I think your conclusion is incomplete unless you take into consideration the reasons (political, social, historical) for the rise of cancel culture and intolerance. In my opinion, sometimes such banning is justifiable.
Here there are some nuances to consider, which I don't see frequently posed:
      1) Speech and any form of expression has consequences.
      2) Not everyone has the same power, opportunities, tools to influence other people.
      3) Speech is not "just speech"; it creates discourses and jusfications for executing actions.
      4) Speech can be a form of oppression to some historically oppressed people.
      5) The tolerance towards injustice and impunity has its limits.
      6) Emotions are a part of human nature, and not everything can be reduced to "facts and logics".
      Kind regards!

    • @anattasunnata3498
      @anattasunnata3498 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@rylanmcneely2243 While I agree, at least in principle, in actuality things are far more complicated. Trump is the best example of that: his position of power (political, economical, social, etc.) makes him a very influent person, which can affect how millions around the world act. His power of influence does not arise from having "better speech" than others, but by exploiting the weeknesses of human emotions and rationality.
I think that there are some moments in history where movements reactive moments are inevitable and a consequence of the negligences of the people (and institutions) of the past. Instead of pointing fingers to one another, I suggest we should strive to get the biggest perspective possible, and from it, propose solutions that could uproot the social, economical, and political conditions that gave rise in the first place to those reactive movements.
      Kind regards!

Believing what's said or not Joe is pretty relatable. Many of the people he invites onto his show are very controversial though. The fact that Joe is very good at being neutral and looking for the better side of people makes him a magnet for people who might usually disagree on many subjects.
It's kind of the polar opposite to how most political/religious/anti-religious/academic discussion works online and breaks through the agenda by brining people together for discussion pushing towards compromise.

@@wconniff878 Well. Let's unpack it.. We are entering an interglacial period, The Sun, above all else, does drive our climate as the atmosphere and Like responds to it in kind... Yes, CO2 does act as an insulator, Sure, No refuting that ...But,,, So does Water vapor
      Methane Ozone Nitrous oxide
Chlorofluorocarbon, Dust, and other Pollutants caused by trees, animals and humans..PLUS the use of fossil fuels and global activities on an industrial sale..CO2 on its own doesn't always equate to higher temps as the Younger dryas era was a very carbon rich rime just before said ice age caused by de-glaciation resulting in the massive Methane release coupled with an increased sun activity that is inline with the historic 11,500 year sun cycle driving the global temperatures down past the freezing point in a matter of decades....That event was a "Return to Normal" ...So, We are helping a natural cycle along by releasing the carbon, water vapor, Methane, Nitrous oxide Ozone and Dust along with carbon, for sure but,..whoever believes we can stop or slow a natural event in the next 30-200 years, has surely overlooked the last 4.5 billion years of Earths history. Hurricanes Are getting weaker, Just more frequent as expected during the warming. We actually only have 140 years to go by as far as intensity. So far the 1980s to present only hold 4 of the top 10 . 2-3-7&9 respectively. .Im pretty sure the storms that killed tens of thousands in the 1600-1700's weren't exactly weak. So, as the dressings are strewn about the room and it appears as if a Lack of information was presented. Thus, Alex wasn't exactly spouting "Misinformation" its just that some folks, are simply Misinformed and need more information to study and place in context..

The Spotify deal was their way of trying to get a handle on Joe and reign him in. It was such an obvious inroad to controlling him. That’s why I could not fathom him taking a deal where they hold the right to publish an episode of his or not. He has the freedom to create any episode he wants. And the company retains the right to simply publish or not any episode they see fit. That’s how licensing deals work. So when Eric says that there will come a day when they try and put an end to his influence that situation is already in play. When they choose to pull that trigger Joe will be hamstrung. Because his deal with Spotify is exclusive so he will legally under his contract not be allowed to air his show anywhere else. Effectively ending it. Once the exclusivity clause goes into effect all the pieces will be in play.

Spotify does not in any way OWN Joe's show nor the rights to his episodes/broadcasts, not at all. They are only one thing for the JRE, a platform. Joe made that clear. He is not stupid. Joe's show is 100% HIS. Think of him signing a contract to perform on a stage at Ceasars in Las Vegas...a 3 year contract to perform 5 times per week. Joe's ACT and previous acts ( say on video ) are all his. He can leave anytime and take his act and videos with him....contract ended. Or he could perform the entire three years and all the way his performances are HIS. But if people want to watch his performances, they must go to the one stage ( platform ) at Ceasars. And after the 3 years, he can choose to leave and YEP, with his act still HIS and a thousand + previous acts of his saved to HIS hard drive in HIS suitcase in HIS hand...as he walks out the door of Ceasars at the 3 year mark if he so chooses to do.
