I haven't played many fighting games, mostly just Smash. However. Custom Robo for the GameCube kicked all of the ass, forever. It's a 3D fighter where you fight with little robots in a virtual space. The "custom" part comes in where you get to swap parts of your robo out for different loadouts, and you unlock those parts through the story mode which is actually really good (read: it's anime as hell). Highly recommended by me, the guy that played Custom Robo a lot.
There's this one game that i used to play back in days with the bois called "Bloody Roar 2"(there are 5 iterations of the game, each with unique story mode but we mostly play the second one). It's some what of a 3D fighting game mix with 2D fighting style like Tekken and your super is literally turning to the animal that the character possesses to do special move, the boss is pretty hard to beat and the characters are quite memorable, you should really check the game out sometime.
I feel obligated to mention a childhood favorite of mine - Bakugan: Defenders of the Core. It was a little on the simple side in terms of fighting mechanics, but (as long as my memory isn’t _too_ nostalgia-tainted) it was a pretty decent Wii game. It was also a Bakugan video game where you fought as building-crushing titans to save an alternate reality from the bad guys trying to steal the power of the planet’s core (though the writing is a little lazy and it isn’t quite as cool as that sounds). Basically, imagine Pokken Tournament but scale the fighters up to ten stories tall, and you’ve got a pretty good idea.
Not a fighting game but a near and dear 3D game I felt like not many people heard about was a game called Kameo. You’re an elf princess that can become elementals with different powers (kind of like an early Ben10). The designs of almost all the elementals were amazing and so much fun to play as. The game was scheduled for a sequel but unfortunately the dev company shut down before making it. I’d love for you to check it out skooch, even if you don’t make a video of it, it’s a charming game that I’ve replayed many times and feel like you’d enjoy as well.
Kameo, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, and Viva Pinata are rather unsung Rareware titles that sadly didn't get the time to grow. Granted, part of the struggle is that they were clearly made with a Nintendo audience in mind when XBox was still competing for the family market instead of an almost exclusively FPS engine. If Kameo had been on the Gamecube, I imagine it would at least have been a moderate cult classic akin to Billy Hatcher instead of being deemed a stain on Rareware's reputation.
Bruh most of these traditional fighters populations combined couldn’t equal 5 digits before tekken 8 came out on steam. The most popular fighting game according to real steam chart evidence even after tekkens release is a 3d, battle royale fighting game called naraka bladepoint, and its not even close. Now if for honor 2 came out with dedicated servers, it’d be up there too.
We had a Battle Arena Cabinet at my daycare, I have never forgotten watching some older kids try to beat Gaia with Sofia or getting knocked off of Eiji's stage.
Both Power Stone 1 and 2 have a dodge system, from what I remember you have to flick the left stick/press the dpad either towards or to the side as an attack is about to land, somewhat like parries in Street Fighter. You can also catch thrown items (even bombs) with a well timed press of grab. In Power Stone 1 in particular, my friends and i got so good at catching and dodging thrown items, the mindgames around them got pretty nuts. And as for the dodge system, if you get a dodge then your opponent has to perfect dodge your next hit (if they attack straight away) or its going through. The timing of an attack after a dodge, in itself became another mindgame. tl;dr Power Stone has defensive mechanics, just not easy ones, and they're very rewarding to land
The 2 3D fighting games from my childhood that come to mind that I had a blast with are Ehrgeiz and Destrega. Ehrgeiz had an awesome fighting system, and the maps sometimes actually mattered if they had a small bit of elevation you could use to your advantage. The splash of FF characters was pretty cool, while the characters made for the game had character of their own. It was just an amazing game all around. Destrega on the other hand had all sorts of fun ranged energy powers for each character that were just insane when combined with the fighting. Blast someone from across the arena with a laser, or hit someone with a prismatic blast of light while they're running towards you. Or kill someone with literal charged up versions of your regular energy attacks that could be combined in different orders to modify their characteristics. My brother and I had a blast with this one and played matches that would last quite a long time with the dodging and blocking system they had in the game. Hell you could even deflect the energy attacks if you got good enough with the battle system.
Oh that thumbnail hurt. I miss both of those series so much. Power Stone was just so dope and Def Jam was so fun for how goofy and over the top it was.
Hi-rez, the guys that made Smite made a Smash-like 3D fighter for their game called Divine Knockout. It genuinely has so much potential to be good, and they for some reason just stopped working on it.
If not for it being Hi rez, the generic mobile art style and type of dialouge style of the characters n such, Id be for it. It's a thing noone explored or go to. I tbh want more of that please.
