The trd pro is 66k that’s just insane 70k with taxes for a midsize truck that’s almost 20k over the last gen wtf!! The ranger raptor 57k is a much better option v6 turbo 400hp 450tq

I completely agree the prices are absolutely ridiculous. But keep in mind toyota has always been expensive. In general with Toyota you're paying for name AND quality. The new gen has yet to prove itself but a few years ago when prices for everything blew up toyota was comparable to everything else, now they are raising prices to be more like usual.

What did you expect? A Pro is exotic, no different than a TRX or Raptor. And those things exceed a $100K. Just there to show what it can do. They will not be big sellers but they don't expect them to be. A $45K Off-road will be Toyota's #1 seller.

I really want to love the new Tacoma, but the prices are ridiculous. There’s a reason dealers have new Tacomas sitting on the lot right now and that’s never been seen with an all new Toyota truck.
Interest rates. A few years ago when interest rates where at 0 and prices where higher, you couldn't find a car.
Also, the mid size track game was way more competition now. A few years ago the Tacoma was the best buy and now not so much sense other brands have really made their mid size trucks more appealing
Every 2024 delivered to my dealer has lasted less than a week. I keep going back to look at one and it's gone!

@@cpftank09 Western PA and it's pretty common here for them to be gone. Probably because they dealers do not mark them up, they enjoy selling trucks.
90% of customers if not more would delete the rear tailgate technology to save on price.

The nissan was already 2 generations behind when it came out. If they made a real new one then it would also cost like 66k. For every option it doesn't have add like 2500$ and its right up with the Toyota TRD
@@nathanm8921 unless I missed something the Frontier today looks better all around than the Tacoma; prior to this update of this update of the Tacoma. It performed pretty well with the 2016-2023 Tacoma which was basically a refreshed and refined 2005 Tacoma which it was based.
It will be interesting if Nissan will wait another 25 years for a full refresh of their truck. Because that last generation was like last touched in about 1998.

A midsized truck shouldn’t cost more than 45k at most for the top trim with every available option. The consumer buys and sets the price. Stop buying overpriced vehicles

That's before markup. Anyone with older trucks, just keep them and hold off on buying new. Only way to drive the prices down is to not buy them. If you have a lot of money or need it immediately, then fine get it. Anyone using loans/financing (especially if you're young), stop paying these prices. Inflation and covid really fked up the automotive industry, but it's also people willing to be financially irresponsible to obtain these.

lol. Your colorados interior has a lifespan of 7-8 years. Due to cheap materials they degrade 3-4 times faster.

Showing the back seat tells you everything you need to know about the comfort of a Tacoma. Sat in one a couple of weeks ago. Being 6'1" 210lbs I barely fit in the front, and I couldn't sit in the back.
Plus to add salt to the wound there's no storage under the seat now. Not sure what they're thinking with that?

I call it the Tacoma curse. I'm not a big Toyota guy and neither are my family and friends but I rode in the back of a previous gen Taco and my knees were practically touching my chin. I'm 6 foot 1 in tall. It's an odd sensation to step UP into a vehicle that has such a high floor and limited vertical space. Older Tacos also had this problem but it was WORSE. Especially the early 2000s 4 door Tacomas.I was hoping that these new models were going to fix that decades old issue but apparently not. You don't get that sensation sitting in the back of a GM midsize. It feels like a regular truck in the back just with less space, without having that knees-in-your-chest sensation that these Tacomas are famous for.
@@beexiong2995 A 2024 Tacoma with a 6' bed is 2" LONGER than a 2008 F-150 while offering something like 30-40% less passenger and cargo space. This Tacoma hybrid also has a slightly worse EPA rating than the F-150 hybrid.
When these two are together it feels like a Cheech and Chong reunion at 65 years years old.
I come back to TFL vids now and then and am constantly turned off by Roman's negative outlook on nearly everything.
Been a Taco fan since the late 90s and finally bought my first Taco new in 2016. Was looking forward to this gen but now really considering a Ranger Raptor over the TRD Pro that I've been saving up for. The only thing that impresses me with this new gen Taco is the 2-tone paint scheme, nothing else seems even remotely worth the price.
In the same boat…been driving Toyotas for over twenty years but my money will be spent on a new RR later this year. Toyota got greedy AND delivered an inferior product from the last iteration.

