  • Successful E-Bikers take all of these situations into account as they are cruising around Marco Island. Here is the link to the city's Bike Path maps. www.cityofmarc.... We need to make E-Bikes a non-issue on Marco Island so that regulation doesn't come into the conversation. The only way this will happen is if we operate them more like traditional bikes while on the shared-use paths.

I couldn't agree with you more, Tom. You are not just a Great Ambassador for the Island. You are a Great Ambassador for the Entire ebike Community.
We have similar laws here in Vermont. The town I live in is just starting to implement shared use paths. Everything thing you stated is spot on. ❤ 🚲

Good video Tom. I bought an e-bike at the beginning of COVID and I ride 10+ miles every day. I am about ready to turn over 10,000 miles and the bike has never left Marco. When I need to use a sidewalk I always stay around 11-12 mph. When I am on the back roads of my neighborhood, I usually run 15-16 mph. I also use a bell and have found people appreciate the warning. I also have front and rear flashing led lights. Most close calls are folks backing out of driveways.

Thank you for the nice comment, Douglas. That's quite an accomplishment, 10,000 miles! It sounds like we are ride very similarly. We use our front and rear lights as well and my speeds are the same. Can I ask why brand and model of E-Bike you have? -Tom

Excellent tutorial Tom. If everybody heeded this advice, there wouldn't be any problems.
BTW, the hair looks great...glad to see the Flo-Bee is still in good working order! 😁

Just don't be like the old guy on a bike who I see often near me who angrily screams at the top of his lungs "ON YOUR LEFT!"

I sometimes need to scream when passing on my bike because, 1. People have earbuds in and/or 2. They don't move over, or acknowledge that they hear me.

I would find that annoying for sure. LOL

I find that even the bell startles people - so I slow down and pass on the grass - the grass makes enough noise and pedestrians know where you are, ie off the cement.

Tom last time I was at Mackle Park there was a sign posted on the entrance door to the center. It basically said there were no motorized devices of any kind permitted around the lake. You may want to delete that part of your video.

Thank you, Joe. There was a post on Facebook letting me know that as well. An ignorant mistake on my part. It's odd because there's that little stretch of the shared use path that merges into the Mackle Park path, and then off again. I wonder what the intent was there? Designed before the whole E-Bike thing I presume. Thanks again. I always appreciate being educated. -Tom

I suppose you made this video because of the accident in Key Biscayne. Diff is that your Marco has a lot less traffic and congestion than Miami, also the kid that caused the accident should not have been riding an e bike to begin with. Not fair for us, responsible e bikers. But as far speed is concerned, I get passed by cyclists ALL the time, going much faster and ignoring traffic control devices.

Great comment, Pedro. I missed the Key Biscayne incident. I'll have to look that up. Thanks for the heads up!

@@evolutionaryTom That happened a month ago and the village now has banned e bikes for 60 days, but I am sure they will extend the ban. Since a lot of kids there have parents with money to burn, they buy the spoiled little brats fast e bikes which they ride very fast and this accident happened and the other cyclist got killed.