I do love when people like Scooch talk about my favorite genre of games. I know they arent small but it is good to see someone with a good size following talk about fighting games with such love that isnt Max or Moist every once in a while.
Only fighting game I've ever loved is KoF Maximum Impact. It's also a 3D fighter in the sense that you press R1 and the character takes a arc of a skootch to change the angle on the background, and maybe dodge an attack while giving back a cheeky punch.
One of my favourite games of all times is the 3d brawler final fantasy dissidia for the psp. It was just amazing how you could personalice each legend from the FF universe. What an amazing 3d brawler
I watched this already but also just watched the VR Minecraft video when you opened up for a bit and I get that stress you felt, loved you for years man, never the game you played. Keep your head up and realize you are scooch not league or anything else. Love you man keep it up♥️
YOOOOO I REMEMBER URBAN REIGN, IT WAS SO GOOD. I remember spending hours and hours just playing the demo and then I finally found a copy out in the wild. Glad to see it's not forgotten
very nice video as always from best narrator skooch :3 Tbh for 3d fighting games I LOVED final fantasy dissidia. The fights were a bit different from what we usualy find. You had to do attacks that steal the enemy's ether (wich is the dmg they will deal with their next attack) then attack with one of your attacks that use your ether to actualy deal dmg. you can do combo's with follow up attacks that can be countered if you dodge at the right timing etc tec. They made great maps but most of them are kinda the same with the only danger from the map is the edge or falling in the endless abyss of despair. but it was still very fun. It was a special gameplay and maybe it wasnt as good as I think it was, but nostagia made me love it so much I also played five years ago a game on steam named Kurtzpel Had great coop PVE, great mekaniks with your character using two weapons and doing many combos by using many skills/attacks/weapon switch etc Unfortunatly it got bad It's now a very pay2win oriented game and most of the good contents are gone Anyway, love from France
I really like how they handled 3D space in Dissidia while also having very simple controls. It feels intuitive, falls in line with the canonical power level of its characters, but also had surprising depth (I remember in Duodecim learning tight timings on dodge cancel combos w/ assists).
Skooch!!! You named all my favorites!! The only one I think you’re kinda sorta “technically” missing it’s not really a 3-D, but it is also 3-D fighter is (Project justice!! & slap happy rhythm busters )
I would love to see another power stone game. I also really want the bloody roar games to come back. I loved those games, played them through out my childhood.
you need to do a part 2. the rabbit hole goes deep for these games, such as Castlevania Judgement and Kamen Rider: Climax Fighters. those games go so hard if you've never seen them. they are so funny.
Castlevania Judgment. Admittedly, perhaps a bit too tongue in cheek for the franchise and a metroidvania is a weird one to base a fighting game on, but it was at least fun for the short term. Bit more hammering out the details for a sequel/2nd attempt, and it could at least been on the level of Skullgirls for a positive reputation, I'm sure.
Speaking of oldschool fighting. I really loved OMF2097. First you pick your "pilot" and then you pick your "mech" :D . Hellyeah. Also, rise of robots comes to mind because it looked amazing back in the day.
Ok so alot to say here since i play quite a lot of fighting games , you are partially correct yes 3D fighting games are not being made like they ones you talked about but we got a new type of them. The open arena type i guess think of games like For Honor (yes its a fighting game) also Naraka Bladepoint,Sifu,Absolver,We Who Are About To Die etc. What im trying to say is that that type of game never went away it just evolved most of the games i mentioned are doing very well. All these game have combos and juggle mechanics and a big play area that you can freely walk and fight on i strongly recomend you to go try them.
Bro, Skooch baby. War. Of. The. Monsters. 🦍🤖🐜🐉👁🗿🛸 Please do a vid on that classic. Such fond memories of that game as a kid. I still think it holds up as a 3D arena fighter.
I beat this game an ungodly amount of times and I still absolutely despise the level with all the eyeball dudes that rush you. Besides that the ragdoll physics will never not be funny.
One series I love to this day was River City Ransom, ignoring the River City Girls games. The last one produced was on Steam called River City Underground, a wonderful gem of a game that had everything going for it...till a musician who did the music for the game lost their minds and threatened to sue the indie team. Shine on you, beautiful diamond!
