- Shocking Greek ORIGINS To Genesis | 4k Documentary
The Genesis creation account usually gets compared to the mythological world of Mesopotamia for good reasons, but so does the Greek creation myths such as Hesiod's Theogony. The shocking part about this documentary is how we explain why Genesis demythologizes it's creation account in Genesis 1 while going mythological in Genesis 2-3 which has better parallels to Plato's Timaeus rather than the Babylonian, Assyrian or just Mesopotamian world. We explain why the Greek origins better explain the two accounts which often times gets attributed to two different authors centuries apart in the Documentary Hypothesis. Russell Gmirkin has a revolutionary hypothesis that explains why the God Elohim in Genesis 1 has a different name from YHWH in Genesis 2-3. His answer resides in Plato's Timaeus. Plato has two creation accounts, one more scientific and done by the demiurge or crafter while the other account is done by the children of the creator such as Prometheus or Athena. Genesis & Plato have shocking comparisons from the lesser deities creating humanity from clay and breathing life into them to the Generations of Ouranous and Gaia in both creations. You won't want to miss this documentary.
One of the earliest, most renowned, and authoritative theogonies preserved in written form is Hesiod's Theogony, which dates back to around 700 BCE in ancient Greece. However, the concept of anthropomorphic family groups of gods extends far beyond Greece, spanning across various civilizations in the Ancient Near East.
In Egypt, we witness the portrayal of gods in anthropomorphic family structures, as exemplified in Plutarch's work on Isis and Osiris. Babylonia presents its own version of divine lineage in the Enuma Elish, while Assyria depicts these dynamics through the Assyrian redaction of the Enuma Elish, featuring Ashur as the replacement for Marduk. The Hurrians and Hittites contribute to this rich tradition with their epic of Kumarbi, and the Phoenicians, as evidenced by Philo of Byblos, add their unique perspective. The "Canaanite" Ugaritic texts of Ras Shamra, particularly in the Baal Cycle, implicitly reveal similar themes of divine family connections.
Notably, the "Canaanite" tradition of El and his seventy sons directly influences the biblical text. Here, the god of the children of Israel is often associated with either El, the ruler of the divine council, or one of El's sons. These echoes of divine familial relationships resonate throughout biblical narratives.
For further exploration and detailed sources on the topics discussed in this video, I recommend referring to Gmirkin's book. It serves as a valuable resource, shedding light on the origins and interconnectedness of these ancient texts.

