      Thank you so much for stopping by and visiting. This design is completely adaptable for being closed in - it works great for goats to move them around. Makes goat wrangling pretty easy. Just a suggestion. I would have the hay off of the concrete because concrete will draw a certain amount of moisture that will mold the hay on the bottom layer.

      @@TheLaLaFarm I watched the video and I enjoyed the barn set up even though I don't have goats, I do have chickens and I have thought about venturing out with a few other things but I'm unsure as of yet what it may be at the moment. I know a little more about cattle than I do about goats and I've had some hogs before but perhaps in time, I'll know more about what I'd like to invest in.

    Hi Rick, I watched a couple of your videos on TV yesterday and came back to comment. That is quite a barn. I noticed the triple lag bolts right away and thought maybe it was to combat hurricanes. Very nice, well thought out build. Lots of hard work. How long have you lived there?

    • @TheLaLaFarm
      @TheLaLaFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I overbuild everything! We do get high winds, but the biggest issue I was anticipating was a 180 pound goat headbutting the walls. The have broken 3 welded gates - one of which was bent in half. The walls however have not budged. For about 5 months - you could not find a 5" anywhere in town or at the closes Home Depot. 😁 We bought the land 5 years ago, and it been a series of projects ever since. We moved onto the property 3 years ago. This winters projects are to build 10 more raised beds; finished my covered garden work space; and build a 3rd chicken coop for breeding pairs; and of course - some goat cross fencing. All of these projects are impractical during the heat of the summer - its just too darn hot. Thanks for watching Roland. - Rick

    • @TheLaLaFarm
      @TheLaLaFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      We dont have plans for the barn - I just drew it out on paper and built it. The main pole barn we had built at a cost of about $5,000. The concrete floor was $2,500. The additional interior for the stalls, walls, and hardware was about another $3,000. So we have about $11,000 in the barn.

    • @TheLaLaFarm
      @TheLaLaFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@catherinegrace6406 Yes - I meant under the hay bales. Sorry. Hay that is stacked directly on concrete will tend to pull moisture into the bale from the concrete. So when this video was done, we used horse pads under the hay stack. We have since found some plastic pallets that we stack the hay on now - which is far better. The plastic pallet is completely inert, really sturdy, and does not interact with the hay in any way. The pallet also allows for airflow beneath the hay bales which helps to keep them dry. - Rick

    • @TheLaLaFarm
      @TheLaLaFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know - that is a great question - we have not had that issue, but have since raised the hay onto plastic pallets to avoid moisture from getting under it. We did lose a few bails, but this doesn't seem to be a problem any longer. Thanks for stopping by.

      Thanks a ton!! My whole family tells me I overbuild everything. The barn is often their prime example of this. I on the other hand - research everything - design it on paper - then try to build something that is functional and built to last. The barn is super flexible in terms of how we configure it for what we are doing during a particular time of the year. Right now, it is pretty wide open like in the thumbnail so my granddaughter can work with her goats for our annual county fair. Come winter, it will be filled with hay. Am I the only one that has goats that eat wood because mine gnaw on any wood they can get to. It appears you have the wood on the outside of the panels and fencing so they can't get to it. Been years and I've never given my goats minerals, just goat feed and pasture, so maybe I need to start, but never had a problem with any types of sicknesses in 3 or 4 years.
