Anduin was born into a 16 bit world.
You missed one big story when he was learning under Prophet velen, velen saw vision of Anduin leading army of light against Void 😮
A few people have started to re-examine that vision as others have come to pass now, and people are speculating it may take place during the events of The Last Titan.

I was a teenager when MoP came out, so you can argue I grew up alongside Anduin. His empathy and his borderline stubborn desires for peace have always been something I've admired about him. Anduin is genuinely one of my favorite characters in this franchise, maybe in fiction overall, and I'll die in the trenches for my boy.
He's got a heart of gold and wears his intentions on his sleeve, and even though he's hurting and confused and feels lost, I'm really excited to be with him on his journey of healing and self-redemption.

Same here. I always thought his character was interesting, but MoP was when I started to become really invested in him. He's really... grounded? Immense? He's just got such a deep well of feeling and can be a very impactful force for other characters. The fact that I believe he's capable of that is a testament to how his character has been done. I haven't been playing for a VERY long time now, but still check in on the story and my favorite characters. I really hope Anduin gets his due and his dreams, and can rest in satisfaction after rather than being plunged into another tragedy. Really hope he gets more super epic moments too, he's just so cool and his theme is AWESOME. One of my favorite pieces of music.
My favourite questline ever was the Adnuin/Wrathion Legendary line. I was also blown away from the Legion Cinematic of him going to where his dad was slain, the insane ammount of conflict they managed to create within him. Him being forced to challenge his ideologies, and completely abandon everything he believed in was absolutely epic and tragic. I have’nt played much since Legion so idk what happened yet, just started the video 😅
Anduin is one of my favorite characters too, and it makes me sad when other people think he's boring or a p*ssy. He's such a strong and complex character

They're not killing him. He's clearly being developed into their new front figure.
On that note, it's not torture. Like I said, he's developing as a character.
Always being a goody two shoes and frankly a wuss. He's finally been growing as a character and quite a convincing way too. It's not like with a lot of other characters where you don't really feel it's a believable change.
He's got gritted teeth now but still shows compassion. This is a time where he's been shown a lot of grey area. Anduin was always good at seeing that things aren't just black & white, but he's now coming to grips with the many tones of grey he maybe only vaguely knew existed.

I've been saying this since I saw Katrina Praestor standing next to my boy... "Protect Anduin at all cost". He is so pure and awesome. Dude has been through so much. He kinda reminds me of Gohan in how kind yet strong he is.
Anduin is a GIGACHAD, man he is so young yet he had to endure things bearable only by experienced veterans he is the character with the BEST evolution

I’ve never been a fan of the Alliance but I always had a soft spot for Anduin. I quit after MoP and it broke my heart to see the tortured man Anduin had become in the War Within cinematic.
It hurts to see him so troubled, but at the end of the cinematic, he’s standing with Thrall, not walking away. My hope is that like his father, his scars are only going to make him stronger.
yeah its kind of an emotional scare and struggle than a physical one but I like it. seems more realistic and human to me.

I think Sylv’s story is over and her redemption is serving her time in the shadowlands.

I still remember playing WoW classic when I was in middle school (2004) and seeing a little kid in the throne room of Storm Wind. "Have you heard any news of my father?" He asked me. I never would have thought that this brat would become a hero I love today at 31 years of age.
An amazing video, though I feel like you passed up on the Gathering / Arathi Highlands Massacre (it would have been good to mention how he tried to make peace with Sylvanas after Legion, and why he set down the path for BfA) and also his relationship with Genn Greymane, who is essentially his pseudo-father and their relationship is honestly pretty important since Varian's death.
I pity all those who see Anduin as a "little bitch" or a "boy-king", who see him as a weak leader and/or a weak man - because I'll say, for all that he's been through, to still carry on and to have empathy even for those who imprisoned him... to then once again take Thrall's hand against a new potential threat - He's the strongest character I know in WoW.
Agreed. In the cinematic he says "I have no light" and I'm just thinking, of course you do, you're here and you're alive and you are free. You couldn't have done that without any light.

Trauma for days but one hell of a glow up
Bellular, thank you! Please make more of these. I'm a family man now and cannot devote hours a day to an MMO. But these lore chunks from the perspective of different major characters is a great summary of the WoW story and would help keep me updated even though I can no longer play. Top of my list for next videos would be Arthas and Thrall.

