I met Kevin Cronin REO's lead singer in 1985 right after I got out of the Army. It was a few days before Christmas and my wife and I were shopping In the Gulf View Square Mall in Port Richey Florida. He was in a music store buying CDS for gifts and I got his attention as he left the store. I told him this REOs song helped keep me going through some long stretches of time when I was stationed out of the country without my family. He shook my hand and said how much he admired what we in the Military do. He gave me an autograph and we went our separate ways. I never asked what he was doing in little Port Richey Florida but I later learned why. His wife is from the nearby town of Hudson and they were there for the holidays visiting her family. We've seen them 5 Times since and they're still one of my favorite bands.
I love this story. If you watch interviews with Kevin it's obvious that he is a very good, down to earth person. He gives credit to others and is so humble. It makes me love his music more!!!💗
@@CatsPajamas23 Thanks for that😉! Another musician I admire is Tom Keifer, former lead singer for Cinderella who now has a solo career with a new band. He's been through alot (paralyzed vocal cord) but he's doing well and like Kevin, he's just a great guy!!! 🎸💗. Love & Respect
Definitely one of my favorite bands of the 80s. I remember going to one of their concerts back in 1982-83. I can't remember exactly the year, since it has been a long time. But one thing I would never forget is with whom I was with. My beloved first love! She was around 18 yrs old, and I was about 19 yrs old. Time flies when you are having fun. I wished I can go back and revisit those long gone days. I feel privileged to have lived at that time. The music was awesome, and I think people were a little more caring and understanding. Well, that's my personal opinion. Rock on Baby!🤘
This is the best live performance of this song.He was the best singer in the world then. He had the most tuneful, melodic voice. Pure as the driven snow.
Nothing against Kevin but he was hardly the best singer in the world back in 1985. Steve Perry from Journey had a way better voice than Kevin Cronin. Dennis DeYoung from Styx (also an Illinois native) had a better voice.

This song is engrained in my memory. My friends and I hadn't been driving long but we would pile in the car and sing this song at the top of our lungs. Kevin is amazing, his singing still gives me chills!💕🎸 #lovereo!!!!
Yes back in the day Cronins voice was amazing, the most melodic voice I have ever heard. I have seen these guys from 1981 till the present, Definitly miss Gary the most down to earth real guitarist of all time, what a unique talent like no other. They just don't make music like these guys did anymore. Rip rock N roll this generation just don't know what great music is amymore
Hi Rob, The story I heard was that he died a few day later after complications from stomach surgery. But you are telling us that it was related to his addiction. Was it alcohol or drugs? I must admit he was a brilliant guitarist.
Gary Richrath RIP Brother and thank you for bringing you...the gift of melodic expression on a guitar. So into your playing and when working with young cats coming through as a producer, I tell them to listen to and learn from you. Deep respect still now in 2020 from NZ.
I saw the band in 1979 in Memphis and got sun burned so bad it took me a week to recover. It was worth it. Now I'm 64ys old. Still remember it like yesterday. I will see them in Huntsville Al in a few weeks. In side.....😅
I LOVE THIS SONG, HERE ARE THE LYRICS : Oh, I can't fight this feeling any longer And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow What started out this friendship has grown stronger I only wish I had the strength to let it show I tell myself that I can't hold out forever I said there is no reason for my fear 'Cause I feel so secure when we're together You give my life direction You make everything so clear And even as I wander I'm keeping you in sight You're a candle in the window On a cold, dark winter's night And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might And I can't fight this feeling anymore I've forgotten what I started fighting for It's time to bring this ship into the shore And throw away the oars, forever Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore I've forgotten what I started fighting for And if I have to crawl upon the floor Come crushing through your door Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you I've been running around in circles in my mind And it always seems that I'm following you, girl 'Cause you take me to the places That alone I'd never find And even as I wander I'm keeping you in sight You're a candle in the window On a cold, dark winter's night And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might And I can't fight this feeling anymore I've forgotten what I started fighting for It's time to bring this ship into the shore And throw away the oars, forever 'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore I've forgotten what I started fighting for And if I have to crawl upon the floor Come crashing through your door Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore.......
I heard this song for the first time just after it was released. My ears hadn't quite tuned into it but I told a friend that it would go to #1 on the charts. A few months later I was driving through Kansas on a Sunday morning. Kasey Kasem was counting down the top 40. After he played the #2 song he said a band from Champaign Illinois had this week's #1 song. He went to commercial then came back and Introduced REO Speedwagon CFTF at #1.

I LOVE THIS SONG, HERE ARE THE LYRICS :
Oh, I can't fight this feeling any longer
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow
What started out this friendship has grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let it show
I tell myself that I can't hold out forever
I said there is no reason for my fear
'Cause I feel so secure when we're together
You give my life direction
You make everything so clear
And even as I wander
I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crushing through your door
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore
My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you
I've been running around in circles in my mind
And it always seems that I'm following you, girl
'Cause you take me to the places
That alone I'd never find
And even as I wander
I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crashing through your door
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore.......
