- The seemingly impossible has happened! Bandai has announced a new entry in the Budokai Tenkaichi franchise after all these years! Following Battle Of Z, Xenoverse, FighterZ, and so on, it felt like this franchise had served its purpose but it looks like there's more in the tank. With that, some may be new to Budokai Tenkaichi and others may want to relive the greatness of this franchise so let's roll back the clock to help recognize the significance of this announcement.

I'm hyped. We waited for years but it's still Bandai so.....despite hype we should expect like 6 dlcs of things that should have been in base game lol
My fear for the new game is that it’s gonna be the dlc machine knowing that the games are notoriously known for the amount of playable characters think about it
definitely gonna have alot of dlcs, its unfortunate there probably won’t be many unlockable characters either

Luckily for me, my mains are Piccolo, Tien Shinhan and Android 18, and they're almost guaranteed to be in the base roster. :P
I would love unlockables. It's something I miss in games lately. Dlc is definitely happening. I just hope it isn't overloaded and there is still some stuff to unlock. I loved going through each saga knowing id eventually get to play as Cell or Buu. Also the fusions need to come back please!

yep i thought that for some reason we would never see any kind of BT again, good to see Bamdai was listening to the fans! Great time to see a fan of Dragon Ball, last movie was amazing and since FighterZ we have had great games!
I will say though I really hope EVERYONE starts at base form- that was one of my favorite parts of the game, you have that ability to choose unlike some characters in Xenoverse
I was OBSESSED with these games back in the late 2000s. Me and my friends would play all the time. I had all 3 games in perfect condition. Still wish i hadnt sold them. And yes they are amazing and they still hold up very well imho. Can't believe there's gonna be a new one. Unbelievable
I love Tenkaichi 3. It has most complete feature, with its destructability, air to water battle, and flexible transformations (some are permanent though). I even flex on my friend as super saiyan, then just transforming back to normal, dodging all their attacks and still beating them up. Haha good old times
I like the way u put it when powering down to base form and whatnot because it got me thinking 🤔 remember how u could power down from being "Super Vegeta" to Vegeta in order to do fusion (if Goku is on your team)? Remember the "tree"/"fork in the road" of possibilities that each form gave you? as far as the show goes, they need to add some limitations to these new transformations and make the old forms MEAN something JUST LIKE THE GAME by: only allowing them to transform into specific forms through specific previous forms and giving every form a specific capability that other transformations can't perform.
I’ve been playing budokai tenkaichi 3 since I was a kid, it’s my favorite dragon ball game. It covers all lot of the series story, has TONS of characters even the minor ones just for the sake of it, and it’s just a lot of fun. The fact we’re getting a 4th is mind blowing to me because of how long it’s been, I’m very excited
Exactly. Some of my favorite characters to play weren't the main cast or even the most powerful. King Piccolo, Future Gohan, Tapion, Arale, Nova Shenron, Android 8, Nail, Babidi, Garlic Jr., Pilaf, Dr. Wheelo, Spike the Devil Man, etc. it was just a treat to throw them at characters like Broly or SSJ4 Gogeta just to see what would happen.

Its soundtrack is still LEGENDARY even after all these years. I slightly prefer 2 over 3 just because of the soundtrack

I was at a kickback at my friends apartment and my friends roommate had Tenkaichi 2 on his tv abandoned and while I was waiting for my turn at Beerpong I noticed it and my gamer side picked up that black ps2 control and when I realized I could fly around the stage I WAS IMMEDIATELY HOOKED, the next day I went to gamestop and picked up my own copy and holy shit was that game addicting, the combat, the destruction of the buildings and rocks and doing the spirit bomb along with the other specials, it was the game I have always dreamed of and when the 3rd one was out I didnt even wait for reviews and it was just as awesome.... goddam I am so excited for the 4th Tenkaichi.
I'm so happy this is happening. I played the Tenkaichi games with my best friend years ago. He would be stoked to see this with me if he was still around, I'll be playing the hell out of this in his honor.

