I remember forcing my older brother to pirate this game and burn it onto CDs at like, 6 different occasions. Not because I was any good at it, but because I was obsessed with the manga-accurate aesthetic
One thing I'll say about this game, it's one of the few games with Chi-Chi as a playable character, I wish she was included in Dragonball FighterZ but unfortunately it was confirmed they're not adding any more characters to the game :(
One thing that really surprised me about revisiting Super DBZ after all these years is the music. Dunno how I didn't notice before... it's bloody fabulous.
This game is goated to me, not only is a it a rare example of a dragonball manga game, the only other I can think of off the top of my head is Dragonball Online, but its a legitimate fighting game with DEEP mechanics
Seeing more and more talk about this game brings a smile to my face. I love seeing obscure or hidden things like this get recognized and brought into the limelight on TH-cam or elsewhere. Hell, I learned there's a whole community still running games online for Super DBZ. Amazing what people will do for the things they love 👍
The game over screen after beating the game is very much an arcade fighting game trope. Usually they'll ask you to ask you to put your initials in if you made the leader board in either time completed or points.
I've played this a decent bit but never came back because I just preferred Budokai style games. The soundtrack has some bangers in it and the graphics are pretty good.
Played this all the time at a local card shop on an arcade machine back in the day. Took a bit to get used to but had fun. The art and transitions in your videos are top notch. You do a really great job every time
I love how you change your intro depending on the games that you're reviewing, also I remember playing this game on ps2 it was alright but the special moves looked off
Out of all the DBZ games on the PS2, Super Dragonball Z was my all-time favorite. What I loved the most about was how they stuck with the manga art style with the game instead of going with the anime. I always wished they had of made a Super DBZ 2 but, alas, it didn't happen. Sad, too, this game was the 💩 back in the day. I remember spending many an evening after work playing the game. If they ever do any remasters of any of the DBZ games, I seriously hope this is one they pick.
Super DBZ is my 3rd favorite DB game, its so well made for a licensed fighting game, its just that its more appealing towards people familiar with fighting games or wanting to get into those.
Something I haven’t seen many people mention about this game is that whilst it’s said that the game only has the dub cast for the audio, the PAL version of this game comes with the Japanese voices only and doesn’t let you change to the dub cast.
I’m not sure if this is appropriate, but it’s hot to listen to you talk about dragon ball ps2 games. It feels like TH-cam is finally fixing their algorithm and serving content and creators I want to watch
Watching Justin Wong talk about this game and seeing pro matches the other month... Absolutely SICK. When I played this on PS2 back in 2006 I thought it was good, but the way they play takes my appreciation and the game as a whole to a "Super" level
Also funfact : european version had Japanese dub only, but thats because europe (specifically france, portugal, spain and so on) were more familiar with Dragon Ball and japanese productions (they even got the japanese 16bit DBZ games localized there)
Another wonderful video. I liked to play this alot when it came out despite being trash at this sort of fighting game. I liked the art style and the gameplay with the freedom to roam the map and the high level of destruction. Great job.
@@HiddenChannel Yea that was always the best part plus the stages and character selection is great! I mean how many games let's you fight on snake way in the clouds? Or with a Grown Chi-Chi? OH and a cool new design for Mecha Frieza
You're not alone. Was never really aces at the game myself. Either the instructions on what to do weren't exactly clear or I my attention span was too short to try the tutorial stages. ...Might be the latter now that I think about it.
When i was a kid i thought the game was medicore but when i was a teenager i liked the game because when i was a teenager i finally figured out street fighter controls. However one thing i find stupid is other fighting games have better tutorials this game just had training mode only which is annoying its like they almost rushed
Played this a bit when it was new and it was in a weird place for me. The graphics were so good it made going back to any other dbz game at the time feel like a downgrade even though i didn't like the gameplay. So by looking too good but not playing that well (to my tastes) it made me disinterested in DBZ games for awhile. at least until xenoverse
the one thing this game lacked for me was duel or vs mode with cpu's, doing arcade and survival over and over can only last me so long, for me, fighterz, infinite world and budokai 3 are the top of the top.
The hidden gem that a lot of DBZ fans missed from PS2 Era of DBZ games is "Super Dragon Ball Z" which is also a real Unique and DBZ game, especially for the different gameplay aspects perspective. ✌☯️
When I got this game it was in Spanish when I was in holidays in Spain. I saw it and picked it up. I did not speak a lick of Spanish. So reading the manual at the time was impossible so I couldn't actually play the game because I couldn't know what the combos where lol 😂( this was when the game first came out and internet wasn't big everywhere and people still used internet cafes)
theres no version of the game in languages other than japanese and english. only the boxes were printed in other languages for europe. such as french, german spanish, etc. but the game was still in english
I remember going into FYE as a kid with my parents and I was allowed to get 1 thing and it was between this game and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 😂😂😂 I got the movie instead and I don’t regret that decision but I do regret never playing this game
I played I use to have it looks fun and enjoyble too I'm a fan of the video game 🎮🐉 I use to have it I'm thinking 🤔 about getting it again! As a dbz fan too.
I have that game since 2006 despite my lack of memories of playing that game. That game is somewhat interesting even though i hate the "Action" bar mechanics. That game is mediocre to me even though the cinematic cutscenes of ultimate attacks are cool to watch. I love that Chi Chi is playable which is unfortunately rare to see her playable in Dragonball games. This game seems like it's an experimental game.
i understand why it might not seem fun at a surface level, but Super DBZ would be really messed up without the action gauge. many aspects of combat are designed around it. its not there just to be annoying lol
I didn't like this game. Apparently it's considered super good by people who play it competitively, but I still don't like it. And that's coming from a guy that likes DBZ and to watch fighting games played competitively.
i absolutely hated this game! slow gameplay not enough characters to me it was just a waste and it’s not the controls i’m pretty good at street fighter
wow seeing that cover sent me through a time portal back to the 2000s begging my parents to get me this game 😭 haven’t thought about it since thank you for your service 🫡
Believe it or not there was actually a “side tournament” for this game at Evo last week, streamed and commentated.
That's awesome!
@@HiddenChannel hi, i was the lead TO. i brought the setups and won 😅 lol