Back when I had the OG Xbox, my brother and I were introduced to a 3d fighter called Barbarian, which while simple in world and story, ended up being fun enough in gameplay, if not fairly barebones. Most stages have areas of the environment that can be destroyed and lead to a second, and often third iteration of the stage in the same match. It also has a PS2 version, which I wasn't aware of until only a few years ago (side note: Much the same as the old dragonball games have games on the loading screens, try using both your thumbsticks on the loading screens for a fun little surprise)
even if you only showed it for like 2 seconds, jump force was such a cool concept that i genuinely wish got another chance, it was so hype to be able to play with my favourite anime characters and the gameplay was very fun imo, if only it had a bit more polish and publicity maybe it woulsve had the ability to get popular, but as ir stands i was extremely sad to see it get cancelled, i really hope some other company gives this concept a shot
Sick video dog but I would disagree on your first joke (yes I’m a prick) and say fighting games generally are indeed an advanced ROCK PAPER SCISSORS. Scissors (attacks) lose to rock (blocking/shield) but rock loses to paper (grabs) but then paper loses to scissors. I absolutely love this concept in fighting games
I kinda want to see your opinions on the game Your Only Move Is Hustle, if you have the time for a turn based fighting game based around frame advantage and directional input.
Rip jump force. The actual gameplay was butter smooth and fun af but bad balancing (100-0 combos) and literally the worst story mode ever destroyed the game. I really miss playing it. It was so fun and fast to play. U had so many combos to do with the off hand character abilities and the fact that u had 3 chars in ur team.
Oh neat, a Zone 4 mention. Though, I'm a bit disappointed Fighters Club Online from KoG Games didn't get a shoutout, but that's understandable since that game never got a chance to come to the west. Not only that, but it didn't really get much promotion even when it was supposed to be launched over here. But to talk more about Fighters Club it also has mechanics and systems similar to Urban Reign much like Zone 4, however, Fighters Club leans heavier into an action anime kind of feel. You'd have a choice of 5 characters (Spike, Jack, Remy, Carmen and Zin) with two classes each. As you progress through the game you'd level up gaining more skills for that class in which those skills would assist in creating longer flashier combos. Much like Zone 4 it also has the body damage system from Urban Reign, but unlike those two which have a single attack button and a dodge button, Fighters Club has two attack buttons (Light and Heavy) and a block button (Can block high and low). On that topic, I don't have much more to say other than there's some videos up from when the game was still running in Korea, the game unfortunately came to a close and never made it to western territories. But its nice that you mentioned Zone 4, it unlocked some nostalgia for me, I used to play it back when it was hosted on OGPlanet. But most of my time was spent on another 3D fighter that was also hosted on OGPlanet back then titled Rumble Fighter (Side note: Rumble Fighter is still alive at the time of typing this it's just hosted by RedFox Games now). Though I had conflicting thoughts about both, Rumble Fighter had more 3D movement available to it allowing you to run, jump and double jump all over the stage, but the fights themselves felt kind of lacking. Still had fun with both games though.
I read '3D Fighting Games' and thought immediately of Urban Reign. Me and my friends used to play Smackdown Here Comes The Pain a lot when I was young and then we discovered this hidden gem of a game and never looked back. This game is insanely good! We still get together sometimes and play this even though my PS2 is long dead (long live emulation). It is a true timeless classic and the amount of fun and gut-busting laughter we've had from this game over the course of nearly 2 decades is immeasurable. If you want to extract the max amount of fun out of this game, you need to just get similarly skilled friends together (4 in all at max) and just play multiplayer. Me and my friends have spent entire days doing just that and it never gets old! I hope from the bottom of my heart that this game gets a remake or something because there has never been anything even remotely as good ever since. PS. I know every single character's name, favorite weapon and moveset by heart. My favorite is Shinkai with his Katana who can kill anyone in like 2 moves (1 if he's powered up). Closely following him are: Golem with his axe, Shun Ying with her Chinese Sword and her brother Lin Fong with his Saber.

I can't be the only who likes watching Skooch's videos for Skooch himself right?
Kikaioh, Rival Schools, Mace: The Dark Age, Battle Arena Toshinden all come to mind in terms of 3d fighting games that deserve a sequel
Battle Arena deserves at least a remastered version of some sort. rival schools was great for the stories alone.
Namco making a Soulcalibur crossover with Samurai Shodown/Last Blade characters in it would be so f*cking great
Haohmaru is in Soul Calibur 6
It genuinely has so much potential to be good, and they for some reason just stopped working on it.
average Hi-Rez moment(they can't work in one thing besides smite)
They also had this amazing Tribes reboot that they dropped out of the blue.
If not for it being Hi rez, the generic mobile art style and type of dialouge style of the characters n such, Id be for it.
