Just found this song because of pear, The lyrics "so what's coming next that's a total surprise, Join into the game now: look straight in my FACE!" to me is the most beautiful line ive seen, not only because it breaks the rhyme, but you also expect her to say eyes, and the interanion of FACE judds out so much compared to the flow, and aaa I love it
"The first time we met on the side of the road" Koishi's name pretty much means "little pebble on the side of the road" because she's quite forgettable. Clever.
Eeeh, kinda. "Koishi" means "little rock" or "pebble," nothing about any roads in her name... However, in Symposium of Post-mysticism, Akyuu compares her to a pebble on the side of the road because even if you do see her, it's almost impossible to actually _notice_ her, let alone remember her.
That's one of the two meanings, the other one has something to do with love; that's the reason it's "Closed Eyes of Love". And that's the one used in Chinese, instead of the "pebble" one.
"For a face to be forgotten is the fate of every face" -Koishi, casually reaching through the screen and turning my "existential dread" dial all the way up
2:07 I love the way they say “You remember mine?” It’s like for a split second we’re hearing the actual conversation being heard instead of just a song. Actually really creepy lol gives me chills
0:58 "So what's coming next? That's a total surprise!" "Join in the game now: look straight in my FACE!" The fact that the lyrics bait you into expecting "straight in my eyes" is genius - a total surprise, if you will.
@@jakcesleepingrn5739 But it would've rhymed with "eyes." Lyrics generally like to set up the expectations by making them rhyme. Although I didn't thought of eyes, I was genuinely caught off guard by the word "face" because it didn't rhyme, which is genius.
Another fun fact: Satori and Koishi are likely inspired by the painting "The Two Fridas," by Frida Kahlo. According to Frida Kahlo herself, the image originated from her memory of an imaginary childhood friend. Later she also admitted that the painting expressed her desperation and loneliness with the separation from her husband, Diego Rivera.
2:01 This feels so great to me. I can practically see the terror on the kid turned adult’s face, with Koishi acting happy and merry. I also love the fact this is a repeat of the first lines.. but something’s changed.
Watching this again now, the lines "Sooner or later was anyone's guess" and "You look in my eyes, yet you're looking too far" leads me to believe since they grew up, they stopped noticing her and only had a vague feeling that "something" is there, which might explain the fear.
I feel like the concept of Koishi is something that children would see as an imaginary friend (which is actually kinda cannon? She's the invisible friend to many young human children because their consciousness hasn't fully developed) and then as you grow older and become an adult she represents something that's inevitable and terrifying, and that is that we're all going to be forgotten eventually, just like Koishi. But Koishi can't necessarily be forgotten because of Satori and the immortals that know she exists.
Really like how there is something resembling a story here, or even character development. It starts with the silly and childish greetings, with some degree of something off hidden. A bit later, and we see Koishi's facade breaking slightly: "No I mean, stay..." When we get to 1:15, it feels like a climax. Koishi completely drops her childish attitude and reveals herself fully to her "friend", like in an outburst of emotion. And then the climax, when both of them ended up forgetting eachother. Bravo.
1 where am I 2 is this an anime or sum game I can play/watch 3 can someone give me some lore about this girl or just say something that'll make me understand this more
I feel like these lyrics really drive home the point I never heard from anyone until now: Koishi's power could very well be a curse, leaving her forever unable to maintain a true relationship with someone, because they'll always forget her the moment they look away. _However..._ People seem to be forgetting that Koishi literally doesn't have a conscious mind. Her actions are controlled entirely by "the unconscious", which is also why Satori can't read her mind: She doesn't have a mind for her to read. Yeah, Koishi can talk and fight like any normal Yokai would, but she can't really *think* or *feel* like one. I don't think she even knows what her power does, because knowledge requires consciousness - Even when she explains this to other people, she does it unconsciously. Is the desire to have a lasting relationship not also something that requires the aspect of the mind that Koishi lacks?