Please tell me what your favorite part of this documentary was.
The fairytale that would lead someone to think it is Greek.
The singing in the intro, though I feel maybe you could record some bars yourself 😂
Sea shell 🎶. Overall, it was very good.
Sourced list of comparisons between verses after half a vid of digressions on imagining things and tangents over rather broad speculations.
I don't want to make it seem mean, there's worthwhile explanations and I guess significant comparisons, but it's so watered down that without speeding up I think I can only follow if I get high first.
I really like how you brought so many origin stories together into one video. I've heard many times about the umarit, Marduk, and the baal cycle and how they influenced the yahwist Canaanite's into forming Judaism. But it was great to hear them all pieced together in one video
Wow, now I know why I received a bit of Greek Classical history in high school. There were hints to this theory right in front of my face for decades, but my subservience to Judeo-Christianity prevented me from seeing it. I think Gmirkin is onto something, and maybe this time the critical mass of people will be reached.
I totally relate my friend.
Beautiful written... Here is why you didn't made the connection with all that hints right in front of you!: Christianity was created by order of roman emperor Constantine, a dictator who wanted to uniform the roman legions witch consisted of a couple of hundred differed ethnicities / religions, and convert them into the "roman soldiers of god". The Romans took Greek Theogony (-Not a religion by what we understand as religion, but the logical description of the cosmic order of the Universe/ the gods are symbols for different cosmic lows, natural forces etc ), and Jewish mythology, who had all ready taken for there religion from the Greek theogony during the Hellenistic period/ combined with what they took earlier from the Babylonians to create Judaism (fun fact Synagogue is a Greek word meaning "gathering", because they where established in Alexandria /Hellenistic period - till then public temples didn't exist in Judaism), and composed what we know as Christianity. Evidence to that is the attempt for the complete destruction of the ancient Greek world that flowed,(temples, statues, scripts etc). This was do to an effort to wipe out all evidence of a crime, humanity still suffers from today...
Derek, I love you and your work. I also wanted to say I honestly feel a little bit repulsed by your titles sometimes. If I see another "This is gonna BLOW MY MIND!!!" I'm gonna go crazy! I'm being half-sarcastic but half-truthful. People looking for the truth often have a really hard time clicking on sensationalist headlines like this because it often indicates hype with no substance. Just letting you know how a big fan sees it from an outside point of view. Hoped you would want the feedback.
You are doing so well with your channel, especially in the last year or so - wow! Your enthusiasm, hunt for interesting guests, and interviewing skills have really taken this channel somewhere. Congrats!
Seems like the men in black had a talk with him...😮
I find them quite offputting myself. I'd imagine it might get a few more clicks, but they aren't going to be the type of clicks that watch the full videos or drive useful engagement.
This Derek guy is killing it on TH-cam! Thanks! ❤❤❤
Thank you 😊
This is a no brainer to me. The stories of Pandora’s Box and Prometheus are similar to Adam and Eve and the fall of man. The flood story is featured in both the Bible and Greek mythology. Cain and Abel is similar to the story of Romulus and his brother. In text called The Theology of the Phoenicians, El is referred to as Kronos and used a sword to unalive his son, similar to Abraham and Isaac.
Thank you for your comment my friend.
We do know that the Greeks were heavily influenced by near east mythologies.. unlike the rest of the Indo-Europeans. If you search for them, you can find similarities in any mythology.. I think it's no more than coincidence that Pandora and the rest, are reminiscent of biblical stories.
@@Abilliphit's not a coincidence at all the Bible stole multiple stories from multiple peoples
Wouldn’t the story of Romulus and Remus been much later than the Cain and Abel story? Genuine question, would love a reply.
@@yahweh2787 yes you are right
Just watching the introduction with Derek here, and he says something about the Song of the Hoe and then there's a short pause for about 2 seconds and then he says: And I'm talkin about an ancient gardening instrument. 😆

Scholars have been bewildered as to Japheth's identity in Noah's blessing (Genesis 9:27); some have noted the similarity of Japheth's name to the Greek Titan Iapetos (Japetus), but are at a loss to explain the historical connection between these individuals. Why would a Hebrew bless a Greek, or a descendant of the Greeks, to co-rule the coveted Promised Land, Canaan, with the Israelites, Shem commonly being identified with the Israelites? The Primary History (Genesis-2 Kings) never identifies an event that saw Noah's prophecy fulfiled, that Canaan would be co-ruled by Japheth and Shem- perhaps this was a "hoped for event" which would transpire sometime in the future, after the 560 B.C. Primary History had been written in the Exile?
Genesis 9:27 RSV
"God enlarge JAPHETH, and let him dwell in the tents of Shem; and let Canaan be his slave."
The case for Iapetos being Japheth:
Professor Richard S. Hess (1993) was unable to establish a West Semitic etymology or an onomastic environment for Japheth, and ended up concluding that it is most likely derived from Greek traditions about Iapetus/Iapetos:
"Japheth is the one name among those found in the narratives of Genesis 6-9 which has neither a West Semitic etymology nor an onomastic environment. Unlike Ham's son Canaan, it has no comparison with place names, either. Thus we must look elsewhere for a source for this name. Neiman (1973) observes the origin of the descendants of Japheth in the Table of Nations as located in the region of Hellas and the islands of the Aegean Sea (p.122). Whether every group mentioned can be so located is beside the point. We have sufficient evidence in the preponderance of place names and gentilics to seek Japheth among the Greeks and their ancestors. It is there that Neiman finds a comparable name in Iapetos, the Titan father of Prometheus and the progenitor of Humanity. The figure already appears in Homer's Iliad (VIII, 479) and in Hesiod's Theogony."
(cf. p. 31. "The Origins of the Personal Names in Genesis 1-11." Richard S. Hess. Studies in the Personal Names of Genesis 1-11. [Alter Orient und Altes Testament, band 234]. Verlag Butzon & Bercker Kevelaer. 1993. ISBN 3-7666-9869-9)
Greek myths of a great flood (Deucalion's Flood, in Greece) make mention of flood survivors called the Iapetaide, from whom the Greeks claimed descent.
Could Greek myths, in part, underlie Noah's Flood in Genesis, noting Deucalion's relation to Iapetos (biblical Japheth)?