I liked how you went over things and mentioned the modding community in this video a lot. I feel you on the open world from BT2 but I just love the combo and flow of BT3 best because of the way that content is sorta integral to itself like playing some modes or menus progresses an hour for the tournaments and the Yamcha tournament, or all the What If battles even outside of the what if saga like Nail helping Goku fight the Ginyu Force. There was so much love put into these games man.
Im so ready for this game! BT3 is my childhood and now that im older and a content creator/tournament player, I cannot wait for this game to come out and have great modes, amazing roster and depth so WE CAN ALL EAT
I remember playing 3 for the first time and to have all my characters from 2 come over. It just felt good
Bro I remember playing budokai 3 and literally every time me and my best friend played against each other back when split screen was still alive, we would both go goku and vegeta and as the fight went on we slowly went from ss1 all the way to ss3 and super vegeta. Then we would do the beam duel to end the fight. Would get blisters going so hard turning the analog stick 😆😆
If I can recreate one of these moments when the game comes out I'll be happy.
Still remember after ditching ss3 with goku once to go back to base form and do a massive spirit bomb against my friend who tried stopping it with his gallick gun and just slowly the spirit bomb got closer until it wiped him out and out bunch of buildings around him 😆

I think 50 characters (not counting transformations) at launch would be good. It's unreasonable to expect them to have 100+ characters at launch if they're making tenkaichi 4 from the ground up. They're obviously gonna do dlc, so that's how the roster will expand with time. I can't wait to see more of the game and to see how the game actually plays
God please I know it's borderline impossible but I would HATE character dlc, unlocking them through gameplay was half of the fun of Tenkaichi 3
At least the main characters, it would suck if we had to pay for someone like Gotenks
But like I understand paying for a pack like the Bojack movie with all the villains and a new gohan costume
@walberparker I'm sure they know what tenkaichi fans like, so unlocking things through playing is probably a given. There will absolutely be dlc though. If it allows them to take their time to perhaps really flesh out the content and make it worth buying, I'm honestly fine with it

50 characters would be a major letdown. OG dragon ball characters alone is 14 characters not counting transformations and gt that’s about 9 characters so that’s like 23 characters which only leaves room for 27 dbz characters which prolly isn’t enough slots to add everyone up to the Freiza saga
I only played Budokai 1 and 2 but not 3. Sadly I only played BT3 since I missed the other ones but seeing the announcement of 4 made my day and I can't miss out on this one this time! I'm getting this on day 1!

It's better than T3 when you wanna do 2v2 since it can have 4 characters on the map at the same time
To me it feels the most authentic. Gamplay and also character interactions, wht thy say to eachother. Alot of love went into all the characters.

Game is super underrated, feel like I'm like one of 10 people who've played it because no one talks about it, or really praises it like they should.
Had one of the hardest "What If?" Scenarios as well, with you having to fight both SSJ3 Goku and Fat Buu at the same time as a single Freiza Soldier!
Man I am so with you in regards to DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2. That game summed up my entire childhood as far as gaming goes. I remember my uncle asking me for Christmas 1 year , I probably was 11 at the time and he asked what game did I want for Christmas and I told him DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and he said he try to get me it. I didn't know where he went to grab it but he got Budokai Tenkaichi 2 for me instead of 3 because they didn't have it. Looking back at that, I am thankful that I had the privilege to own one of the greatest DB games of all time and it was more than that to me because I saw it as number 1. It was the 2nd DB game I had owned at the time (Budokai 2 was the 1st) and It will always have a place in my heart forever.
It was great for its time. But its greatest feature that you don't find these days in Dragon Ball games was the roster and the fun to have with friends. It was SO EASY to pick up and enjoy with them.

3D oriented DBZ have spoiled me to the point where I just find it difficult going back to the original Budokai titles and the Shin Budokai games lol I'm excited to see how modern gaming treats an old formula
My first go with BT was definitely 3 over at an old friend's house, and on the Wii of all places. We were both always amped to play rounds of it whenever we could. Eventually I owned a copy of my own on the PS2 which I would play to as close to completion as possible.
Unfortunately, that experience left my playing of BT2 a little wanting. It just didn't feel as good to me and had less characters, so when I rented it at the time, I just wasn't feeling it.
With that, I really have no urge to get BT1 anytime soon.

Tenkaichi 3 was the only game I could beat my 6 year older brother and all his friends constantly so it was a big thing to me even for just that I never thought we would get 4 but now I'm extremely excited

I'm wondering if they curb development time by using the models from Xenoverse 2 and just customize from there. Would make the large roster a little more attainable than working from the ground up.
Totally fine with cutting corners so long as the end result looks good and feels good. It'd be resourceful. I do want a massive roster but I will admit I don't need *every single* character back if they're minor ones like "Frieza Soldier." I want the movie villains and GT characters, not to mention all the new blood that'll come in from Super.
I had no idea there was a version of BT3 with a bonus disc. I bought the game on PS2 as a kid when it was brand new and it didn't have a bonus disc.
I'm hoping that the new Tenkaichi has as many characters as Tenkaichi 3 did. Tenkaichi 3 was my favorite dragon ball game for a long time because of that.
I don't need *every* single character (like, Frieza Soldier?) but we definitely need all the major ones like the movie villains and GT villains. Not to mention all the new blood coming in from Super. This roster could be nuts!!

