    I did the opposite. I went 15/39 just because I have to ride hwy to get to trails. Iam @ 5600 rpm @60mph . I think it does great on the logging roads I ride and also some single track woods. Just keep it in 1st and it does it all. JMO glad you are liking the bike they are fun.

      That would be cool to try a bike geared like yours to compare. Yeah if I was riding highway a lot id probably just get another bike, ive had it over 80 and the bike starts getting really unstable. 65 aint too bad. Thats going to be my excuse to buy a MT09 hahaha! The roads to most my riding areas are 45mph or less and the areas with hywy are like 5 miles of 65mph. Mobbing around town and trails the bike just feels more peppy and playful with the 13/42. I was averaging about 65mpg before the gear change, Im curious how much that'll change. Either way this bike is so much fun!

    So I just bought a 2023 klx300 like a month ago and I’m brand new to bikes….I went out riding yesterday with my dad and I rode pavement, dirt road, then pretty much steep single track. The bike is stock and seems to handle everything great until you get onto steep off-road terrain. I was going up a hill in first and was going kinda slow and the bike bogged out in first. I am pretty sure I need a regear to lower gears and open the bikes air intake and exhaust then a fuel tune. I will primarily be riding steep off road but I still want the bike to be able to get around on the highway (not interstate) at like 60-65.
    Any input and advise would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you for the video and thanks to everyone in the community of klx300’s
    I appreciate everyone!

    Thanks for posting and sharing. I just got a new klx300 and suspect I'll go for similar gearing before my stock chain wears much.

      This gearing works out pretty good for me. I can still hit 65 70 for short distances on the highway. Comfortable at 50mph in town. 2nd and 3rd gear are more usable offroad for sure. 3rd is still a little high at times but its a dual sport. If I dropped the gears too low to better suit offroad id just get a different bike.

    Did you have issues with speed wobbles before getting the wheels balanced? My front end takes control over 65mph. Gets sketchy

    • @billingsfmx
      @billingsfmx  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the speed wobbles are normal with any dual sport over 65, they are light, have knobby tires, lots of squishy suspension, no steering stabilizer, etc. Ive had the bike over 80mph with the stock tires for brief moments. Not sure my new gearing would go that fast, nor would I want to with the new tires. I didnt ride the bike with new tires before balancing. Balancing helps more so with tire hop and vibrations. The wobbles is mainly due to offroad tires and knobs. Im sure if you put supermoto street tires and stiffened /lowered tue suspension it would help.

    • @billingsfmx
      @billingsfmx  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can hit over 70 with my new set up but only have a few short 65mph highway areas to get to riding spots. Im sure balancing my tires help smooth out that ride at all speeds though. Depending on your bikes set up, balancing the tires may help slightly, but like I said tire choice and suspension would help the most.

    13/42 didn't change much for me. I'm 80% off road.

    • @billingsfmx
      @billingsfmx  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I agree its not a huge change. Im like 30% offroad. It definitely made 2nd and 3rd gear more usable for me in the dirt. If I was 80% offroad id definitely get a larger chain and rear sprocket. I need to be able to ride highway speeds to get to some of my riding areas so this is a good gear ratio for me.

    • @frankmiller7435
      @frankmiller7435 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Chadventureee I read where another rider went 13/43 and still used the same chain and it made a big difference. I may try that. I would love to go to a Protaper bar and some hand guards but there are so many choices in protaper and calling them is just a waste of time.

    • @billingsfmx
      @billingsfmx  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will love them! So much better offroad than the stockers. Still plenty good on the road after they break in. They have a very stiff sidewall, took me a bit longer than normal to install them, just make sure you have a valve puller, 3 tire levers, and some sort of lube. I also balanced them with spoke weighs to give a better ride.

    Did the gearing change mess with the Speedometer?

    • @billingsfmx
      @billingsfmx  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont think changing the gearing altered what the speedometer is reading from stock since the speedo sensor is in the front wheel. Only changing the tire or wheel size would change that. Changing gearing on bikes that have an internal speed sensor in the transmisson would alter the speedometer.

    I ride a lot of steep terrain with big rocks, and it's just killing me to have to keep dropping down to first.