It's a thing noone explored or go to.
I tbh want more of that please.
@@ph1lny3 if you mean ascend, yes 😭 now tribes 3 has all the oldheads playing again but the skill floor is astronomical
Soul Caliber. Dead or alive. Two 3d fighting game classics
I do love when people like Scooch talk about my favorite genre of games. I know they arent small but it is good to see someone with a good size following talk about fighting games with such love that isnt Max or Moist every once in a while.
Skooch casually going auburn and not mentioning it made me double take
The Canadian come out very strong around 20:10 😂😂😂 "Nouoo whey!"
Dont know if it really counts but Tekkens sister franchise, SoulCalibur get overlooked a lot. Its one of my favorites!
The Soulcalibers need a remake. Not necessarily a sequel, the storyline already ended, but remastered versions would be nice.
It already did
@@Gweezy12 I’m not talking about Soulcaliber 6. I mean remakes of the original 5 games. (Especially 4, that was the best one in my opinion.)
Power stone could definitely pull off being a meme tournament or the chaos it would ensue if your favorite TH-camrs came together.
If you've never played the Pipeworks Godzilla games, I'd love to see you try them
now I wait 19 years for a skooch melty blood video
Only fighting game I've ever loved is KoF Maximum Impact. It's also a 3D fighter in the sense that you press R1 and the character takes a arc of a skootch to change the angle on the background, and maybe dodge an attack while giving back a cheeky punch.
One of my favourite games of all times is the 3d brawler final fantasy dissidia for the psp. It was just amazing how you could personalice each legend from the FF universe. What an amazing 3d brawler
I love that Skooch went super saiyan mid way through the video! Massive drip dawg 🙏🏻
I watched this already but also just watched the VR Minecraft video when you opened up for a bit and I get that stress you felt, loved you for years man, never the game you played. Keep your head up and realize you are scooch not league or anything else. Love you man keep it up♥️
The Gundam Extreme Vs. Have been amazing 3D brawlers.
Skooch has become one of those channels that makes me drop everything when a new video pops up. Quality all around.
Def Jam Fight for NY is one of the best fighters of the 2000s. I honestly wish we'd get a remaster or something
Bloody Roar and Virtua fighter were 2 pretty good 3d fighting games.
Mace the dark age on N64 as well!
PowerStone is in the thumbnail when it's a arena fighter... Okay
I really enjoyed playing battle for NYC on my ps2 back in the day
I used to love Soul Calibur. 6 broke my heart with how bad it felt to play. The older games might be a fun experiment though.
I played so much Powerstone and Def Jam. I think The Warriors by Rockstar also had incredible brawling action, but is mostly forgotten.
DOA 1-6 izuna dropping people off 200 ft building was crazy
YOOOOO I REMEMBER URBAN REIGN, IT WAS SO GOOD. I remember spending hours and hours just playing the demo and then I finally found a copy out in the wild. Glad to see it's not forgotten
-cries in God Hand-😢
very nice video as always from best narrator skooch :3
Tbh for 3d fighting games I LOVED final fantasy dissidia.
It was a special gameplay and maybe it wasnt as good as I think it was, but nostagia made me love it so much
I also played five years ago a game on steam named Kurtzpel
Had great coop PVE, great mekaniks with your character using two weapons and doing many combos by using many skills/attacks/weapon switch etc
Unfortunatly it got bad
It's now a very pay2win oriented game and most of the good contents are gone
Anyway, love from France
I really like how they handled 3D space in Dissidia while also having very simple controls. It feels intuitive, falls in line with the canonical power level of its characters, but also had surprising depth (I remember in Duodecim learning tight timings on dodge cancel combos w/ assists).
Skooch!!! You named all my favorites!! The only one I think you’re kinda sorta “technically” missing it’s not really a 3-D, but it is also 3-D fighter is (Project justice!! & slap happy rhythm busters )
I would love to see another power stone game. I also really want the bloody roar games to come back. I loved those games, played them through out my childhood.
i used to play Soul Caliber 3-5 so much. SC4 was the first collector edition i ever bought. its sad to see it squandered so hard.
urban reign is underrated as hell, glad to see such a hidden gem get a mention
I'ma be real, I know your character in DefJam was probably based on you but honestly looks like Eminem
you need to do a part 2. the rabbit hole goes deep for these games, such as Castlevania Judgement and Kamen Rider: Climax Fighters. those games go so hard if you've never seen them. they are so funny.
Castlevania Judgment.
