- Gundam Battle Operation 2 is a free-to-play competitive online multiplayer game set in the Gundam universe available for PS4 & PS5. But just because it's free does it mean you should play it? Heard about that recently, been playing it on PS4 since its western release. Been playing as my PvP alternative to COD and BF. Not sure when it will happen, but I could see Code Fairy make it to PC as well.

Been playing this almost every day for like 2 years. I am a Gundam franchise super fan, though, so I can definitely say that this is a good one for Gundam fans.

As a veteran who played the first game for years and now having played this one since release I'd say in all honesty it's hard to recommend. There's a fantastic game here but unfortunately it's buried beneath a pile of issues. The game is definitely a huge step above the first game. Everything bad about this game was almost 5 times worse in the first one. The stun meta however persists from the first game which really hampers it's potential and the devs refusal to buff other weapons makes the stun into melee meta the ever dominant force in the game. The constant connection issues, people rage quitting and team attacking. The harsh punishing penalty system that does not discriminate any type of disconnect and treats it all as a rage quit.
Some MS which vastly outperform others while they preach balance in the game, the saturated pool of weapons especially in the two star category. MS and weapons staying far too long in the lottery pool. The game is not pay to win but it most certainly has very predatory gacha mechanics. The Rating system just fails on every level. Why have a system of matchmaking that uses a flat number that is not indicative of skill when the game tracks performance statistics across the multiple modes of play? Why not use those stats to matchmake instead? This way you'll be not sortied with garbage teams as often. Improve the quick chat communication as it's either largely ignored or blatantly missed by blind players.
I don't want to sound like I'm shitting on the game, I played the first one for years and I've religiously played this one. I love the style and mechanics of the game but my god all the issues it has really hampers the experience. I just want to be brutally honest for new players on what to expect. I'd honestly give this game a 4.5/10. As I said there's potential for an amazing game but it's held back by issues the devs refuse to address and suffers from gacha greed. A great game for Universal Century fans but be ware of toxic players and all sorts of connection issues. Take this game with a grain of salt and maybe only play a few matches per day.
That's a perfectly honest opinion of the game which touches on all the issues that plague GBO2. For a casual player that may just enjoy Gundam and want to play a few matches to see what it's all about I think it's ok, especially if you play Code Fairy so as not to deal with online shenanigans. But for the more competitive players they really do need to address a lot of these complaints that, like you say, have been around and gotten worse since the original game.
I login, do my dailies and try not to worry anymore which isn't the best attitude to have but at this point and with Bandai Namco looking towards their newer releases I don't think we'll get any improvements unless a new GBO comes out.
I was first hyped for this to release on steam but now I kinda disappointed
I also heard from other players that it also paid to win and stuff in game player had issues with some of the mobile suit stats like the Jesta when they are suppose to be elite that can hold their own against something op like a gundam
and the stuns because of melees also would be annoying and knowing it from experiences with other games wouldn’t like it
Ngl I never played this yet if they just resolve the issues and just stop lazing around maybe it be more than a cash and grab game
@@animatoraoi3672 The game is not pay to win but the predatory tactics of the gacha mechanics give a false image of buy tokens and get an amazing MS that you can win with! Meanwhile you can face skilled players who do not buy tokens and use obsolete mobile suits to clown on others.
Alo exp is a snails pace to the point that promotion feels like a chore

I guess what make different is the upgrades that suits has done, its make huge impact the way ms can handle
For the example i got full upgrades in my reGz custom lv 2, i got 80% win ratio because of that upgrades, and place most suitable custom parts for me

Is there an offline, arcade like mode to play against cpu?
@@ashen6579 not in gbo2, I'm not sure if you *need* internet to play but the only non multiplayer option you have are tutorials and the battle simulator, which is only 3 missions. Oh, and free practice I guess you could play against AI, but meh.
They DO have singleplayer games that play just like gbo2 (as I'm told, never played them myself) such as Code Fairy. Try looking that up and what else they have cus idk