Fantastic video mate. Well done!
What a beautiful and intriguing presentation.
Derek - I think you left out a vital piece, the MOST vital piece, of Russell Gmirkin's theory. As he has said, scholars had long noticed the close relation of Plato's Timaeus to the genesis account, but they had thought Plate derived his ideas from the OT. It was the realization that the Elephantine papyri show that c. 500-400 BC, the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem had no knowledge of any of these biblical stories. Meaning the bible had not yet been written at that point, so the inspiration had to flow the other way, FROM Plato TO genesis.
How can one say that due to the papyri we know for certain they didn’t yet develop or assimilate such beliefs yet such as a genesis account ?
Thank you for your comment my friend.
@@ancientflames Aaahhhh! That's the key to the whole thing. The Jewish sect there was corresponding with the Jewish high priests in Jerusalem, 500-400 BC and there were dozens, maybe hundreds of letters back and forth. There was discussion of the "Feast of the Unleavened Bread" but without any mention of this being a vital part of what later became written about the Exodus. (I.e., it never happened.) They asked if they could reconstruct their temple and the high priests said sure (not sure where in the OT it said the only temple was to be in Jerusalem). One guy mentions beating his worker because he won't work on the sabbath. Oh, yeah, this sect was polytheistic, yet okay in the eyes of Jerusalem.
There is a lot more - a little search on Google will spell it out.
That's exactly what he's explaining in the video.
@@mrzfunk EXACTLY! Read my first remark (although maybe it isn't clear). I was trying to ADD an important part of why Derek's account was true, not to counter it.

Man, very impressive work, it's really interesting. The first thing that came to mind is that it's not that big of a leap from Craftsman to Potter.
It's a shame the people who hold the bible in the highest regard have no clue just how interesting the book is.

Such a value, good job man.
Awsome narration. I'm fascinated.
I was a pentecostal christian for 20 years, then in 2020 I started studying the hebrew roots, and when you study torah each week, at some point you can say: Something is wrong here.
So I had so many questions like: Why all these horns in the temple? Why if God says not to sacrifice your kids, he sacrificed His own? Why the kingdom of the north is always bad, while the kingdom of the south is like always good? Why if God gives life then allows to give bitter waters to a woman when the man is jealous? That will killed the baby. And so on, and so on.
And these questions I used to know the answer when I was a fanatic pentecostal and hebrew roots believer. I don't want to hurt nobody's feelings, but so many things are strange in the Bible. When you have a sunday or shabat teacher that is saying whatever he thinks are the answers, you are not going to think with your own head.
I started watching the videos of the unearthed bible of Israel Filkenstein, I started studying the Bible parallelism, the judaism mythology and these investigations never finish. Because is a rabbit hole. Right now I see the Bible like a book that its stories can help you in a spiritual way, but not as a book that doesn't has mistakes. Because the Bible talks of more gods, not only one. Churches want you to think is only one but is not.
Remember Jesus words. Which father if you ask bread will give you stones. So I believe that Jesus father wasn't the one of the OT. We think we know God, each religion says, my god is the true one. But they are only men trying to explain god. I can contine writing and writing, but I stop here. They are too many things to say.
Pentecostal here. The documentary hypothesis has long been debunked as a dumpster fire theory. I'm sorry it shook your faith as you explain. By what you wrote above I can tell you were a trinitarian pentecostal... maybe look into the doctrine of oneness of God. Just a friendly suggestion. I think you will find it more thoroughly consistent with the Old Testament.
Hello Veronica. I left the Catholic faith back in the 80's, then I left Buddhism and the "born again" Christians. Now I find myself leaving my Jewish family, which I joined 30 years ago, because of abortion.
Here's the thing, how can a God who created the Universe take Human form, to pay for the sins of the Nazis and the Communists? No can do, I thought.
How can a loving and caring "Father" submit His "only" begotten son to such torture and death? This is Irrational, I thought.
However, if you love your children you're willing to do anything for them including walking through fire or going to through hell.
So it's not so irrational after all.
The characteristic of the OT God is discipline and obedience, including punishment and death.
The calling card of the God of the NT is forgiveness and love: It assumes you know what the rules are and it invites you not only to follow them correctly but also with meaning and, with meaning, go beyond the rules... to demonstrate your love for God.
But both the OT and the NT Gods are the same, not different than a parent teaching and advising his children. "Don't play with matches, you'll get burned," "eat your vegetables," etc.
Now, Derek here points out that the Jewish God is not the only God, just as the Greeks, Hindus, Vickings, Mayans, Aztecs, Incas, etc., believed. There are "other" gods as well.
But these gods are gods with a lower case "g" and they're fallible to the same temptations mankind is: Hatred, envy, lust, gluttony, etc.
These gods all know there is an "ultimate" God out there, the Creator of All, the one who moves the oceans and delights on a flower or a butterfly.
That God is the one that both the OT and the NT are trying to show us, although in different ways.
We just get stuck in the here and now and fail to see the big picture as some "saints" have in the past.
There are accounts of levitation, bilocation, telepathy, and what they call "incorruptible" bodies after death... both from Saints and from some Buddhist monks.
The OT also mentions the resurrections performed by Elijah and Elisha, just like NT mentions the resurrections of the daughter of Jairus and of Lazarus.
These and many more "super-natural" events are only possible in or with "communion" with the real God out there, the creator of the Universe and the Laws of Nature. He made them, He can break them. We, by ourselves, can't.
I think He, the ultimate God, sent these other gods to fashion us (to their image) and teach us right from wrong... and to learn what love is.
Finally... Keep searching, don't despair. God is waiting for you.
What I do is pray. May be you can too.
@@brianroberts5793
You are lying. The documentary hypothesis may have different versions but no scholar thinks the Old testament was written by Moses or one author.
I am sorry that indoctrination and cognitive dissonance prevents you from seeing that the Bible is full of errors, contradictions, anachronisms and immorality and fails both historically and scientifically.
Maybe you should look into the Epic of Gilgamesh or the Enuma Elish. They are not only consistent with the O.T they are also much older. Just a suggestion
My favorite part is in the beginning all the way through to the end😊 or I guess the easy way to say it is my favorite part is all of it😊😊
Thank you so much!!!
AWESOME WORK!!!
I didn’t want this to end
God has been revealing things to mankind from its dawn, the Greeks and everyone else amalgamated those stories from even older ones that have been told from person to person for centuries, this is also why God sent a series of messengers throughout time to update and straighten the message to mankind.