Hearing the Tenkaichi name is nostalgic for me. I loved playing Budokai 3 and was really excited when Tenkaichi 1 came out when I was in high school. It was ok but 2 and 3 were really fun. I played a ton of 2 on PS2 and 3 on the Wii. Now if they announced a Budokai 4 as well that would be amazing.
I'm Chinese and I used to play this on ps2 with my friends when I was a kid. We used to go to these stores with several ps2s and play tenkaichi 3 for 4-6 chinese yuan an hour (not cheap). Those were good memories
It has the best combat system to make you feel like you are in the Manga/Anime. The air combat, the beam struggles, the Transformations, the sound design. Any other DBZ game didnt really deliver a great package always lacking in one or two parts.
My friend and I played Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and 3 all the time at his house for probably 5 years straight. I am SO EXITED for Budokai Tenkaichi 4!!!

One of the many things that I love about budokai tenkaichi and I hope it's there in bt4 is that in every other game franchise we want something new, and in budokai we just want to play the same story over and over again because that's the story we like, ofc w polishment and roster and all that, I hope bt4 covers history from classic dB up until dbs

Kinda sucks they initially went with the less skill intensive game but it's still hype to see it come back after all these years
I feel like now that dragon ball fighter z is a thing, it would make absolutely no sense to release a "budokai 4". Outside of the way the supers were presented, dbfz is in every way better than budokai 3's format when it comes to a "cel shaded side fighter"
@@matics28 sure but not everyone wants to play a guilty gear/blaz blu clone when it comes to DBZ that also want to play a competitive game.
Furthermore the two games are VASTLY different as far as gameplay style and both have merit in a competitive sense.

I can't even begin to explain how happy about this. I owned and played EVERY Tenkaichi game, even Ultimate Tenkaichi. I might even still have them lying around somewhere. I love these games so much.

Aside from FighterZ, Tenkaichi 3 is the last Dragon Ball game I bought. It’s not the deepest fighter but between the the amount of story it covers and the roster I’ve never felt like I really needed a follow up.
I’ve only played tenkaichi 3 on the Wii. Am I missing out on the ps2 version? 😭 also seeing that open world aspect to tenkaichi 2, I’m tempted to pick that one up

Alright, everyone, start your tier list for super characters. I'm gonna go ahead and put Hit and dyspo in S tier because something tells me time skip and Dyspo's speed are gonna be broken.
Damn... So Nostalgic, Now I'm so hype, this DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 4 will be so Insane... Despite all the DBZ games that have come out over the years, BT1 has the most badass and authentic Intro of all of DBZ games of the Franchise. BT2 and BT3 in my opinion still remains the most Unique and the best DBZ games in terms of content, quality and fanservices. And from the gameplay perspective aspects, these DBZ games that I mentioned are very close to the anime itself because of the Vibe and Charm, I don't know how to describe it but it was, and still is the most Unique DBZ experience you could have with the combat factor. (- Sheer amount de of characters
- Transformations mid-battle (powering up and down)
- Fusions mid-battle
- Fast gameplay that has that "woah" feel
- Tons of extra content
- Story mode covering all sagas + movies
- What If sagas
- Shenron having permanent impact on game (character unlocks and whatnot)
- Great tournaments that rotate availability
- Edit characters with items (buffs)
- 5v5 battles
- Really Great and Epic Soundtracks
- Destroyable environments
- Entire stages could be blown up into their "destroyed" alternatives
- Mission 100 being a great challenge
- Artwork is 10/10
- Sound effects are great
- Combat feels heavy and satisfying) Only Budokai 3, Infinite World and the Raging Blast 1 and 2 and all of PSP DBZ games except of Dragon Ball Z Evolution are still considered also very solid DBZ games, also the hidden gem that a lot of DBZ fans missed from PS2 Era of DBZ games is "Super Dragon Ball Z" which is also a real Unique and DBZ game, especially for the different gameplay aspects perspective.

I played the hell put of bt3 when I was a kid. I remember having so much trouble unlocking king kold. Man was it so satisfying to unlock him
I actually had the same experience as a kid. King Cold was a very tough character to unlock but with enough wins on the tournaments I was able to get the dragon balls and wish for him.
Never played BUDOKAI TENKAICHI 3 but man the ost for TENKAICHI 2 was amazing man and the story
The reason people love BT3 is because they took everything they did with 2 and perfected it. BT3 had more polish on its gameplay making it such a buttery smooth experience. BT2 is no slouch, but 3 was just the icing on the cake for the franchise.

