biggest worry is lining up the Scion right, and finding something to use for adequate pressure. My cut is a tip, would do regular tip graft not slab. Option #2 is put on own roots, hope they're ready for Summer. Or #3 sell for $300 on FB LOL..

You can do both. Cut off a small piece from the main chunk and do an areole/slab. Let the rest root on its own.

The odds of you having got a legit ogun cutting off eBay are slim, very very slim. If it didn't come from ss I would assume it's a look alike.

I'm not grafting PC to PC. The slab is T. macro. The clone is called "Big Mac"

I have an two headed bridgesii and an 12 pachanot and I want to graft an scion of the pachanot onto the bridgesii. Then graft an scion off the bridgesii onto the pachanot.

Say you have a rare cacti but it grows slow, you can graft it to a faster growing cacti and use its roots to make the slower one grow faster.
Or if you are given a cutting of something rare you can cut it up into pieces and graft them. Making many clones of the plant that grow fast.

@@endtoeknee8499 you mean a vertical graft along the areoles on the side? Yeah that's just purely aesthetic. Slab grafts like the ones I'm doing are more stable and likely to succeed.

You come off a little bit as a cactus snob on the pc subject. The fact of the matter is, there are tons of really cool plants that get lumped into the "pc" category. "Saw tooth profile? Short spines? Yup its a pc". That isn't enough to really idenfity the plant when no one actually knows what pc is. Have some "pc" growing that unaged, 6inches will knock even a vets socks off. Pachonot also really isn't a real thing. It's just a pachanoi bro.

True. Nobody knows what PC is. But we know enough about them to call them distinct. We know where the original was collected in Bolivia. And you can easily tell a PC apart from other Trichocerus clones.
They're cool as ornamental plants. And old plants can be active. But nowhere near the plants raised for ceremony for centuries. PC was not. It was marketed as an ornamental plant. And it's a very nice one. But easy to tell apart from other Trichocerus clones.