Admittedly, perhaps a bit too tongue in cheek for the franchise and a metroidvania is a weird one to base a fighting game on, but it was at least fun for the short term.
Bit more hammering out the details for a sequel/2nd attempt, and it could at least been on the level of Skullgirls for a positive reputation, I'm sure.
>new channel is linked in the top of the description
>mfw still looking for new channel link
it was at the end of the video B]
Speaking of oldschool fighting. I really loved OMF2097. First you pick your "pilot" and then you pick your "mech" :D . Hellyeah.
Also, rise of robots comes to mind because it looked amazing back in the day.
Sudden hair change had me replaying the video to make sure I wasn’t tripping
6:18 Power Stone Enthusiast here. There is a dodge. Have to move in any direction as soon as an attack is about to hit you. It’s like perfect parry.
You really on the grind for real, from 2 live streams to a whole new video, its crazy insane that you don't have more subs, keep it up bud! ❤❤❤
Bro, Skooch baby.
War. Of. The. Monsters. 🦍🤖🐜🐉👁🗿🛸
Please do a vid on that classic. Such fond memories of that game as a kid. I still think it holds up as a 3D arena fighter.
I beat this game an ungodly amount of times and I still absolutely despise the level with all the eyeball dudes that rush you. Besides that the ragdoll physics will never not be funny.
powerstone 2 was *Amazing!*
So many 3D Fighters are "Dead"... Only Tekken remains 😒
I forgot how brutal the Def Jam supers were.
We need another Def Jam game.
A real Def Jam game, not that Icon shit.
@@TheDapperDragon I forgot Icon existed, which is Enough said on that subject.
@@TheDapperDragonmy god that game Icon was a waste of time. And that was a rental lol
There are so many potential 3d fighters to cover. Pls do another video on this subject. Love your videos
Over my dead body do I recognize leffen and his happy chaos as champ
Def Jam was my childhood. The psp one, but still, thanks for reminding me of that masterpiece
Check out Flying Dragon for the 64. It was one of my childhoods and is underrated
It also has a PS2 version, which I wasn't aware of until only a few years ago
(side note: Much the same as the old dragonball games have games on the loading screens, try using both your thumbsticks on the loading screens for a fun little surprise)
Well, Urban Reign is just Tekken as a beat em up. Much of the mechanics were present on the Tekken 6 beat em up mode, and the Nina spin off.
even if you only showed it for like 2 seconds, jump force was such a cool concept that i genuinely wish got another chance, it was so hype to be able to play with my favourite anime characters and the gameplay was very fun imo, if only it had a bit more polish and publicity maybe it woulsve had the ability to get popular, but as ir stands i was extremely sad to see it get cancelled, i really hope some other company gives this concept a shot
Sonic The Fighters is a good 3d fighting game that was forgotten but now is forming new fandom around it, and it is pretty cool
but this game actually not very fun when playing alone because of bad enemy ai
How skooch feels about rumbleverse is how I feel about Gigantic
ahh yes, gigantic. the game that was ahead of its time
Gigantic is actually coming back btw!!
@@almightygod87 I'm aware of it, I'm part of r/gigantic too XD, let's keep our hopes up!
Honestly was expecting Bloody Roar to be here. My brother and I played the heck outta 4 on PS2.
I came here for Power Stone!
Yes I agree. This game turns 25 this year!
A remake is supposedly going to happen this year.
I'm instantly sold if does.
Power Stone 1 does have a Dodge mechanic. If you move the stick as your being attacked you do a sick dodge that you can spam.
skooch is truly the maddest of lads
I kinda want to see your opinions on the game Your Only Move Is Hustle, if you have the time for a turn based fighting game based around frame advantage and directional input.
Rip jump force. The actual gameplay was butter smooth and fun af but bad balancing (100-0 combos) and literally the worst story mode ever destroyed the game. I really miss playing it. It was so fun and fast to play. U had so many combos to do with the off hand character abilities and the fact that u had 3 chars in ur team.
Bloody Roar, & Bushido Blade were also so good
Castlevania Judgement was highly underrated. Graphics were trash but the ost was fire!
The hair transition was slick
I dont know if this counts, but there was a Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy that nobody talks about. It was so much fun
If Pokkén Tournament isn't on here I'll cry
Closely following him are: Golem with his axe, Shun Ying with her Chinese Sword and her brother Lin Fong with his Saber.
my brothers and i went crazy over Shrek Superslam. We played it day in and day out
My neck hurts just watching that one def jam special
Shout out to the OGs who played Tom & Jerry War of the Whiskers