Yes it is. I'll never forget the first Tenkaichi intro, and then the next two. These are pinnacle of DBZ gaming in 2000's.
Only nervous energy for 4 I have is it seems like the perfect game for DLC packs.
It's weird how all three of the Budokai Tenkaichi games got mixed reviews from critics - all of them getting around 70s on Metacritic. The user scores, however, are very high.
I wonder if Budokai Tenkaichi 4 will be the same and get mixed reception from critics, but will (hopefully) be acclaimed by fans of the series.

Tbf the games were a bit jank, but nothing terrible. If someone isn’t a DB fan, I can see why they wouldn’t be as hyped.
That all depends on how ambitious and passionate the people behind budokai tenkaichi 4 is fans will be mad if it turns out to be cash grab it honestly scares me bc they can still make alot of money off of this game without putting much effort into it budokai tenkaichi 4 is a powerful name it makes money just by having that name in its title

Users are rating their enjoyment.
A professional critic just wouldn't have the same time to enjoy the game. They also don't have the same incentives as regular people playing the games.

My favorite thing in BT2 is in story mode I can replay the first fight against Vegeta in the Saiyan Saga as SSJ3 Goku.
I grew up with 1 and 3, finally went back to try bt2. Unfortunately, my computer cant handle story mode so i tested out the combat system instead.
Definitely not as polished as BT3. Many balance changes were made to make combos less broken.
The roster is def better in BT3 than BT2 because they are essentially the same but with more variety of super moves. BT3 doesnt have more “identical” characters than BT2.
Regarding BT4, they’ll probably mimic raging blast regarding supers (aka customizing the loadout)
You need to play BT3 on the Wii!

Motion control attacks were so much fun!
I liked the Budokai games a lot because those felt more like classic fighting games
But Tenkaichi felt like an ANIME fighter. Like you were actually playing the anime. They got it so perfect, crazy attention to detail. I think this was also the first of its kind too, where it felt more like you were playing the show as opposed to playing a game.
My biggest memories of my whole childhood is playing every b and bt game and the game boy games. 16 years we have waited.

Plot twist, the game is actually Ultimate Tenkaichi 2. All jokes aside I don’t think this game will be called Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 4. I think it will be called Dragon Ball Super Budokai Tenkaichi

Played the first and second on PS2, whilst I got the 3rd on the wii. Really enjoyed the wii controls. Felt cool doing blasts. Hardest part I really felt panicked on was ssj3 Goku Vs kaiju Hirudegarnn. I just couldn't beat him until I started hiding behind the buildings to charge up since he couldn't see me, then coming out attacking and repeat 🤣
When my and my cuz were 10 me and he’s friends playing 3 co Op it was fun and we had to scroll to the menu to see specials moves 🎉🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
About a month ago I was fortunate enough to find a mint complete in box copy of Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for the Wii at my local GoodWill. They sold it to me for $10! Lol. If anyone has a GoodWill near by or don’t mind driving to one I highly suggest you do! You’ll be surprised what kind of awesome stuff you can find for super cheap. 💜
For me these are the best DBZ games ever made and it's not just because of the large roster. I think the gameplay captures the soul of dragon ball the best with it being so fast paced and action packed and having cool cinematic ultimates that are as close to the anime as possible. Also in game transformations that actually change your moveset not just the hair color. they can shait out as many character DLCs as they want for Xenoverse 2, but since it's gameplay is so inferior to BT3, I just can't get into it. I'm cautiously optimistic for the new tenkaichi game. I'm pretty sure it won't release with a 150 characters like BT3, but if they capture he gameplay and feel of BT3 then it's more than I can ask for. Honestly, We should expect 150 characters. Its a sequal, and it should, like the previous entries, progress every aspect. It should happen by all means. Now multiplayer on the other hand, they could do that dlc crap. But single player? And p1 vs p2 local matches tho? Nah man. That shit needs to be the same as the third if not add even more characters. That’s what a sequel is
Xenoverse 2 gameplay is better in my opinion, all characters in tenkaichi play the same

Budokai Tenkaichi series is the one of my favourites, the ones I liked the most were BT3 and BT Tag Team the one that everyone forgets

I was so into these games in my childhood! I spent hours fusing items in BT2 to unlock the movies storylines for the Story Mode. Imo, BT2 had the best Story Mode and amazing soundtrack. BT3 had the most characters, streamlined (but still good) Story Mode, and better graphics
For me 3 was just different and I was addicted
