Do you remember waaay back in V4, when RWBY split up? Wiess, Blake and Yang, each took time to process the fall of Beacon and went on journeys of self-discovery. But Ruby just kept moving on. She had to continue the mission.

What's interesting is that Blake & Ruby have completely reversed roles 180 degrees from where they were in Volume 2....now Blake is the optimistic one, always trying to discover the way forward...and Ruby is sullen and withdrawn and isolating herself the way Blake did in Volume 2.

I find it interesting how many reactors don’t realize Ruby actually died here. The tree is reincarnation, where the afterins go when they die to be reborn. Ruby essentially drank poison, died and ascended to the tree. It makes this episode hit even harder once you realize she basically committed $uicide.

Before V4 Team RWBY also represented characters from the Wizard of Oz. Ruby = Dorothy: over her head, naïve
Yang = brainless sacrecrow: She didn't think before she acted
Weiss=heartless tin woman: blunt, prideful, and uncaring
Blake= cowardly lioness: always running when things got tough

This was one of the hardest scenes ive watched on rwby for me, but i must say just how amazing does Pyhrra and Torchwick look in the new engine xx

If you look back at episode 7 during the fight with the Walkers, or if you jus listen to "trapdoor," the song that plays its a look into how Ruby feels and thinks a little

When Neo exacted her revenge, she robbed herself of her purpose in the Ever After, leaving herself vulnerable to the Cat. It's not all she wanted, but what she actually wants (to have Roman back) is impossible, and as fun as her illusions are, they're no substitute for the genuine article and Neo knows it and is heart-broken.
