simple tweak for the propeller issue, put one rubber band over the hinge point of the wheel mounts, with a knot tied so the tips are held up without blocking the area.
Thanks. I was in Tahoe for almost a week and only that one day (last Saturday) was good. The day before was just old icy snow and the rest was super windy and stormy.
Beautiful sceanery, Samm! And great idea for skis. Makes me want to digg innto the drawer and get out the skis for my Multiplex Magister :-) Thanks for inspirational videos!!
Great video. We just got a bunch of snow in the east so I want to get some skis on my planes. That lake looks like it is not completely frozen in one of the shots.
If you make the ski's a bit bigger the weight will spread out more over the surface. So then the plane need less power to take off from the snow! Good job! Nice vid!
Dubro skis. But if you just like making stuff they are cool. You are lucky you are young and have the time to build your own stuff the older you get the less free time you will have... awesome vid.......
I love this video. Looks like a lot of fun, watched several times. I was thinking you could put a peg or brad in the plywood right in front of the pivot of that front ski, then run the rubber band back to somewhere on the underbelly. Or if you rebuild, just cut a little horn in the plywood above the pivot. Either way, the rubberband would be out of the way and you could use the larger prop.
Nice skis. Didnt realize you were in California. I'm just over the hills in Clearlake area. Still have this plane on my to do list after I finish my 200% ft Guinea pig.
Thanks man! I go back and fourth between Walla Walla WA, and Santa Cruz CA. I met my parents in Tahoe after a 12 hour drive. I went to clear lake once. It was pretty big and not very clear haha. Man a 200% Guinea pig sounds huge!
I agree with you, skies are the ultimate take off and landing fun. I hope there will be snow at least 1-2 months this year so I can try my skies on the Carbon cub 20cc from H9. I use skies on 1,9m epo Cessna, and on 2m 8kg 53cc Great Planes CAP 232. They work great. And I see you like to build, I like your concept. I have my own design, maybe you will like it too. I wanted to keep the skies paralel to the fuselage in flight, also to have some movement so that the plane can drop the tail at landing or on the ground but with minimum strings or elastic lenghts. So, 13 years ago when I had my first plane a Robbe Cardinal 1,5m epo,I 've designed them, a more complicated design with springs but I am using them every year since then and make new ones as I buy new planes :) I would put pictures here but I can't. I can do touch and goes all day long on a good texture snow without getting bored. Here is my Cessna video..a bit long but I've edited a lot from hours of filming in a couple of years. th-cam.com/video/bGyoiWCIg2g/w-d-xo.html. And you can see a short video of the CAP 232 53cc on skies and also the working safety 2,8m parachute on this plane that I've designed as well as other pictures like of the skies concept on my facebook page - Jackal Astro Pilot (old Szexy Picasso) not that I'm not sexy anymore..:) facebook.com/szexy.picaso Clear skies!
Awesome videos. Your videos have made me start researching into getting into DIY airplanes. Never flown anything before but some basic quad copters, but it looks like a rewarding and fun hobby. What camera did you mount on your plane?
+Andrew aBeizerfour Yes I find that designing and building your own airplane is the perfect balance of challenge and reward. And the more you do it the better it gets. The camera is a Mobius
+SaceedAbul Yes, in order to fly these after Feb 19. The pilot will have to do the quick little registration process online and put a number on/in the plane somewhere. You can put this same reg. number in all your planes.
+Samm Sheperd (SNRS) 1 last question. How do you actually control the plane. I get the how to make the shape and stuff. But what do you buy to move the ailerons ( A word I just learned today I just called it little rudders) and the rudder? Plus how to connect it to the remote to fly it......
+SaceedAbul to register: registermyuas.faa.gov/ Radio control/power systems are very popular and widely available, but it can be very confusing to just buy individual components if you are not familiar with them. This guy does a good job at explaining what the components are and how they work together: th-cam.com/video/7uOr0nMv0-8/w-d-xo.html
Those ski's work well! Snow is great stuff for rc. th-cam.com/video/0CBPO2scr3g/w-d-xo.html&pbjreload=101 I always take my twin motor water plane with me to our wintersport destination (puddle twin, design by Roland Merks, plans found on the internet). It does well on the snow and the weather is better compared to home most of the time (no wind) Next project will be a 3d printed home made snowmobile. Will be a nice addition to the vintage 1982-1986 kyosho blizzard (slow) that I also take
Hey i live in south lake tahoe i build and fly drones to thats really cool. The next time you come up here you should message me on youtube and i can show you some really cool places to fly
The "ssssss" as it slides on the snow is such a satisfying sound.
I snow right?!
Thats very PUNny!!!!!
Stefan & Quantum, those jokes are like the worst jokes I have heard in a log while. I fucking love it :)
😢😢 I am back rewatching all the classics
same
you are the best in RC
he is died by a road accident at 2018.so sad.
wohooo! This is winter RC at its best. Sooo many memories. Wish we had this small cheap cameras when i was young.
simple tweak for the propeller issue, put one rubber band over the hinge point of the wheel mounts, with a knot tied so the tips are held up without blocking the area.
majestic AF
omg... that would be borderline too much fun to make tracks all day!
That's a cool mechanism with the rubber bands!
Thanks! There is probably a much cleaner and more elegant way to do it, but this just the way I did it
Very impressive and very nice smooth snow
Thanks. I was in Tahoe for almost a week and only that one day (last Saturday) was good. The day before was just old icy snow and the rest was super windy and stormy.
You might not have the "Flite Test finesse" on your planes, but I love your resourcefulness. It seems you could get anything to fly!
+The Captain I think I'll do a video now on "How to make anything fly"
***** That'd be interesting.
Truly talented. That looks like a great place to fly too. Nice design
that is majestic af
I challenge you to make floats
Yes
Yeah!! Do a water landing please
Awesome idea! Very scenic day for filming! I'm considering mounting skis to mine for it's first glide test, given all the snow here in the UK.
Really nice to see, the gopro under the plane is a very good point of view !
it wasn't the gopro😑
rohan bhardwaj what was it so ?
+JSparo Mobius😐
Beautiful... and the lipo did enjoy it to xD
Next up, ice skate landing gear! Adding razor sharp knives always makes things more fun
Beautiful sceanery, Samm! And great idea for skis. Makes me want to digg innto the drawer and get out the skis for my Multiplex Magister :-)
Thanks for inspirational videos!!
So majestic!!
This is Awesome! I'd love to do some RC stuff but i don't have enough money ^^
Marius Meyer: honestly, you can make a pretty decent one out of foam for about $100
I actually did a couple years ago and currently I am planing to get back to rc soon! :)
Marius Meyer: good for you man, I just transitioned from rc cars to planes, and I love it
You should try those in shallow water in the summertime.
Great video. We just got a bunch of snow in the east so I want to get some skis on my planes. That lake looks like it is not completely frozen in one of the shots.

