HIGH To LOW Move To Start Turning And Stop Extending!

  • Do you struggle to properly turn and rotate in your swing, and find yourself early extending? In this video I'll show you a different pattern to create flexion and rotation in transition and quiet down that standing up move in the downswing. You'll see how to start turning hips and stop thrusting them towards the ball! Many students I see lower early off the ball, turning in the wrong bends which sets them up to create a more over the top pattern. This often requires more squaring of the club face and early extension to help shallow out the golf club late into the strike. We also take a look at the Jon Rahm swing to see what impact elements he creates to become the top player he is. Let's learn this high to low move to spawn a more rotary golf swing where we can land in transition and turn the corner like the pros. I hope you enjoy this video!

    I am 75 and wished I had this method 30 years ago. I can hit the ball farther and more consistently than I ever have. Don't understand the mentality of ridiculing someone that is only trying to help. Keep up the good work Milo.

    Love the way you swivel your head through the swing! Your head actually starts to swivel before impact! That’s an awesome move that helps facilitate torso rotation. When players extend (stand up) and throw (as you demonstrate in the video), their chin usually buries down into their chest. The opposite pattern that you teach (flexion and rotation), the head needs to release (swivel) with the torso. You do that beautifully with your own swing! Thanks for uploading and sharing.

    It worked!!! I've always stayed 'low and down' on the backswing and started the downswing with early extension . I just tried starting my swing backswing 'up and out' and my body immediately knew what to do!

    Milo, this is excellent instruction. I recently discovered this “high to low” move while on the range working on clearing my left hip and slinging the club like a frisbee. I had trouble keeping the cub head on plane. Could you give some specific instruction on use of the left arm sling off the chest move combined with the high to low instruction you give in this video???

    I think a lot of people don’t feel the power needed for another reason sometimes. If there isn’t a great connection with the ground before you take it back then extension comes in. But a slight down, up, then down might help many. The slight down is lower body connection with the ground, and this can go in conjunction with a slight shaft lean trigger. This might be more common with taller people.
    Thanks, great video.

    I agree with this approach. However Rahm was used as an example and his head height actually lowers before he reaches the back of his backswing. However he stays low (and moves even lower) during the downswing and definitely doesn’t early extend.

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Many lower a tad in their backswing, yes. For many amateurs though this can cause a poor windup and subsequent standing/jumping up and out.

    Great video. I hurt my left knee bc I reverted back to my old early extension ways while hitting driver & incorporating your swing. Your method feels great with irons but I think I should've kept honing it until it's ingrained more before I started hitting driver. Knee is on the bend. I should be fine for this upcoming season with your teachings should have the best season of my life. (+30 years golf life). Peace out

    Very few if any top pros move up during the backswing . Just look at your backswing ; you do NOT move up.
    There are two ways to move up in the the backswing
    1. Lose flex in BOTH knees . Most players lose flex in their trail knee going back ; everyone increases flex in their front knee going back . The changes in flex of both knees causes some tilting of the pelvis towards the target but does not result in a gain in height
    Extending the spine going back will result in moving up going back
    Left side tilt will result in C7( base of neck ) moving towards the base of the spine ( T1)
    In your swing you have considerable spine extension at the top AND you increase this spine extension in transition .But the real difference between your demonstration of your good and bad swings is your shifting weight towards the outside of your front foot and the straightening of your front leg . It is these movements which result in your position at impact and NOT trying to move lower in the downswing

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct most professionals stay fairly level in the backswing they actually loose a little height, however many amateur players drop significantly in the early backswing then have no choice but to get out of it causing many problems.

  • @stephenmiddleton8158
    @stephenmiddleton8158 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tried the squeeze right hip on the way down, difficult to do at speed. Good to have another way of trying to get rid of early extension. The drop from the top seems a good feeling because I think, even though I stay on plane, I pull down to hard.

    This is hysterical: Your "bad" swing is miles (no pun intended) better than my "good" one. :) Don't misunderstand me, the video is appreciated and I believe is spot on for anyone, like me, who tries to use their arms to hit the ball instead of leaving the arms alone and using the body to drive the swing. But aren't you worried about all the laughs you'll get on the message boards from people who consider this approach to be one of the worst ways to hit a golf ball; I mean, Paul Wilson's "powerless arms and body-driven" swing has been ridiculed for years. This is only partly tongue-in-cheek, BTW. Thanks again for the video.

    • @ElSupremo5
      @ElSupremo5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why would Milo be ridiculed? He is easily one of the best if not the best instructors on TH-cam. And he of course exaggerates the move as part of it is the feel vs real. Paul Wilson is also excellent is a little repetitious.

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've been ridiculed many a time, but I believe my methods work. Just part of the business.

    • @normankleinberg5525
      @normankleinberg5525 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ElSupremo5 As I say, this general approach of a body-driven swing is the only one that works (to whatever extent) for me. While Milo's and Paul's swings are different, at their core (again, no pun) is similar. Wilson has been ridiculed partly because he's old-school, works with a lot of seniors and has a corny approach (also perhaps because he can be defensive). Why do people ridicule others? Well, that is up to debate but a lot of it is because they like to feel superior, part of a club, whether that club is the more "intelligent", more "accomplished", or, here, more talented at golf. Which means they are insecure. It doesn't matter; as I mentioned, the question was at least partly tongue-in-cheek.

    Any insights on best way to think or feel coming out of bends and into extensions after impact? My problem is I feel the drop and start rotate hip and chest but always seem to stay too much on right side and never get left. If I try to re-center much more or much earlier, I can't seem to rotate.

    So, when you drop and turn and the arms separate from the body at the bottom of the arc, I take it this is the fastest and most impact that the club head will possess? Is that correct? And is the problem that we think this moment is when the arms are further/farther from the body having accelerated from the top down to the bottom? Are we confusing speed with the true energy of FORCE? Which is actually f=ma FORCE= Mass x Acceleration, which is one of only two formulas I ever remembered the other being also golf related d=st Distance = Speed x Time. which excludes mass/body weight. If this is interesting, I really think I deserve maybe a free hat, I really do.

      You have to learn to match up the parts. Good rotators rarely struggle with poor low point control and divots too deep. If you are struggling with deep divots you are either not getting your chest rotated through the strike or you are unloading your arms and wrists too soon.