Growing up, I had my fair share of humanistic education, learning Latin at school and some (too little!) Greek later at university, and I've always been an absolute fan of Greek mythology and its countless beautiful reflections in European art and literature since the Renaissance - but it never even once ocurred to me to draw the superclear connection between Plato/Timaeus and Genesis! Why? - Although a practically life-long Atheist myself, I was influenced enough by my (literally!) Judaeo-Christian teachers and peers to be axiomatically convinced, that Genesis (like some of the most archaic parts of the Pentateuch) predated Platonism for hundreds of years! I never ever have been told, that the Genesis-stories are (could be? - No! Are!) late-written PREQUELS, heavily influenced by a Judaism already deeply embedded into the Greek cultural and intellectual world! - Thank you so much, Derek, for introducing Gmirkins fascinating thoughts and conclusions! I am enthralled!
I agree, the Judaea-Christian influence is so much a part of our society even though what Christian’s teach is ridiculous to many of us - I have tried going to church but couldn’t get on with the closed minds of many of the people there and the way they think they’re right about everything and that others are wrong - most of the church elders, preachers etc turned into 3 year olds when I tried talking to them and so I never got anywhere and eventually stopped going although I miss many of the elderly ladies who went who are being robbed blind and who told me they see exactly what I’m saying but they’re upbringing of keeping their mouth shut is so ingrained in them that it’s almost impossible for them to change but they didn’t agree with the way I was treated by the preachers etc because they said there was zero justification for it and I was never anything but polite, friendly and helpful even if I had my own thoughts and ideas

It is always fun to shock Bible apologists that their God's inspired scriptures were merely plagiarized stories from the Greeks or Sumerian/Babylon. Cheers!
Try looking at the etymology and meanings behind the names in the greek cosmogony. You can gain great philosophical, social and historical insights. Something that faschinates me more is the meaning of El, found both in Greek(Ελ) and hebrew. In greek it means enlighten or with light/bright, found in many words like H-el-ios(sun), Hellas(greece in greek, Eλ-λας, meaning rocks with light) Also the prometheus story is very similar to the Vedic Matarisvan myth and in Sanskrit Pramat(phonetically almost the same as prometheus) means thief.