Humans are the only known race to have an « ego » that allows theme for reflexion and thoughts, but even babies, which debatably don’t have a consciousness higher than natural instinct, will cry for people to come to them, not necessarily because they need help, but because no being cannot be social.
yeah but... arent feelings something unconscious? wouldnt she still have some feelings (like loneliness), even if she cant consciously recognize them? altho maybe not, but then it becomes a weird kind of existential horror, the idea of someone just being... entirely unable to comprehend whats happening or have feelings, even though they're still technically "living"
@@Ponera-Sama actually all baby's are narcissists until they reach the ripe ol age of 3. Here are the reasons. Baby's don't exactly know what you are thinking they don't have perspective they can't think of your perspective. You do this unconsciously. Baby's don't. They only care for themselves.
i find koishi as a really sad character. shes unable to feel, or to be loved nor hated all because of the hate that went towards the satori species... im breaking the rules, _i love koishi so much..._
@@jamzee_ she's "invisible" when you don't see her; it's impossible to detect her presence but she is literally visible otherwise it is also entirely impossible to remember her existence after looking away from her, the only part i'm unsure on is if you are able to remember encounters with her if you personally know satori also lol necro-posting
@@jamzee_ it's more that people just aren't able to notice her (and even if they do they can't remember her). It's not a Satori ability (people can see and remember her older sister just fine) it's a result of her closing her third eye, she can't do anything conciously and other people can't conciously notice her. The only people who can properly see and remember her are her sister and people that her sister has told about her.
Usually I like to pick out a line of lyrics to analyse in a song, but this cover of Hartmann's Youkai Girl is so dense with symbolism or narrative that it's really hard to do. No wonder that this is Lyrica Live's top cover in views as of writing. I have managed to pick out a line that really resonates with me though: 1:55 "And believing you believe in me is making me believe that maybe I'm a thing that doesn't have to fade away". I can't stop thinking about this line. Initially, it sounds like it's just a clever play on words, repeating the word "believe" in different contexts. The more I think about it, though, the more this line really captures the conflicted mood of Koishi in this moment. For most of the song and story, Koishi is blissfully playful, to the point that it's eerie, and her lyrics are filled with double entendres that are uncomfortable to think about for us who know about her background, but easy to miss for whichever new friend she happened to meet at the time. But during the down part, where she seems to let out her vulnerable side, we hear of Koishi's insecurities (Ironic, considering that her insecurities stem from her literally closing herself off from the world). No matter how enjoyable her times with whomever she's with will be, she is someone that will be forgotten, and someone who forgets. A two-way amnesia, that makes it as though the encounter never happened. It's a hopeless situation, and Koishi knows as well as we do that there is no point in thinking that anything will change this fate. But then she begins to feel hope. And this is when this line strikes home. "Believing you believe in me" - this means that she has no proof that the other person believes in her. She just somehow convinced herself that it's so. *That's* how fragile the hope is, so much that she isn't even able to tell if the other person genuinely feels the same connection that she does. "is making me believe" - and this results in her starting to think that maybe this time is special. Even though we all know that people forget Koishi as soon as she's out of sight, the hope begins to build. Childish optimism begins to take hold, and we begin to think: Maybe, just maybe this time is different. "maybe I'm a thing that doesn't have to fade away" - she sings, even as she begins to fade away. Again, ultimate irony. At the moment when the song is at it's most heartfelt, and has finally built up a modicum of optimism, it's already stomping out that hope even as Koishi continues down that line of wishful thinking. And then we loop back to the regular playful melody, and we hear how whomever she was playing with doesn't recognise her, and soon she forgets them too. Which creates the question: How many times does Koishi go through this cycle? Make a friend, feel sad that they'll forget each other, believe that they won't forget, then forget anyway. Each time, she will be brought the false hope that this time is different, and she only believes this because she doesn't remember all the other times she thought the same thing. If it was hopeless all throughout, perhaps it wouldn't be as bad. But there is hope, and genuine faith that the power of friendship will prevail. Yet it doesn't. It never does. And we know it never will.