Just did a little calculating, and it will take about 170,000 miles to earn back the $3700 buy in for the hybrid. Hardly seems worth it for the added cost and complexity

I just don’t understand the point of an expensive, heavy hybrid that doesn’t improve fuel economy, and only makes up for the shortcomings of a small turbo-4. Shortcomings that wouldn’t exist for a v6.

a fully loaded TRD Sport hybrid will run high 50k’s OTD. that’s Ranger Raptor money. that’s absurd. a loaded Frontier Pro4x can be bought around and under 40k. that new “Toyota tax” is unseemly and gross.
TRD Pro Taco will start at 75K in Canada and though I have always wanted one I will not support a vehicle made exclusively in Mexico.

Nah I’m not a fan of the price either but this is a dumb comment. Hybrids can be designed for fuel efficiency or gaining extra torque from an electric motor. The iForce MAX is the latter, not the former. Hence the “MAX” in the name for maximum torque.

There’s an old saying a sucker is born every day! And it still holds true today. Most people who don’t really need a pick up truck and brought just for the looks will pass on those prices.

You guys keep talking about efficiency while reviewing trucks, this is a heavy machine not a Camry.
TOYOTA should have given this hybrid Tacoma a bigger battery and a small engine to charge the battery when needed for a lot better efficiency and range but they chose to do it the other way around, which is what we have now, time will tell if this was the right choice for trucks.
It's a pretty truck. What's its purpose? It has a terrible payload. The hybrid has a lot more torque, yet doesn't tow more. The hybrid fuel economy sucks. The price is insane. I'm scratching my head. What. Is. The. Point? The Nissan Frontier seems to be the only midsize truck on the market with a level head on its shoulders. A naturally aspirated V6, 6ft bed, and the availability of a King Cab. Tacoma has become a "lifestyle vehicle" rather than an actual pickup truck. If you like driving a truck but don't really NEED a truck, and if you want hybrid fuel economy, the Ford Maverick makes a hell of a lot more sense than this Tacoma Hybrid.
The Frontier reliability sucks it no Toyota substitute.

Tbh if Toyota would have had made it a diesel they would get the same MPG without the added battery cost. The Ford f150 diesel got. 22 city, 30 highway and 25 combined.

There is a 1794 here at the dealer for 8k off msrp. Brings the total down to $62k. Has the saddle brown interior and the copper brown exterior. It's truly beautiful. The dealer is Penske Toyota in Surprise, Arizona. No black trim, has the chrome. But it looks amazing

That's kinda disappointing. It's sounding like the hybrid isn't getting significantly better gas mileage than the non-hybrid version. There may be an advantage in performance, although Andre and Roman didn't sound too convinced of that, so what's the point of all the added coast and complexity? It doesn't wound worth it to me.

Poor design for the touchscreen as it looks like they took a laptop and didn't know what to do with it so some engineers said let's just stick it to the dash. Then Toyota decided to stick it to consumers with pricing

2015 TRD Pro was more expensive than a 2015 Tundra SR5 Double Cab 5.7 4wd.
I think the new pricing is Toyota's way of steering people away from buying this impractical form factor of "mid-size trucks" lol. ALL mid-size trucks have really cramped and super upright 2nd row seats; so uncomfortable for long trips.
Been waiting a long time to get MPG numbers for the Tacoma Hybrid. Not impressed with 24mpg. My 2024 Maverick hybrid is getting nearly 40mpg. Was looking to get the new Tacoma to replace my 2022 Ram but I think I’ll just keep what I have and run the Maverick 90% of the time.
There’s no point to the hybrid. Even if you drive only in the city it will take around 150k miles for the hybrid system to pay for itself. The non-hybrid already has plenty of horsepower and torque. (Calculation assuming gas around $4/gal)
The hybrid isn’t for gas mileage, it’s to gain more torque. That’s the point of the hybrid. You’re making the assumption that all hybrids are for saving gas which is not true. They can either be tuned for fuel efficiency, or for torque.

