To reinforce the spine of your book you can place a heavier piece of lace/ material over the spine.

Great idea! My future son in law is an artist. What a beautiful gift I can make for him. Its hard for me to come up with ideas for hand stitching for men. I have extra linen and burlap. I hope I do you proud!

See if you can find something personal to him to stitch onto it Dawn! If you can make a hole in it you can stitch it on...

Many years ago when my eldest was in secondary school one of their first tasks at the beginning of the year was to cover their text and work books. Odd bits of wallpaper were very useful. But it was always an issue with the ring binders whose sharp corners shredded any paper covering. So I sewed fabric covers. She definitely was a bit hesitant about her whacky mother but when she went into school her mates were in awe. She was soon adding to this with little pockets and decorations. To this day I'm still proud of my "invention" and it's so lovely to see you doing the same. Which reminds me, one of my Christmas presents is the Bayeux Tapestry book which definitely needs protected !!

Hi Sarah. Thanks for the video. I am a patron. I was a professional bookbinder for over 30 years and while training at (what was then) the London School of Printing i did embroidery bindings for my end of year design projects, four in all. One of these was The Poems of Wilfred Owen, and my colour choice was very similar to the colours of your book cover. I used scrim, reverse leather and calico with slow stitching to represent an explosion in no man’s land. Of course it is a very different project to yours but if you are interested I would be happy to send some photographs. It was nice to see yours which made me get out my book and look at it again.

Stupid question coming...what does 'slow stitching' mean ??? ....to me all handwork is 'slow', as opposed to machine embroidery, that's the beauty of it

Very much enjoyed watching the video. This would be a great way to introduce children to needlework as they can use scraps of fabric and embellish it with any little trinkets they have, and there's no right or wrong, only what's in their imagination. Love your inspiration.

The best of all my favorite things; embroidery, hand sewing and junk journals! Now I can use all the embroidery pieces I’ve done, but don’t want to frame and hang them on the wall! I’ve gone journals I finished decades ago, but are quite boring on their outsides. No longer! Loved this video.

I've the snake one blue tacked onto my bedroom wall. I got them from the couple who do the African fabrics. They dd a talk for my one stitch group pre covid. I'm assuming they're still trading however,, they are both getting older and may have retired.
Great video as always, you never fall to cheer me up, thank you.

Were your ears burning today. 2 of us in our embroidery circle of 6 friends, "discovered" your vlogs independently, in the last few weeks. We were enthusing and telling the other 4 all about your channel. I showed them the 5 different flowers that I'd managed to do in chain stitch and French knots. And the different ways of filling a circle. And your 5 different SUNFLOWERS. Your channel has been a game changer for me. I've been embroidering my own freestyle designs for 5 years. A million thank you s Sarah.