What a wonderful analysis!! Thank you so much for thinking so closely about it. This is very much a lot of what I intended to invoke, and phrased so eloquently! Hearing it read back so explicitly, actually, makes me so sad that I'm inclined to acknowledge that this song is overdramatizing things a bit... by juxtaposing the situation of her current consciousless self with "the thoughts that she would have if she were still able to think." Which is inherently a contradiction, isn't it? In reality, she may not even be able to process "the worry that she will forget again," so it wouldn't result in any meaningful false hope. You can say she literally only experiences the positive feelings of hope before returning to the alternate positive feelings of a new friendship. Koishi is quite a happy character in canon Touhou, who truly does just enjoy the moment while she lasts. The situation is theoretically sad, when considering the things she theoretically gave up, but I don't think it actively causes her to suffer. On the other hand, there IS one canon line that says "for the first time, she regretted closing her third eye" -- so perhaps it is possible to say she can experience anxiety about it. I don't know. I really specifically like the two-sided interpretability of Koishi's character. You could portray her as purely carefree, or you could focus on the lingering effects of the tragic side. More to the point, maybe the more positive tone in canon Touhou comes from the fact that there are, in fact, ways for people to remember her. By associating her with other things, rather than just "her existence," which is too unstable in and of itself. Like her involvement in the incident of Hopeless Masquerade, I believe, solidified her presence a bit.
@@lyrica-live This is what I love about Touhou. You're free to interpret it however you want, like a fairy tale or a mythological story. The narrative and characters suit your purposes, not the other way around, and it's brilliant.
I love the way you write lyrics--you clearly put so much thought and effort into the multiple meanings of every word and how the characters really feel, not only in just your writing but your performances as well. It's always a treat to see videos from you in my subscription box. :)
0:20 They always ask "Who are you? Who am I? What are you? What am I? Look at me. Are you blind? Look at me, never mind. Are you there? Stay away. There you are. Stay away. Here I am. Stay away. Come with me. Take it away..." but not **How** are you? Memes aside, I love this one a whole bunch! This is one of those you want to listen again and again until you get sick of it, but you just can't get enough, just like your Emotional Skyscraper or Futatsuiwa from Sado. Great job!
The part where she says "I remember your face, You remember mine?" Think about it, many fan arts, only one original with a *blurred* original of her, one cannot simply tell how she really looks
2:29 That "Pleasure to see you..." Followed by "Whoever you are..." Are some seriously underrated lines. I don't know why but those two lines actually scare me a little.
Can I just talk about how good some of these lyrics are? The line "For a face to be forgotten is the fate of every face, then every pretty smile withers over like a rose," is absolutely brilliant. I've never heard fan lyrics for a song so good in my entire life.
I'm just now realizing the three different filters on the video represent the id (normal), superego (inverted), and ego (gray) respectively, very creative
I think the filters are more to convey the warring of her conscious/unconscious and the pain of forgetting. Her normal happy optimism (normal) The anxiety and doubt of her conscious mind which has been suppressed by closing her third eye (inverted) And the gray conveying her fading away as she is forgotten/forgets. The ego/superego/id idea is interesting tho, I'm sure Freud would be a Koishi fan if he were alive rn
Ahhhhhhhh!! I love this so much! The part that starts at 1:15 especially was my favorite section of the original song, and likewise I adore your part for that segment. The somber, almost reflective tone Koishi takes in a sudden moment of clarity, perfectly befitting that sad-sounding melody. Also, yay I technically helped with this one! :D
I'll tell you enough to give context for the song: Koishi Komeiji is a Satori like her sister... Satori Komeiji. Satori are a species of youkai that can read minds and because of this they are hated. Not only does it make a proper conversation borderline impossible, nobody likes to have their secrets exposed. They lived away from everyone, only accompanied by their many pets (who enjoy having their minds read) until Koishi had had enough and closed her Satori eye which had the side effect of closing her conscious mind. She now acts entirely on her subconscious whims, living a borderline emotionless haze of a life. Due to her lack of a conscious mind she's completely unnoticeable unless she allows it and even then, she's forgotten the moment you take your eyes off her. She got her wish of not being hated, but now can't be loved either. Only children retain some memory of her, to whom she exists as a sort of imaginary friend but even they forget her when they grow up.
The above [erson's explanation inherently relies on an understanding of fictional concepts, I would like to provide some of the same explanation with the use of psychology! Koishi is partially based off of Sigmund Freud and Heinz Hartmann's psychological philosophies. If we look at Koishi closing her 3rd eye through the lens of Freud, we can understand it as Koishi shutting off her conscious and subconscious minds, leaving only her unconscious mind In Japanese, Koishi's name can be written as 小石, which literally translates to "pebble." A character within Touhou named Akyuu muses that Koishi is like a pebble in the gravel of a road. It's unlikely for you to recognize its individual existence, let alone remember any specific pebble
From reading from the wiki, i think she appears as a "imaginary friend" to a child. When the child grows up they start to forget about koishi. In this song i think koishi tried to stop that from happening (a thought from the lyrics "LOOK STRAIGHT IN MY FACE!")