Nice, I've always wanted to try skis on something. This airplane wants to be a twin I think... sure lands softly anyway.
Dubro skis. But if you just like making stuff they are cool. You are lucky you are young and have the time to build your own stuff the older you get the less free time you will have... awesome vid.......
Can you make a plane that shoots fire out its arse ?
@Nicholas Schnee seemed like a good idea at the time
love your videos, congratz for your jobs, seems very fun
this ski plane not only works perfectly, it is the smoothest landing RC plane ever filmed.
I love this video. Looks like a lot of fun, watched several times.

wow that is SICK!!!
good job nice idea
When the propellers spin 2:25 it looks so weird
austin s cause the camera uses a `rolling shutter`.
austin s Here's a video that explains it really well!
th-cam.com/video/dNVtMmLlnoE/w-d-xo.html
Pure awesomeness
so awesome. love it
so smooth
woah cool video! what kind of camera are you using on the plane?
Mobius
Is it possible to exchange the shaft on the motor for a slightly longer one for a larger propeller?
don't you ever get bored flying planes? if not, how do you keep finding it fun?
I'm only fly my planes like 5 times and then get bored and make a new one
I don't know if you've tried but do you think the skis would work better on sand than wheels?
No it wouldn't slide well. Too much resistance. Big squishy are best
what cameras are you using ?
Put a spring on the back of the front ski, then remove the rubber band
he died dude
What is the highiest you can get with your planes?
Lukaaz You'll loose sight of it before it looses signal.
Holy shit at 2:12 the shutters sync up with the propellers
that always happens when a prop is on a camera
next one has to be a hydroplane :))

awesome!