@@jmpattillo Well, to be honest here, its riding on 33 inch offroad tires as well. Combine that with all the extra weight, and its actually getting significantly good gas mileage on top of the extra power. If you went to larger more aggressive tires on a third gen tacoma, and loaded it to the point that the 4th gen Trailhunter is with steel armor, its gas mileage would drop significantly. So with that being said, 22/24 is actually quite good.
For the sake of the point I am making, I'm still someone to buy a Nissan Frontier PRO-4X due to pricing. Or even a Ranger Raptor because its a lot less and comes fully loaded. But I do understand the point behind the hybrid powertrain and why its mandatory on the Trailhunter and PRO trims.

I wonder what the gas mileage is for non hybrid vs hybrid when towing a trailer. That would be an important piece of information. Maybe you can do an MPG loop using Blueberry and one of those hybrid Tacomas towing the same trailer?
It's nice Toyota moved the led lights in the bed above the wheel wells, I would like to see one in the front center of the bed .
If this Engine Option is made available on the TRD Prerunner Trim (The Trim that's only available in a Supercab/XtraCab), it would quickly become one the best-selling trims in the Tacoma.
Alas, If I remember correctly, it's only available on the TRD Sport, Pro, Limited, and Off-Road Trims, which makes this is REALLY Hard Sell.
I would honestly consider trading up from a '23 SR5 V6 4x4 IF they make this engine available in the TRD Prerunner Trim... In about a few years time.
I love the fact it has built in power inverter. But it's kinda pointless for a hybrid that doesn't really get better fuel economy, and any gain in power is offset by the increased weight.... and the price... yikes.
Nissan Frontier and Nissan Canyon are looking real good now.

Toyota REALLY missed the mark when they didn't give full-time 4WD to more trims. Like on the 4Runner you need to go to the more street worthy Limited to get it. My 1994 Cherokee had it! It was such a great feature.

Why bother with more hp and torque if it only tows 5k? My small 23ft camper weighs over 4k, empty. I was stoked for the release, but now just confused. Don't just put a battery in it, toyota. Change the suspension to keep towing numbers up to non hybrids. What's up with the engineers?
I was looking for a truck, considered a Tacoma and Santa Cruz and the Santa Cruz can tow 5000 lbs. 😂 Time to look at GMC.
Im gonna just say it, the MPG for this truck is PISS POOR for a hybrid. My dads '16 Sierra Denali 5.3 getts 21 to 22 mpg all day long on the freeway. Its a big, fully equipped, full size truck with full size truck towing, hauling capability, and space. This hybrid Taco doesnt make any damn sense in my opinion. I wouldve expected upper 20s MPG considering its a midsize. It seems like truck (full size or midsize) is stuck around 21-23 mpg for some reason, despite the small dispacement and hybrid technology.
Also, NiMH hybrid battery!? What is this, 1999? Time that Toyota joins the 21st century and starts equipping these hybrids with Lithium batteries.
Where is the battery? The Tundra Hybrid is useless if you want to store anything inside your cab.
Mpg numbers are a tad disappointing when my 2021 Sienna awd is raged 35/36 mpg. I've got a roof rack with solar panels and drive it as a full time courier and still hit those numbers or even better with mixed driving. On the highway I can get around 40-45+ mpg even.
Idiotic to compared mpg of a minivan to a truck. Sienna has the same engine as the Camry. Try towing a 5000 lb boat with it

The engine charges the batteries. The torque is constant power it doesn't simply run out. All hybrids do this even the 1st gen prius. Nothing new here

redarc makes a great plug & play in dash trailer brake controller for 4runners and tacoma’s with trailer hitches.
How did they get the same payload in that truck as they do in your truck when that truck has way more options and a battery?

