  • Here are South Africa biggest cities, remember, we have selected only cities with over a million of population.
Formally, the republic of South Africa, it is a country in the south-most of Africa, bordered by Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and the coastline: which is covered in the west by the Atlantic Ocean and to the south and southeast by the Indian Ocean. South Africa covers a total area of over 1.2 million square kilometers, making it roughly twice the size of France and the 9th largest country in Africa. South Africa is the second largest economy power-house of Africa, being the only country in Africa with highest of both GDP and per capita GDP. The total population of South Africa is around 60 Million, with the Gauteng province holding most of its population.
This country is only country in the world with a total of three capital cities: Pretoria, Bloemfontein, and Cape Town, serving as the executive, judicial, and legislative capitals respectively.
    without further ado,
    Number 1
    the City of Cape Town,
also known as The Mother City
It is a Legislative capital of South Africa and capital of Western Cape province, Cape Town is a port city on South Africa’s southwest coast, originated in 1652.
Cape Town is known for it's world renowned majestic table mountain and the notorious prison that once held political prisoners during apartheid era including the iconic Nelson Mandela: Robben Islands, accessible by boat: which is now turned into a museum.
Geography, Demography and Climate of cape town
Cape Town covers an area of 400 km² with total population of 3,500,000 people, as estimated in 2021. The average highest temperature is 21°C in summer, and the lows of 13°C in winter, but temperatures are cooler on the coast and on the mountain slopes.
    Number 2
Johannesburg: also known as, the City of Gold
Johannesburg or jozi, as affectionately called by locals, is located in Gauteng province, it is the commercial and financial heart of South Africa and it is the most popular and biggest city in South Africa. The city of Johannesburg was founded in 1886, following the discovery of gold in that area.
Jozi, is well known for it's first world cities infrastructure, with relatively low cost of living.

Bloem is super quite the last few years, economy also reducing and not growing. I moved away from there to JHB for a better job, some of my friends there do online programming jobs for other countries. I would love again to move to RU. Some of our Afrikaner farmers are in the southern parts of RU where some moved and some received asylum.

@@obakengtaje1759NO No. Mthatha is just our old dirty town. We could never put it on this list. It's a big town, which could easily be developed into a city and possibly a metro with 50 years of intensive investment and development but the infrastructure is some of the worst in the country of any town irrespective of size.

This is a tourist brochure. Nothing here tells you about these places...narrated by someone from another ex colony. Basically the cities are massive urban slums with pockets of walled preserves for elites, ex pats and tourists. The rural areas are lovely with boutique highlights for tourists and urban wealthy visitors and dying towns with no jobs.

No its not. It's port Elizabeth, changing the names aren't going to change anything. We can't change history all we can do is move on for the better. We're wasting so much money on the name changing it's sad. We can use that money to build homes but the president cares more about feelings than the well being of the black population, sad.

So you haven't even bothered to learn to pronounce Gqeberha??? You think just mentioning that PE was renamed to a local language is enough? Reminds one of apartheid era when white people never bothered to memorise black people's names. And this is 2022, not 1965.
On another issue, there are famous people who were born in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, etc, but you don't bother to mention even one. Why did you make an exception with Elon Musk from Pretoria and Tolkien from Bloem??? What about the others representing the demographics of SA?®®®