@@tomatoheadfdto sum it up the girl gets forgotten once adults look away but while they are kids they are her friends. It goes deeper but honestly the lyrics tell a lot more than I had realized on the surface.
This is so fantastic. The panning of your voice, the multiple references to her surroundings (like orin and okuu) the fact she can no longer read hearts. References to her attacks within roses, as well as that phone ringing. your tempo is great for it and the only thing that threw me off was the pitch of your voice. It was a beautiful and jarring experience and I love it. Probably one of my favorites you've done so far. Beyond that your editing skills are getting even better for these things its so fun and flavorful now
Despite it being my favourite by far I still haven't commented on this one unlike so many of the others. It took me a while to warm up to it like it does with a lot of these covers since having vocals on them is a big change. But I just love how you capture the tragic side of Koishi like so little else does. (Damn that Koishi Komeiji's Heart Throbbing Adventure!!!) All in all, of all the amazing tunes that you make me randomly sing to myself (especially when listening to the normal versions of them) Hartmann's Youkai Girl is #1 to the point that you're probably one of the main reasons Koishi's one of my favourites 2hus.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment so kindly! ^^ (Ahh, KKHTA... scary memories...) I'm really happy to be able to help you appreciate characters more~ That's a big goal, and it means a lot! I hope you continue to love Koishi and love Touhou! ♥
"As cute as a kitten" and "as smart as a crow," you say? Well there's one kitten who's far more feared than she's adored... and though crows are generally intelligent, I know of a certain birdbrain who's definitely Koishi's intellectual equal. xD Also, was that "believing in you, believing in me" part another TTGL reference? Last time you included one of those was in Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom... D'you have a TTGL theme running in the Komeiji household, Lyrica? A lot of people talk about how they just want to hug and comfort poor Flandre... but, honestly, between a girl who was locked in the basement because she was just way too dangerous, and two sisters who exiled themselves to hell, only to find that they were not wanted there, either, and so they confined themselves, one in a palace and one within her own heart and mind, just so they could escape the hatred... yeah, I think it's clear who the real ultimate woobies of Touhou are... poor Satori has even lost her dear little sister, and poor Koishi can only form imaginary relationships... Our hats are our friends. They help us relax.💔
It is nice to Koishi being able to remember and be noticed more thanks to having kept Kokoro mask of hope though it will fade giving time but at least she can even without it be remember as Satori sister. Though apparently she has some pets(and now a day is able to remember at least she scared someone with miss marry and that a human from the outside world dropped a smartphone since she told Satori about it) which is why she went to the shrine where she fought them either Marisa or Reimu(Because she had heard someone had beaten her sister and her pets and one of Satori pets had been granted power so she went so she could grant her pets power but she ended up regretting a bit that she closed her third eye)

I’ve always seen her as more sad than creepy, but you take the creepy angle and run with it! Especially the cute voice in contrast to the dark music! And there’s even some sadness in the bridge there!
Interestingly, the person who used to be my imaginary friend ended up being exactly like Koishi. A girl without a mind, consciousness, thoughts, nothing. No one can see her or remember her. And she ended up like this before I even knew about the existence of Koishi.
Kids: They always have an imaginary friend but forget about it later Depressed people: They also have imaginary friends cause they're too lonely Me, who have a whole imaginary world in my head for fun and still can't forget it: *"Sometimes My Genius…It's Almost Frightening"* Edit: It evoloped into a universe💀🤣🤣
I also have a whole imaginary world in my mind, with the main character closing her mind off just like Koishi. Sometimes my own creations scare me the most, even more than the real world.
I can't stop hearing this when listening to the original theme. I constantly feel how heart-touching this song actually is, especially since I've been feeling all these things recently.
This has to be my favorite one. Great fricking job. You managed to capture everything that makes Koishi so special and beloved. Happy, sad and creepy. Amazing!