5:30 it should be mentioned that your teams base also auto regens your suits hp and part dmg which procts when you hold still next to it. However, if its destroyed the base no longer heals you
1. Mobile suits.
2. Space missions.
Cons.
1.Janky controls even after configuring then to your play style.
2. Configuring doesn't matter when actions are delayed do to lag... Same goes for dodging.
3. Hit box, Lag. Shots that miss you still hit you on four bar connections. This applies to tackles and melee attacks as well. Dodges will be delayed on your side. It may looked like you dodged but you didn't...( EVEN WHEN YOU DID)
4. Meta-types
Like newtypes only they don't have special abilities and just plays the meta which are Ms that are good at stunning the enemy to death.
This is a team game, their is no I in team you can't handle more than one MS, especially if there using meta, you might get lucky, chances are you won't.
5. Team based game
This game heavily depends on teamwork
Most players dont have that, I've been playing for years, however from what I understand quick match and rated are pretty cancerous as they contain the same about of people who deem themselves ace pilots but play like ass...
Often going off alone pretending their the red comet, or commanding the team with chat also while not doing much themselves, they are useless.
6. No in game chat...
But based on the messages I get on PSN from playing this game win or lose, I see no reason why anyone would enjoy whiny teammates on the mike...
Unless you know multiple people and not just randoms, other chat systems would work but with randoms it will only ruin your day.
7. No servers just peer to peer system.
A good way to disconnect and earn penalties when you DIDN'T disconnect. P2P is also to blame for so much lag even on a four bar connections, it's even worse with PS5.
8. Friendly-fire-types
Like newtypes, but focus only on friendly fire especially if your playing with a random that doesn't like anything you do... Even if your helping the best you can.
9. Gatcha machine.
Use it to get MS but instead gives you a weapon for an Ms you don't have... Banner Ms even when guaranteed also still do not drop. I've heard people use money to get more tokens only to bearly get anything good...
Making it a waste of time.
10. Ground missions meta.
Shot weapon at or near MS, = stunned, now times that with five other or even two enemy units who do the same thing... That toppled with the fact of no teamwork and your having a bad time. Space is easy to me, makes the meta harder to use...
11. Maps
The same three maps been rotated over and over, old maps never glanced at again unless it's custom match.
12. Brawl match.
A battle royal mode without the fun considered your Ms can only handle one enemy at a time and most just go for the one with most points making it just a rotation.

Gacha is nothing but a lie. The last special where it was "guaranteed" every MS was from the latest lineup, every godddamn MS I got from it was either a dupe or the same but different level version of MS I had since 3 years ago. Latest lineup my left testicle.
So just like all other supply drops...every single pull is literally guaranteed to be nothing but TRASH.
WORSE than RNG
Game could be a contender for some serious competition if the netcode and balance were a bit more on point. Knockdown needs a heavy duration nerf. Otherwise the gameplay is addicting AF but hella hard learning curve. A bit issue for new players is that the quick matches are generally pub stomps by higher level players using the OP suits and have weapon attack combos down to muscle memory.
I'm a huge fan of giant Mechs in general. Some of you maybe too young to know about Armored Core, but that was the best Mech Sim game and still is in many ways. However, when I played MSGBO2 I realized the game felt more realistic than even Armored Core, and that's saying a lot. You can literally feel the weight of your mobile suit when you pilot it. You can feel the size when you get out to capture points or repair your suit. Its because of MSGBO2 that I understand why insects stay still when we humans are close by. You really feel the scale when in close contact with an enemy Mobile Suit. I really hope this game gets improved on with the graphics especially in the character models. The Mobile Suits look and sound great, the character models feel lack luster. Overall, this game is the best Players vs Players Mech Game ever.
God I need a new armored core! Apparently Fromsoft have one in the oven might get a trailer by Christmas. Best Mech franchise ever.

Grew up watching my brother play armored core, I later became a Raven because of that, yet even Armored core feels faster than GBO2.

Exactly! There's a lot more strategy involved from team composition to tactics out on the battlefield, but pulling off a hard fought win makes learning and adapting to it all that much more rewarding.

i would prefer gundam versus than this, because all i seek is fun, not being too realistic.
As a new player I usually look at the community first. So far I haven’t found much of one where I can talk to other players.
There are a few Discord groups that are worth looking for along with the GBO2 Reddit community that is quite active. I would also check out some streamers on Twitch and TH-cam who play as they also have communities that are fairly active and always happy to have more people interested in the game.
For example search for BeefandMilk on Twitch, he's a great guy who plays and often does community custom matches but has a excellent discord group that has people from all over the world talking about the game, gunpla and other Gundam related stuff.
Play rated 650 as support. It'll tell you all you need to know.

feels like every online game i play people either dont use mics, play music through their mics, be unmuted and be eating and stuff but dont actually communicate, are toxic shit talkers who will throw matches just to grief, or are young children and annoying af cause they dont know how not to be. i feel like alot of players worth talking to dont talk in game chat because of those reasons. im confident alot of people are sitting in voice parties alone just to not hear randoms due to such experiences. r6 siege for example has a god awful community for those reasons
Make friends, create party chat, joined game group… find match as a group with game chat and bang, problem solve
It's just kind of slow for me. I guess it's supposed to be more of a simulator but Gundam fights are still fast paced. I don't want it to be another Maxi boost but I wouldn't mind a good mix of this and that.
Not gonna lie. This looks pretty fun, though I've been stomped in every Gundam game I've ever played.
It can be pretty demoralising getting absolutely steamrolled, but if you can stick with it and get used to the mechanics there's a great deal of fun to have.
There's a single player DLC that is a worth looking into that acts like a story mode complete with anime cutscenes, shame it isn't free as it does a good job explaining the game without worrying other players.