Actually, it might be the other way around. "The East Face of the Helicon: West Asiatic Elements in Greek Poetry and Myth" by British philologist and scholar Martin Litchfield West (published M. L. West) is worth a read in this area. Also, the late Dr. Michael Heiser's commentary on Genesis as a refutation of Akkadian Apkallu creation myths and legends is also very interesting.
What do you mean it might be the other way around? Did the narrator make an error?
No!!! It has been proven that these stories came from Greece
Absolutely. Genesis does not follow the ancient myths but contradicts them. The chaos came after the creation of the heavens and the earth, not before. There is no doubt that the ancient greeks had definitely been influenced by sumerian myths.
@@jamesstevenson7725It really boggles the mind how people fall for this, "NEW HISTORY UNEARTHED!!! THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING!!!" sensationalist drivel that is constantly being churned out by ad hoc TH-cam channels these days. This goes for "scholars" as well, such as Carrier and Nixey.
@@vacaloca5575please point me to the clear contradiction(s), I'm very curious. In my spiritual journey Abrahamic religion confirmed the pagan beliefs having the same substance under it's different form, I have not seen contradictions or antagonism.
The idea that the creators of Hebrew & Christian scripture *didn't* take inspiration from the mythology of neighbouring & contemporary cultures is as ludicrous as the idea that they were intending to write *literal history* .
As the idea that neighboring cultures didn't take ideas from Judeans, Israelites, or other Canaanites. Makes sense it would also happen.
But I think they did intend to write history the way they saw it, through the glasses of their beliefs. I guess it's similar to the war of Troy in it's historicity.
Very well done. The allegorical value of the old texts seems more to be some kind of blueprints for the stages of human developments. I wonder if the snake in Eden, putting the perfect dualistic forcefield off balance, is the force needed to start things. Perfect balance is also a form of stagnation.
That’s why I ride a bicycle 😂
My personal belief is that the Pantheon of the gods referred to in the Bible still exists, with El at the helm. And Yahweh tricked a substantial portion of the world population into believing he's the sole god in the group.
Thanks for your comment. I personally don't think they exist, but I do appreciate your comment.
I seriously doubt El exists. He reads just like Greek mythology. Then it also becomes clear that Yahweh being his son is also fictional.
"When El was young, he came across two beautiful Goddesses washing their clothes in the Sea. They were Athirat (Asherah) and the Goddess Rahmaya, and, after buttering them up by cooking a meal for them, he asked them to choose between being his daughters or wives. They choose the latter and became the mothers of the Gods Shachar "Dawn" and Shalim "Dusk"."
"I should add here that it is very clear from the grammar that the noun nachalah in v. 9 should be translated “inheritance.” *Yahweh receives Israel as his “inheritance” (nachalah), just as the other sons of El received their nations as their inheritance (nachal, v. 8).* With this verb, especially in the Hiphil, the object is always what is being given as an inheritance. Thus, Israel is given to Yahweh as his inheritance. ((Here I’m indebted to Dan McClellan.)) It would make no sense for Elyon to give himself an inheritance. Moreover, as I’ve argued elsewhere, it is not just the Gentile nations that are divided up according to the number of the sons of El. It is all of humankind, i.e., “the sons of Adam.” This clearly includes Israel. And the sons of Adam are not divided up according to the number of the sons of El, plus one (i.e., plus Elyon). They are divided up, according to the text, solely according to the number of the sons of El. *Thus, that Yahweh receives Israel as his inheritance makes Yahweh one of the sons of El mentioned in v. 8. Any other construal of the text would constitute its rewriting."*