Not a lot of places I can hear Touhou songs sung with English lyrics, really love the care put into the wordcraft. I love the Japanese sung versions as well, but when I am playing or listening to instrumental version of Hartmann's Youkai Girl, these are the lyrics I am hearing in my head or singing outloud.
OH GOD I'VE WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS ONE AAAAAAAA Screen goes black and white. Koishi has one of her little semi-lucid moments of insight. I also forgot to mention (now that i'm not screaming) I really like the transition between the semi-lucid moment and the last verse there. It's a nice bit of subtext suggesting there was a large passage of time. Especially since Hartmann's is a REALLY difficult song to... do anything with really. I think you nailed it perfectly. EDIT: Also I just realized this was released on Koishi day. Derp.

Your beautiful, heart-breaking lyrics really bring Koishi to life. The poor thing. I just want to wrap her in a warm, fluffy blanket and give her cake and hot chocolate until she finds the strength to open her third eye...
Dang! This is one of my new favorites🙂 I especially like the part from "We may never know each other all that clearly" to "that maybe I'm a thing that doesn't have to fade away" I never imagined Koishi with that high pitched of a voice, but it is definitely one of my favorite voices of yours. I wouldn't mind hearing it again with another Touhou song.
Before Little Princess, this used to be my favorite character theme, and Koishi is one of my top favorite characters if not the favorite. So therefore THIS FUCKING SONG IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING~ I'm definitely satisfied with how you portrayed her here, including the voice which I feel fits her more than the mature voice some people apparently prefer for whatever reason. How do you expect her to have a mature voice if she's an eternal child? She's an imaginary friend that communicates best with children and your own self in childhood, and is still present even in your adulthood. Therefore, she never "matured" like you did which is why you don't communicate with her as much anymore due to the differences in personality you developed over her. For an extremely complex character I personally feel like she's relatively easy for myself to understand her a bit better so I accept nothing but the best portrayals of her in regards to fanon, and you for sure did that beyond expectations~
And the more I listen to it I realize how properly sinister the theme and Koishi are. Ugh she's so amazing. She's sweet, cheerful, bubbly, nice, but at the same time creepy, dark, mysterious, insane... It's like flipping a personality switch WAY more than just once, and it happens instantly and too often to your liking, but just enough to make you stay around her instead of getting the fuck away as far as you can, lol. And you captured all of it perfectly, I can just picture the whole scene conversing with Koishi so easily in my head. Yeah I'm insane, sure, but that makes me understand Koishi better for being so insanely complex~ :P Absolutely loving this song~
I don't know this place, girl, or why I'm here. It seems as though she is just my imagination so there is only one thing that can stop her... MY SCHIZOPHRENIC PILLS
I found this song a few days ago and I could not stop listening to it, just love the lyrics, it feels great to Koishi, I have respect for those who add lyrics and vocal to existing themes because of the difficulties that this brings and your voice also has potential, keep polishing it and you will improve a lot, you won a new subscriber!
This is soo awesome! the lyrics that totally fitting with koishi, and rhyming! Fitting pitch for her voice! awesome video edit! and that phone ring tho
I don't know a damn thing about this game. I ended up here from some weird algorithmic rabbit hole tunneling. But the author of these lyrics, from a purely songwriting perspective? That's some talent. I love this.
Thank you so much...! It's really, really awesome to hear that it could impress someone out of context -- neither better nor worse than impressing a fan, but a really unique thing to be proud of. I appreciate your time to comment as well as the random fate that led you here, and hope you have a nice day~ (Also, let me know if you eventually end up spiraling into Touhou fandom, 'cause that'll make me doubly proud. It's good stuff, I promise.)
@@lyrica-live well, my interest has been piqued. So I'll definitely be looking into it. Also, if you'd ever want help with any instrumental work, I'm always looking for an excuse to un-retire my instruments.
I couldn't remember anything about this song but it popped into head earlier today. After 4 hours of searching for it again, here I am. Congrats kid, haven't fought to find a song like that in years. You did good.
Holy...! Now that I think about it, this pitch fits Koishi really well. Is this the highest pitch ever done (on this channel)? (I think it may be, but I'm not sure...)
Now that I listened to that one, you might be right. I just haven't noticed (probably because Star's part is so short or the fact that majority of the time there is more than one voice...)