I really liked the bfa Story and the atmosphere and zones (except borrowed power) but sl was super shit in every regard
Right, it sucks because the actual lore is dope, but the actual game clashes so hard with it.
Calling it now, when Asmongler is going to react to this, he is still going to call Anduin a Crybaby b*tch, while refusing to accept any of his lore, because in his mind Anduin is always a crybaby b*tch, everything that happened to him, is still somehow not enough to justify his trauma.

Fantastic video. Would love to see more of these single character spotlights like this. There's a bunch of characters who bounce in and out of focus that have been around for a long time that I feel would be interesting to get the synopsis of. I feel like I learned a lot about the surrounding characters through this video on Anduin as well. Really well done.

Thank you, that was wonderful. Anduin's been my favorite since I started playing in BC. Every time we saw him, interacted with him, he fascinated me. The growth he's gone through has been amazing. And yes, the domination was horrible, My brother's a former Marine who saw some real bad stuff when he was in (1980s). I could see what was going on with Anduin was going to hurt more than ever and I knew it was going to be bad. But even with that, what we saw in the new announcement broke my heart. I've seen that very reaction with my brother and I know the PTSD. I am wanting to see where Anduin goes from here and how he works through being with his "friends" and his kingdom again. A fear there's going to be some fight with Turalyon about who is going to hold the throne of Stormwind.

This was great! What a complex set up for simply the development of the character - I hope we see something incredible come from it.
16:32 Point of contention: Varian and Sylvanas didn't make a suicidal attempt to stop the legion. That suggests they just went in guns a-blazing to sacrifice themselves to the greater good. They thought they had made a researched and well thought out plan that ultimately turned out to be part of a trap.
The biggest tragedy is how Blizzard did him dirty during BFA and Shadowlands.

@@cyric28 how when he chose every thing he did. He chose to slaughter the entire city of strathome even though we know there is a cure for the plague. He chose to chase malganis to northrend with zero support. He chose to pick up frostmourne even though he was told it was cursed. No one forced anything on him. His story is not a tragic one. Its one of pride and stupidity and a lust for more power. Arthas before and after picking up frostmourne are the exact same character. Both see murder as the 1st and only solution. The only difference is the number of people reigning in arthas bloodlust keep getting smaller and smaller. He wanted to be a paladin but really. He was a 1 handed fury warrior.

I relate to punished anduin hard. His loss of innocense mirrors us as we grew up.
Maybe in this expansion's mini series we'll see Anduin in one of the episodes and how he dealt with all this trauma, where he was and what he thought.

I think Anduins story has been pretty consistent to be fair.
Thanks for this. I don't even have an active sub, but I played since Beta. It's the story that keeps me coming back, at this point. As you noted, the lore of the Stormwind court was integral from the start. Anduin's fate is tied up with everything.

The Wrynn Dynasty was forged through tragedy and the courage of it's namesakes to face that tragedy with courage and honor.
Being trans I identify so such with Anduin. He found who he was in the Light and had to fight hard to be recognized and accepted by his father for who he was. I never got that recognition and acceptance from my dad, he passed when I was still fighting with him about it, but it was therapeutic to see Anduin got that acceptance

Anduin and Gen are probably my favorite alliance characters, as a strictly Horde player. Seeing his story arc mimic Arthas slightly as made me interested... kinda, in retail again.
Gen ???? Go learn his story one of the worst kings and hummans ever.
Would love to see his coming back into the light as a powerful pivotal moment in the coming expansion. Surely Anduin can be the new great paladin priest king and savior of Azeroth.

Wow you are an amazing story teller ...I had no clue about these specific details about the sword, BRD, Becoming Velen's Pupil ..i wish this was Implemented in the game therefore we the viewers and players would've been drawn to the entire story more.. even in shadowlands.. only if they would have followed this method the story would've been awesome

I'm so happy they're continuing to give Anduin some feeling of humanity. We've come a long way from the low-poly little boy in Stormwind. I like that they took him the empathetic route instead of the bitter one, the "it's worth it to struggle" instead of "I need to wall myself off and be a robot" trauma response. Shit, I don't think even -I've- recovered from Varian's death or Illidan proving that not only are the Naaru not infallible when it comes to the light, but that they can be destroyed. And Legion was a long time ago.

Hey bellular is there a video of the explanation of what happened after mists of pandaria to like legion or BOA I was a veteran back in TBC all the way to Cataclysm but I stopped playing rate after only to come back at the very end of shadowlands and have been hard into DF so far but I’m confused on the whole lore part? Happy new year, but what's next? Are we going to see more "life stories" vids on the channel, because I don't recall seeing one for Thrall, whose life is arguably far more tragic than Anduin's.
