    Is there a way to also set the cut in pressure ? Or is it non adjustable?

    My switch has on & off positions. IR T30 model 2340 L5. When the switch is off it still runs. When the switch is on it runs. It went to 175+ and was still running. Shouldn’t it stop if the switch is in the off position? Guessing the pressure switch is shot…….? Got this at an auction.

      Possibly shot or the springs are so cranked down that the contacts can’t disengage. Try loosening both springs’ nuts until there’s only a tiny bit of compression (just enough to prevent them from rattling around) and then see if the cutoff lever works.

    I’ve got the opposite problem. It’s not shutting off till about 160. I’m concerned I’m gonna break something.

      Try loosening the nut. If it gets so loose the spring is jiggling around, or the nut comes off, and it still won’t turn off at lower pressures, then you probably have a damaged pressure switch.

    Thank you for the incredibly quick reply!! Wow! Not sure what the spring nuts are but I’ll take it apart and look. I’m sure the guy had it all fouled up judging by the way the power cord was wired……..

    Thanks for the video. I just bought the larger 80 gallon 175 psi machine. I want to turn it down from 175 to 150. My theory is the compressor will last longer as it will undergo less stress. I'm just a home shop and don't need all the air capacity I bought but gives me more flexibility if I do need more later on. Thanks for the video. Saved me $40 from replacing the switch.

      I sold IR compressor for years and you are actually incorrect! starting up on a compressor is one of the hardest things on the compressor. It should be and 175! they wider the start stop gap the better. The compressor is under a stead load when running and cycles less there for less stress on the motor and compressor head.

    I just did this with mine same compressor. Put a sharpie mark on 12 o’clock turned it 1/4 turn. Shutting off shy of 130 kept making small adjustments the screw would be right back to 3 o’clock each time. And still turns on around 90 psi. Oh well 10 psi more than I had.

    Thank you for the video.
    I had an issue where the pressure switch wouldn't close the circuit because the cover screw not being installed allowed the upper contact housing to lift up allowing about 2-3mm gap between the contacts.

    Hi maybe you guys could help me out. I have a 60 gallon Ingersoll rand it runs for a couple cycles then the electric motor over heats and sends it into protect mode. Anyone with any ideas why it is doing this?

    • @MountainMikeNM
      @MountainMikeNM  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I missed this. Is it a newer or older motor? If new, do you have the correct thickness of supply wire? Running too light of wire to a heavy draw can cause coils to overheat. Otherwise look for cooling/airflow problems or mechanical resistance in the system to start.

    My compressor starts working and builds pressure up to 150psi but sometimes during work it will not start and won't keep tank charged. Sometimes it turns on only for a few seconds then goes quiet. Sometimes I hears something that it wants to start like air going somewhere through the pipe for about 2 second and then quiets and stays like that. Fails to keep up pressure in tank when I use it. Pressure goes low as 50psi but compressor doesn't start. Then I had to open drain valve to release remaining air pressure in the tank. Disconnect it from AC power for few minutes and it starts working again build up to 150psi again. I don't hear any air leaks. What could be wrong? How to fix it?

      Hi! Based on what you're describing it sounds like you may have a faulty pressure switch. They can wear out. You could also have some kind of obstruction in the air line leading from the tank to the pressure switch, like a big flake of rust. Those are my best guesses without seeing it myself.

    my switch only wants to cut in at 135 and out at 175, if i turn it counter clockwise will it work ? or is that switch not going to work ? ideally i would want it to cut out at 125ish

    • @MountainMikeNM
      @MountainMikeNM  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That seems pretty high - like it's meant for a different range. Are you sure your compressor isn't designed to run at a higher pressure? For example, some 2-stage compressors can go as high as 250psi if I recall. If this is the case, you would want to use a regulator to drop the outgoing pressure.
      If it should definitely be lower, turning counter-clockwise might work. But generally the switches are designed for a certain pressure range and the adjustment is for fine tuning. Another thing you could try doing is to measure pressures with a different gage to make sure the one on your compressor is accurate.

      @@MountainMikeNM thanks for the help, i think i did a mistake and bought the wrong pressure switch. the original broke so i ordered one and that one has the higher cut off. stock one was cut in @100 and out @135. it might be to much to turn and wont work, just going to buy a new switch.thank you

      I have the same unit, I bought a tire machine and it has issues and only works at 1:35 down to 130, what is the highest that pressure switch can handle assuming I have the same one?

  • @davegerrard6857
    @davegerrard6857 ปีที่แล้ว

    The range you stated doesn't sound correct from my experience. I would double check with IR on the unit. Its been a few years so maybe they have changed.