Dunno how I didn't notice before... it's bloody fabulous.
i recommend checking out more work from Supersweeps' composers
That music is dope the title screen and wasteland song holy shit top tier 90s Japanese Dragonball music
@@_Pramus if you’re familiar with Street Fighter EX or Fighting Layer, those are the same composers

on the arcade version of this particular game it saves the name you made for the characterIC card you used.
Bought this as a kid, I felt like a crazy person being the only one who remembers this game, even my younger brother I played with forgot about it!
If I ever get another ps2 I'm definitely getting this game. It looks pretty fun and it went under my radar when I had one
use an emulator
I've played this a decent bit but never came back because I just preferred Budokai style games.

But honestly I like this graphic style of approach, like why the texture is so shiny shiny and over colorful palette..

Your TH-cam name is a good name, very hard to find when I search for your channel, it truly is Hidden 😅great video
It's disappointing to see yet another person that has their opinion of the FGC is sullied by genuinely cringe and toxic individuals like LTG.
Also funfact : european version had Japanese dub only, but thats because europe (specifically france, portugal, spain and so on) were more familiar with Dragon Ball and japanese productions (they even got the japanese 16bit DBZ games localized there)
It's pretty much a prototype to fighterz
Another wonderful video. I liked to play this alot when it came out despite being trash at this sort of fighting game. I liked the art style and the gameplay with the freedom to roam the map and the high level of destruction. Great job.
I like how the game takes the artistic style of the original manga instead of the anime. Wish more anime games would do that more often nowadays.
I like the graphics and characters just the damn controls kill me 🥲
You deserve way more view ! Great videos, great thumbnails ! Please continue :)
I Had this game. It didn't have a lot of content and, despite that, I played a lot. Its combat system was quite good
Hey I love your videos please keep doing them!
I remember renting Super Dragonball Z ps2 game at Hollywood Video when I was 15.
This game is good very good I love it..... it's a real shame I suck horribly at it making it very hard to enjoy for me personally
I really enjoyed the character customization. I'd love to see it in other dbz games.

I remember loving the appearance of this game & the mechanical freeza weaponry but the controls felt stiff and complicated to master.
the editing in this is so good
God i played this so much as a kid, probably my favorite classic dragonball game
Wow, the graphic of this game is fun to watch
Super DBZ I had this on the PS2 so many great memories 🍻
This is the most underrated dragon ball game ever
I don't even know how I came across this game when I was younger but I had it and unlocked everything. It gets tedious though.

This game will make a comeback, it's immaculate
The graphics not colour palette in this game are beautiful
What's the track that plays at 6:40 I know I've heard it somewhere but can't remember. And great video btw 👍
It's earth vs monkeys from the legacy of goku
What's the music that played around 9:30?

Hey hidden you should do a retrospective for dragon ball z raging blast 1&2
Imagine a sequel including more of the buu saga!
including the buu saga is actually what the PS2 content offered. the arcade version just had content up to the cell saga

what's the intro song please? 🤔

it pissed me off that in the ps2 era there were practically no dbz games same to the xbox
What?
The budokai series is for Dragonball fans.
Super Dragonball is for fighting game fans.
Whats with dragonballs poor naming of things after Super?

i absolutely hated this game! slow gameplay not enough characters to me it was just a waste and it’s not the controls i’m pretty good at street fighter
The gameplay is great imo. As a life long Street Fighter fan, I saw this game, as not so much a Street Fighter Game, but a polished 3D Super Butoden.
you’re not supposed to play this game like its street fighter.
watch kabeDBZ or whitefreeza and you’ll see how its played
How come I have a crush on you🤧always needed a girl like you in my life