This isn't far off the price of an XLT F150 powerboost. For how small the taco is, I really wish they would add the hybrid option to the lower trims.
The TRD Sport and TRD Offroad are available with it.

The common parameters I used were 12,000 miles per year and $3.65/gallon (national average as of today as reported by AAA). For the gas vehicle, I used the city mpg specs for the 2024 Tacoma Limited 4WD, which was 20 mpg as shown on Toyota's website. For the hybrid vehicle, I used the city mpg specs for the 2024 Tacoma Limited Hybrid 4WD, which was 23 mpg as shown on Toyota's website.. I used the base MSRP for both vehicles as shown on Toyota's website, which were $52,100 for the non-hybrid and $55,800 for the hybrid. The break even point where the gas savings of the hybrid equalled that of the extra price of the hybrid was 13 years. Most people don’t keep a vehicle that long. I'm all for hybrids, but there's just not much advantage here from a purely fuel economy standpoint for the Tacoma. That seems to be the case of most hybrids that use a longitudinally mounted setup with a traditional stepped gear transmission. They just don't get the huge efficiency gains of the planetary gearset with CVT hybrid setups such as in the Toyota Prius, Ford Maverick, etc.
Going with non hybrid after seeing performance isn't much better. Plus only 6ft bed in hybrid is trailhunter can't afford that. Thanks for sharing
Is this true? You can’t get a TRD Sport with hybrid and 6’ bed? That is unfortunate if it’s true since the range is also compromised without the hybrid option.
@@richardschmidt5865 yes for sure. I'm looking now for a 6ft bed non hybrid. Hybrid has been tested and not much improved performance only a couple more mpg. Totally disappointing hybrid

I am getting 24.1 MPG doing 80-85 MPH in my 23 Tacoma SR5 V6 4WD DBL Cab LB. I have the Overland Torque Tune Mild/Medium. Stock toyo tires 245/75R16. I am in TN so its not all flat terrain either. You guys should test the 24 against a 23 V6 4wd tuned! I am sure the tuners will cook something up for the 24s to.
NA engines will always get better mpg in mountains. Lower psi injectors, not turbo needed to spool up. Not a fan of turbos myself.

lmaooooooooooo i get 20.1 to 22 mpg on my 21 v6 . 18-19 city . This is just entertainment for me on TH-cam . I have a paid off 21 Tacoma never getting a auto loan again . my 21 was 35k how tf the new tacoma 60k
That mpg... Is not great!! I get that in my 2016 SR5, TACO with the V 6.
I still think the Tacoma is the best truck for long term reliability. But, for the price being charged for this truck, I would expect the VIN to start with a 'J' and not a '3'.
It's a bummer that Toyota is only offering the Trailhunter with the hybrid powertrain and 6' bed. I think the Trailhunter is very cool but didn't Toyota say that the hybrid Tacomas would have 1707 payload ratings? With metal bumpers and underbody protection I get why the Trailhunter only has around 1,300 payload rating but it would be nice to actually be able to put lightweight camper on a Tacoma. I have a crew cab half ton with a 6.5' bed now and would like to get something a little smaller.
I like to have seen Toyota keep the doors the same in the back as the front seems like a cost cutting thing other than a super nice job on the new Tacoma you missed the lane your turn into build up speed merge into traffic you not have to wait for cars to clear Towing Max test will be good to see Toyota Tacoma vs Toyota 4Runner see if there any difference
My 2024 broke the first day I had it. It’s in the dealership with no part available. That was two weeks ago. 50k later and no truck. I wish I was TFL. At least they would send a team and repair it. So disappointed
Couldn’t agree more with the guys at TFL….they should have focused on fuel efficiency and not torque for the hybrid engine. Getting 1mpg better than stock is pathetic

Insane pricing on the Tacomas!!! I really hope consumers balk and Toyota has to back down. We are on the edge of a huge economic crash I feel. Consumers just can't keep absorbing this high inflation on everything.
