Many years ago I was reading a fabrication "how to" book and they would cut the sanding disks edges with triangle shaped cuts very similar to this to soften the edges and get nicer sanding. It's great that these techniques haven't been lost, but shared on TH-cam so everyone can benefit. I had completely forgotten about this technique. 🙂
Hey Kevin We’re excited to be working on our first online metal shaping course. It will be highly interactive with me and is designed to fast-track skills-something I wish I had 20 years ago! If you think this would be valuable for you, drop us an email at info@bennettscustoms.com.au, and we’ll add you to the waitlist. Cheers, Jordan
I have been cutting down discs for years. Saves $ cut a 7 inch disc down until there is no grit on it. Started cutting a hex shape, then a square, then back to a hex.

First time I saw you do the square disc trick I tried it on one of my sculptures...game changer! Wish I could go back and use this technique on my hot rod! Another engaging and informative production! Question, when you're using the sander (DA) do you keep it on orbital (wonky) mode or straight spin? Josh in the kitchen, Drink! Go Bennetts Customs, keep moving forward!
Looking forward to the next installment on the Flyer and the square roloc's do work well and you get a bit more value by re using them 2-3 times. Cheers Greg

The square cut disc's do work great. Good video. Question; at 13:14 in this video in the background is what looks to be a very large wheel of nylon or other plastic, what is that for? I'm always looking for other tools to make for my home shop, thanks
Have you ever just used a fillet grinder flap disk? They make both a specific tool for it and flap dosk for your grinder designed to grind into corners to smooth fillet welds.
Folks, learn to tig silicon bronze, clean area with wire wheel / acetone. No flux needed. In the maintenance and repair biz often repairs considered impossible are quickly completed...
Hi Jordan I noticed you use a die grinder, your sanding disc would last a lot longer if you change to a roll lock sander like the trade tools 3” sander less than 100 bucks
Yes it does the same job as a flux would do. A tig welder and silicon bronze rod works with no flux. The gas keeps the oxidation away, the arc melts it to make it flow.
I'll be 'that guy'! 😂 That's not strictly speaking a weld as the parent metals aren't fused with the filler. It's a braze. Nothing wrong with it though in the right circumstances.

Yes I’ve used that one several times too! Works really well!
Nije loša tehnika za one koji nemaju pojma o brušenju.
I really appreciate the time and effort it takes to make these video's, for our benefit🤩
Glad you like them!

Great tip on using the needle scaler to change the look of the finished pieces
Thanks for watching!

i remeber when Jasin showed that trick on insta years ago. i immediately went into the grinding room and trimmed a few rolocs and was blown away.
I run 3" on 2" backer.
Will have to try this square thing.
Thank you.
I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos! 👍👍

Mines only a straight style one. If I had the options I’d use straight for sure.
You are very intelligent and very creative brother, I will use your tips in my creations, I am Brazilian.
Great to hear! That’s all we want for everyone to get creative!
Really enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing.
A 20mm belt sander with cubitron belts - the dogs danglies. Thanks for the "cut it square" tip - I'm gonna try it.
Very useful, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Thanks Don! Right back at you!
Another great video, thanks.

Exactly right!
This is a good one
I've learned so much from TH-cam i should open up my own shop 😮

Good spot! The a huge piece of poly. Use it a lot with shaping and Planishing. Need to make a table for it still.
Genius !!!
Wow as a high pressure pipe welder in the navy i could contour a 7018 pipe weld with a 2" GRINDING DISK better in prep for an X-ray !
Thank you

Yes they work well. Also very expensive!

Keeps the used sanding discs in an ice cream container … sounds like an excuse to buy ice cream. You’re an enabler!
Hahahah
Those that live in glass boxes

I’ve tried. Just feel they never have enough guts in them.
Hi Jordan. When welding with bronze. Does the gas in the tig cup act as a flux? I hope my question isn’t too stupid!
Great question- it’s not similar to you normal brazing rod you’d use with oxy/acc welding, the cup allows the gas to sit and cover.
Yes it does the same job as a flux would do. A tig welder and silicon bronze rod works with no flux. The gas keeps the oxidation away, the arc melts it to make it flow.
Great Tips. Thanks.

Love the tip have you ever tried 5or6 sided discs 🤔🍻
Have! You get a similar result too. Sometimes a hexagon then 4 sides to get more life from the disc
You need "Curved Flap Discs" for the inside corners.
They do work well too!
How about worn 3in on 2in backing pad?
Wray cuts them into a hexagon
So, why not just cut 20 (or so) edge slits on a round disk and use that?
It will flex more just like the square one does.
Try cutting it into a hex, you will have 6 points instead of 4
You should do a collaboration with the TH-cam channel sleeperdude 88. He has a 1927 model t he is working on.
use a pferd polifan as well for blending, thank me later.
A good welder doesn't worry about sanding or grinding
* * * * *
You talk for twenty-five minutes when you could say the same thing in five minutes what a wind bag
Why would you want to blend. Unless ya weld is serious pigeon shit
You waist time & energy