The Greek New Testament is obvious in the Christian origins
Greek God ZEUS and Goddess LETO
Had a Son of God called APOLLO.
Temples and sacrifices on Sunday in the Greco World. Associated with the Sun in the fifth century Apollo temples were depicted as Sol Invictus (the conquering Son)
Apollo Son of Zeus and LETO
The Truth, The light, The teacher of children, The patron of Shepherds, the bringer of laws to the nations, The
Purifier, he defeated the Python(Serpent)
Jesus Son of God
The Truth, The light, The teacher of children. The leader of Shepherds,
The bringer of laws to the nations, His sacrifice purifies, he defeated the
Devil (the serpent)
Worshipped on a Sunday.
Coincidence ?
Gets weirder. There are clear pictures of Jesus in art for centuries all over the world. So everyone would recognize him.
Jesus died and ascended to heaven.
The Hebrew word for “The one who descends” is “Jared”
The Son of Zeus and “LETO”
Look at Jared Leto. Look at the Song
“Walk on water” “This is War”
Jesus walked on water!!!
Look the words and subliminal symbology videos of 30 Seconds to Mars.
Is something up there creating “a beautiful lie” about who we are.
I personally think there’s some truth in every mythological story…that we were created by a God (if you like) and the immortals have been communicating with us since the beginning of time, they have always been amongst us, as warriors, poets, musicians, artists inspiring us to ‘experience’ life and religion just hijacks the message.
Which is embrace life, learn, love and get ready to take those experiences with no regrets as your soul moves on to an existence where you can no longer be broken and feel the pain and consequences that you have to learn from…
and the overall creator “The all knowing, all seeing, all powerful IRIS”
That sends the immortals to live among us, over and over again.
“Doesn’t want the world to see Him,
Because it knows we wouldn’t understand (because we wouldn’t understand grief, pain, loss we would demand answers and be angry at a God, because of suffering)
When everything in this world is made to be broken…
God wants us to know who I AM”
So he sends his archetypes, they are princes, soldiers, Poets, Teachers, Actors and Singers, with songs and stories, they become legends and sing and write about these things and they keep coming back displaying their God given gifts to inspire us (away from religions, institutions of those who PRETEND to be like gods, the priests, the popes, the sociopathIc leaders).
I'm with you on this one! Who is to say that all this is fictional? These writings that predate Elohim in Judaism doesn't mean that it's fiction, IF anything it only reinforces these beliefs&traditions. All this is telling us is that EVERYTHING IS INTERCONNECTED & that there IS MUCH MORE that we don't know or refuse to understand or refuse to believe regarding the interconnectedness of the ALL. They say there is truth in every story, hence it makes sense that the fact these stories have withstood the test of time suggests within them lies some truth if not a majority of truth. Truth ALWAYS withstands the test if time, whether that truth has been changed, altered, added to or deducted from, there'd always a remaining majority of truth in the retelling. I don't see how or why this would disprove the bible in any way. What it would serve is the purpose of showing the similarities that withstood that test and therefore continued on making it super powerful! It was so powerful that it continued being passed on (albeit with changes) but never the less still passed on with its beautiful secrets being coded within the newly given versions awaiting its rediscovery. That doesn't make the new Testament any less fact, considering that one believes all this to be actual truth and not fictional.
@MythVisionPodcast I'm just curious do you believe in Aliens 👽? If you don't then it makes sense not to believe this either but if by chance you or any1 for that matter believes in Aliens then perhaps ppl were encountering other beings. There is so much interplay between Greek, Middle Eastern, and Egyptian culture, thanks in large part to Indo-European culture spread. I love that it's finally coming to the surface. The one thing I would ask though is why are you using elohim as a proper name? While it *became* one of the names for the Jeudo-Christian god, likely in the late Second Temple era, it's original usage in ancient Hebrew was as a plural for the noun "god". El was a proper name, but there also el and elohim were used as common nouns. Am I mistaken?
No, you are entirely correct.
I suspect this may have been done deliberately in the video because he is aware of addressing a modern Christian audience and many will have been falsely told Elohim means god, some will just be repeating the mistake in ignorance and apologists would be aware they are covering up how the story was ripped off but featured indeed a male god - El and his partner Ashara the goddess together with a pantheon of lesser gods. The decision to have only one god, and for that god to be male, was made, this forced editing the story. The female goddess was completely written out and the pantheon of lesser gods are covered up as angels, or more widely under the terms ‘us’ and ‘our’ within the phrase ‘ let us ( correct as Elohim plural as El & Ashara + lesser gods ) make man in our ( again El & Ashara + lesser gods ) image.
Captivating ❤
So, I'm instantly interested in where the pre-200 BC history came from now. This, at least in the moment, seems to make Sigmund Freud's ideas about Atum more probable. Also, are David and Solomon purely mythological figures like Hercules, or are they historical figures that we don't recognize that the Bible shares with some other historical tradition? Fascinating stuff. History is so much better than dogma.
you can go back further than the greeks to assyrian and sumerian tablets for this story...