This is more skill based I mean it feels good to play and even really common units can do decently.
cool down times for weapon switching is so bad, and when you get toppled, the get up animation is exaggeratedly slow. Weapon switching isn't instantly fast because you have to tap like twitch to rotate to your next weapon ON TOP OF experiencing a wait time each rotate. I love this game overall but these things kill it,...
You should but what about the penalty system that is still in game
It can be quite annoying from what I've seen. Personally I've not had any issues or penalties so I'm quite lucky, but considering how easy it is to acquire due to disconnecting during a match through a bad connection or the servers going bad it's not great.
As long as you have a good speed, stable connection and don't manually quit out of matches you should be fine.
This is probably the best free mech based game
It's a little too slow for me. I like the newer Gundam series. The old ones are good. I like watching them. But I wouldn't play a game with those suits.
Could we make rank party with our own friend?
You can, though the requirements for joining parties is quite unknown. As long as all players are the same rank and close to each other's point value along with a good connection of 3 bars or higher, you should be able to play rank together.
It's not guaranteed however and can be a pain to sort out and get working.

Game is fun with friends, but insanely fucking broken. Lobbies that are 550 cost or higher devolve into the same 5 meta suits every match, with the same cheap tactics employed in most random lobbies. Also it needs dedicated servers ffs

With all due respect. No. And by "No" I mean "Hell no". Players are more toxic than games like COD:WZ, Fortnite, and even Xenoverse 2. The gameplay is misleading as 9/10 battles are you begging teammate to save you and you get bullied by the enemy. Teammates are genuinely out to kill you just as much as the enemy is and if you get that one in a million player who carries, supports, and is friendly. You'll never be seeing them again. The other players are often out for themselves so you're on you own in a 1v2 or 1v5 and because the devs haven't made getting to a certain rank or level is much of a milestone outside of tokens for more repeats and tickets for suits you likely have already, people can and will Smurf(Making a new ACC and using it to beat up on newbies like its Freshman Friday while also soaking up free tokens that are used to start new players off on the gacha system.) Worst of all is the connection. Dodge all you want, you'll still take damage. I-Frames are a lie in this game, hit boxes are wonky af, and the peer to peer connection makes it even worse. What's even worse is that MS are built to stunlock and stop you from being able to play. Suits locked behind a pay wall sometimes. Because the gacha system is programmed to screw everyone out of their money, you'll spend on a full step up and get a lackluster MS or wonder why you went for it so hard. Please DO NOT play this game or encourage others to play. At the very least don't spend money on it. If w show our disdain then maybe they'll fix or make a third game that is actually good and doesn't hide flaws behind graphics, a large roster, and flashy ads. Because if the put as much effort into making it good then I wouldn't have to bash one of my favorite Japanese franchises.

I pretty much see all the same issues as well....not just awful connectivity and matchmaking. A nearly full lobby could potentially wait 10-15 minutes or more just waiting ONE more player to join! Even worse....if someone goes afc even after the lobby does fill. And the bloke who stepped away doesn't ready up, the match is cancelled and we're back to matchmaking for another eternity.
I'm also not really digging the fluidity of the combat mechanics. Stun-lock/gank meta for days....smh
And the Mobile suit movement overall is like they decided to take the simulator route and turned it up to 11. As a result we ended up with mobile suits not being so mobile. No where near how they are depicted on their respective OVAs. I don't mind mechs feeling heavy. I just don't care for restrictive measures cramping the experience in the name of " balance" the rng and loot system.......hell naw . I've said enough 💯

Lets be honest. Theres never been a perfect gundam game. Not this, not evolution, not unicorn(ps3).
The only epic game was mobile suit gundam online with its 51 vs 51 fights.
But there has been better than this garbage.

I wouldn't recommend this game if you're a legitimate gamer. The cheaters have overrun it and other players are making excuses for them. I want BO3 and hopefully it's f2p and this game can continue its decline and race to corrupted competition.
