Man I have been a fabricator for 20+ years. And this list still helps. Great list and advice. Your metal "compass" are Dividers, also look at air nibbler.
Excellent !! Hopefully you will share these type of gems every so often. Keep up the incredibly generous videos for us less gifted folks. Thanks again, Jim
Hey Mr Packard Thanks for your feedback! We’re excited to be working on our first online metal shaping course. It will be highly interactive with me and is designed to fast-track skills-something I wish I had 20 years ago! If you think this would be valuable for you, drop us an email at info@bennettscustoms.com.au, and we’ll add you to the waitlist. Cheers, Jordan
Great list! Something I find invaluable is Rotabroach cutters for my drill press instead of drill bits or hole saws. I was amazed at how much cleaner and more precise the holes were using them, especially for larger holes.
Thank you for your sharing all your knowledge. The biggest and most important thing is to pass on the art to the next generation. Having the mind set to think outside the box and create tools and solve problems. I only wish I had the skill, tools, and knowledge 40 years ago. I did find solutions, but they were much more labor intensive. I restored a 1957 1 ton 4x4 GMC truck with a 9' fender side bed. It had a very hard life but had little to no rust. The iconic front fenders that flow around the headlights had been bludgeoned with a welding chipping hammer 🔨 by an angry wife, not mine. The right side door skin had been crushed in by a steel post, and the owner had filled it with at least two gallons of cheap filler, IE BONDO. Without an English wheel or power hammer, I managed to re skin the compound convext shaped door.
Excellent walk through of the "must haves" in the shop! After watching you and Karl I started adding tools to my arsenal that have been super valuable (even for the simple backyard stuff I am trying)! Super stoked for the new shop and look forward to the next great adventures! Go Bennetts Customs, keep moving forward!
Great video Jordan, really enjoy your videos especially since your just down the road from me. I’ve learnt a lot from both you and Karl so thanks for sharing your knowledge mate
Well G'day mate, I've been doing this decades, and I'm happy to learn all the time, this list is totally valid for me, have a great one and thanks for sharing buddy, best wishes from merry old England

Love the tips have seen some fantstic little jigs for adding rolled edges made by Dif from Rat Rods of Africa holds round bar to the edge of sheet metal in consistent fit up. Also a blank of flat stock for drilling holesaw over an existing hole. This stock has the series of holes for each size cutter yhat you clamp over the sheet using it as a holesaw guide.

Great selection and advice Jordan but for those starting out be warned it is an addiction ! lol, I've lost count years ago of the tools and machinery either bought or made.... some new, some used and with me least theirs always more added to the bucket list. You are right about garage sales, second hand shops or even MP / GT its amazing what you come across at the right price if your persistant. Cheers Greg

Cracking video for someone like me, dabbling in metalwork as part of my surface finishing business. Occured to me that I've seen you use a needle scaler before. I can't believe how good and fast they are for knocking heavy rust scabs off steel, for example, but also seen you use it to patina fresh welds to look like the surrounding aged steel. Just another tool that doesn't cost the earth but really useful to in the arsenal.

I’ve worked in industry since 1978. Ship yards, auto shops, power plants, chemical plants, foundry, die casting, and bunches others I can’t think of right now. - I still have good vision in both eyes - I still have good hearing in both ears - I still have 10 fingers and 10 toes - at my last spirometer test or Spirogram the tester commented on my lung capacity being one of the best she has seen in guys my age and even younger. All this to say USE PPE! Your older self will thank you.
I want to say thank you for sharing, I really enjoyed your channel, I wish you were closer to me so I can invite you over for some coffee and talk about metal shaping. Happy Thanksgiving
Yep, don’t cut wire, especially hardened wire with your snips. Not made for that and will be forever ruined. Unless you need a pair of snips with a built in wire stripper that will leave burrs when you cut sheet metal with them.

I Couldn't agree more! I have bought some of my favorite tools at garage sales, or farm auctions. Great video for us all!
The non-compass tool I've always referred to as dividers, great list. Thanks for the video !

Nice list of stuff man. Love your channel
This is my official invite for a Bennetts custom sleepover 😂 my shark needs some work
Thanks for the great tips
What about a vid on building your own sheet metal based, not cast bronze, Duvall or Hallock style windshield? I recall you and Karl were both down.
Thank you 👍
Clecos are a main tool still. Better than superglue, cuz they are reusable 😂
Solid recommendations , nice video
Thank you!
Great video! Greetings from Germany!
3:45 I think they are called dividers.
They are called dividers.