The archeological evidence that is used to prove the existence of David is debatable. The house of David "may" be mentioned on a ancient Steele.
There is no evidence for a united kingdom or of the wise and famous King Solomon or his temple outside of the Bible .

It is much more likely that Plato and Early Judaism were influenced by more regional general creation myths. What I find interesting is that early Judaism didn't have much of a concept of individual salvation, it was more about earthly survival for the tribe (may the rains be good this year, may the other tribe be struck down ...), but Judaism had this overarching one universal God for all and so fostered the idea of universal law/universal justice whereas Christianity (having formed in the much wealthier Roman times) was all about "me me me", my salvation which gave rise to the concept of the individual as supreme/individual rights. The Greeks, of course, had this stunning intellectual analysis though not yet quite connected with experiment. and all these forces created the West on rational foundations. I hope we can keep it.
It's cool that you were able to get Tony Robbins to narrate the literary segments. 🗿
John Romer’s “Seven Wonders” documentary is worth a watch. He points out that the early images of Jesus in eastern Christendom, had the face and beard copied from Phidias’ statue of Zeus (which was in Constantinople at the time).
And the solar crown was copied from Helios.
They had to use a recognisable face because most people couldn’t read.
This face of Jesus also carried on into Western Christian imagery.
The face on the Turin Shroud has been likened to Da Vinci. When in fact it is actually the face of Zeus, perhaps the face of Phidias himself, the greatest artist and architect of all time.
You should check Apollonios Tyaneus. An ancient greek whose image was used by the first christians. Also, in ancient roman images, Christ does not resemble the Christ we now know at all.
Do you believe the Biblical God exists?
WOW! You continue to blow my mind, Derek! What a beautiful production! I have witnessed you go from an 'Oh, Gosh, Gee! It must be understood that under Antiochus Epiphanes, the Scriptures and the worship of YHWH were strictly prohibited. Even when Matatias Maccabee began the period of liberation which eventually occurred, there was not much spiritual prosperity and then Rome arrived. Doesn't this man know that YHWH and ELOHIM, El-Shaddai, ʼĒl ʻElyōn are ALL names of the same GOD? These names indicate the attribute of the Most High
Thanks!
Thank you very much for your superthanks my friend.

I understand that you’re out to create content and that’s great; you do you. But, I hope that you understand that we have choices: 1) We can hold on to a belief, making it our truth, closing our doors to doubt, and discover the spiritual depth provided by that path, or we can 2) open the door to the infinite possibilities, forever partially doubting the current one in order to make room for the next one and grasping only a shallow understanding of each permutation/derivative, or we can remove ourselves from spiritual work entirely. “Believing” in something but not seeking it is equivalent to option 3-forsaking the sacred task of spiritual growth. So when you ask “why turn a blind eye to…” such and such source, the answer is option 1 and 3. 😅
Holy crap! I think this scholar is on to something. Having read the Bible and studied multiple times, including textual criticism, this claims of greek influence are very, very possible. We just have to remember that most preserved texts from Genesis are very recent in dating and the texts that supposedly are more ancient with evidences, like Job, Isaiah and Psalms, actually portray battles and various myths you dont encounter in Genesis as you pointed out. Also remarkable how the helenistic battles (Gold, Silver and Iron people) are exactly like in Daniel (although it is already mostly considered an helenistic book by serious scholars). It doesn't seem so much of a stretch to consider the greek sources specially to Genesis to be the same.
My favorite part was the parts demonstrating how similar Yahweh is to the earthly minor gods with the passages.
Thank you for such a wonderful comment. I hope people continue to investigate the parallels or similarities between Biblical and Greek sources.

God has been revealing things to mankind from its dawn, the Greeks and everyone else amalgamated those stories from even older ones that have been told from person to person for centuries, this is also why God sent a series of messengers throughout time to update and straighten the message to mankind.

The film is beautifully photographed and produced and explores some interesting concepts and possibilities. I think offering up the use of the plural by God to prove polytheistic and coed gods and goddesses running around Eden is a little thin though. This could just be the use of the "Royal We". It switches back to the singular and says "male and female he made them". It's interesting but it's not evidence.
BTW, I'm an atheist and I'm with Dr. Carrier on mythicism. You don't need to convince me of that. I just think that we should offer more substantial evidence to those unfamiliar with this perspective.
