  • This video provides a detailed look at how to replace the factory hydraulic timing belt tensioner in our 1985 Porsche 928S "Risky Business" winter project with an aftermarket Porken Tensioner. Based on the straightforward installation, we recommend 928 owners consider this upgrade the next time you need to replace your car's timing belt. The primary advantage of the Porken over the factory system is the elimination of the need to check and adjust timing belt tension at installation and 2,000 miles later.

    The only U.S. supplier of Porken Tensioners is 928srus.com/ and Roger is very helpful and knowledgeable. We highly recommend them and to be clear, we paid full price for our upgrade, so this IS NOT a paid endorsement or other forms of advertising.

    Thank you for an outstanding video of the Porken Tensioner! This was fantastic to watch and helped tremendously in understanding how to install this tensioner in my 928.

    An absolutely OUTSTANDING how-to video for what is a must-have 928 addition: The PorKen tensioner. Thanks for posting, and thanks to Roger and Mercedes Tyson for getting me the kit. Installing next week!
    (And congrats on solving the fuel supply issue. The damned grounding straps on Porsches frequently seem to cause mysterious issues. My 91's was compromised causing the tach appeared to fluctuate wildly, scaring the crap out of me.)

    Fantastic video! The OEM set up is such a PAIN! The inventor needs an award!
    My 928 sits a lot. (Its a garage queen...or a cat, not sure which. It does not like water and 928s can not swim as we all learned in Risky Business). The tank has been out and is very clean. Even with a new fuel pump and strainer it fails to pump from time to time. I was able to repair the pump plus another that was in the car when I bought it. I used mineral spirits and let it set for 5 to 10 min off the car. By applying external battery correctly, then reversing it 4 or 5 times it will break loose. By doing this, all 3 pumps work and I always have a spare. Now that I know... I just take the wires loose and rock it till it breaks free on the car. It has only happened 1 time, but now I know! Keep the videos coming!

    factory recommended Torque for the harmonic balancer bolt is 275 Foot pound. However ,my wrench only goes to 259 so I did that then a couple pulses with a impact

    Nice video, thanks. Can you share what's the method for disengaging the Porkensioner to remove belt tension for the next timing belt R&R? Appreciate your feedback.

    If your car turns over but doesn't start, pull the hose coming out of the fuel filter in the back. If no fuel is coming out, it could be a fuel filter relay, fuel filter, CPS, or LK CPU. Chances are it's the LK CPU but easier and cheaper to test the other items first. If you do have fuel, then your issue is at the engine.

      Hi Terry, thanks for the advice as you're on the right track. In the next video, we'll show how we troubleshot the problem to a bad fuel pump. The replacement should arrive on Monday, so fingers crossed!

      Terry, we're still having trouble getting our 928 to start again. After replacing the tank-to-fuel pump hose and the strainer (luckily the strainer came out without issue) , we confirmed the engine is not getting fuel. When I put direct 12v power on fuel pump when off the car, the pump runs. When we wired the fuel pump back into the car, we are not getting power to the pump, even when we try jumpering 30 and 87 on relay XX (fuel pump) . Any thoughts on what could be causing that?

      @@GuysWithRides1 Jumping the relay should fire up the pump. Your issue would lead me to think you have a wiring issue from the relay slot to the pump. How about a test light on the wires at the pump with the relay jumped? Hot or not? Might look behind the relay slot for a pulled wire or chewed on by mice.

      Terry Lessmann no power at pump when jumped. Tried testing continuity at the pump leads and my meter beeps whether jumper is in or not. I’m leaning towards looking behind that panel.

      @@terrylessmann2274 I guess the good news is that when I jumper pins 30 and 87 with my multimeter, it shows 12.31 volts, so I guess I have to trace the pair of wires from the pump towards the front of the car to determine whether there is a shunt somewhere now.

    Does this upgrade tensioner put the correct tension on the belt? What I mean is, does that old tension tool we are all too familiar with to adjust the OEM tensioner to the correct specs, still show the tension is in specs with this upgrade tensioner? Or does it even matter with this upgrade tensioner?

    • @GuysWithRides1
      @GuysWithRides1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Justin, the beauty of the Porken Tensioner is that you can throw away the old tension tool and having to do any adjustments. The system is designed to maintain the correct tension constantly throughout the life of the belt.