Thank you very much~ ;v; I was worried about people not liking the "weird" sort of sound here. I don't think it's very pretty or elegant, but there was a certain vibe I wanted to capture. That said, I am surprised by some other comments saying that they expected a lower or more mature voice; that's a counter I didn't predict. I did consider switching to a lower voice for that one more serious part, but overall I definitely see Koishi as one of the more childlike and thus higher-pitched characters in the series. So I'm glad you agree! To answer your question, I have more or less four different levels of pitch editing that I do: no pitch (natural voice), +1 semitone, +2 semitones, and +3 semitones. Depending on the original pitch of the music and how I intone my voice while actually singing, it might sound higher or lower even between different characters with the same level of editing. So yes, this one is the highest, +3 semitones! But several others have also been +3, including Nazrin, Kyouko, Kogasa, Ellen, and Remilia. Also, both Star _and_ Sunny were pitched +3 in the fairy song, while Luna and Cirno were +2. I can barely tell after the fact myself, and I'm proud of that because I was purposely aiming with my voice to sound more cutesy for Star and more rough for Sunny.
The player character featured in Lost Word carries a journal that records all of the events she perceives in Gensokyo. If the journal cannot be altered or manipulated in any way, then the PC is, in a way, *_immune to Koishi's subconscious manipulation._*
Ahhh, this is just GREAT! This is top-tier lyrics right here, all the rhymes, all the meaning behind portraying Koishi's personality, her ability, and her background... This is just like a poem, but with the music and tunes. Just look at the rhymes, look at the lyrics in the description.... I'm dumbfounded. Just wow. Maybe it is just that my English is not that good due to being a trilingual, but this lyrics amazes me.
I'm sitting with my friend in a cafe. We're doing our own studying and chatting about whatever's on our mind - then, suddenly, I verbally squeal as I see "Lyrica Live (1)". I excitedly click on the link and rapidly plug in my earphones, and my excitement is only furthered when I see the theme of one of my favourite, tragic, enigmatic characters on screen. As usual, you not only capture what the character stands for and encapsulates, but you go a step further and deepen it. I relate to Koishi as a tragic person who sealed their third eye away to escape hate and lost themselves in the process. They're carefree and apparently joyous, but only because they lack the ability to recognise their loss; they lack the vessel of a conscious mind to hold any kind of weight. In your lyrics, what I love most is how you play with the duality of interpersonal and intrapersonal loss through creating a conversation with the listener. Rather than simply listening to someone say, "I'm this, I do that, etcetera, etcetera," you're caught in a conversation that's an invitation of, "let me share myself with you." Building on this, I really like how you add a dimension of apparent time; "nice to meet you!" which turns into "leave, no, wait, stay with me" which fades out and back into, "it's been a while - how long of a while?" White noise is a motif I never previously associated with Koishi, but it works very well. Both as a lyric, an effect and a metaphor, it manages to capture that notion of everything and nothing in being. As a creator, personally, it encourages me to consider what sort of subtleties I can capture with concepts that are metaphorical, auditory, visual and kinaesthetic. Thank you so much for the ongoing contribution you are through the words you weave and the musical magic you imbue.
Saw this was a thing. Paused RPGLimitBreak stream to listen. Koishi is one of my favorites. Also, in the lyrics on your tumblr, that's a nice easter egg. **n o t i c e m e**
Listening to this brings me back to early april of 2021 when I started getting into the lore of koishi and satori. This is really nostalgic for some reason
This is the perfect lyrics for this character as it makes so much sense to this character alone, Koishi is that girl who is your imaginary friend, but once you start growing up you realize how much you actually feared it and then it's like what the heck and you would become scared. Koishi is such an interesting character and with her mind being closed everytime you awake from sleep you would forget that you would know her. So the lyrics match up with that, however with her powers I think she would be able to give us our subconscious the ability to remember who she was. This however would be something hard to do, yet it would take a bit to learn for her.
The lyrics fit really well with the actual song, and your voice nails said lyrics, I like this lyrical cover of Hartmann's Youkai Girl practically as much as the source song.
I love how you were able to perfectly match up the lyrics with the beats this is one of the best lyric covers of a video game songs I’ve ever heard. The lyrics themselves are great, meaningful and really honor Koishi’s character and backstory, with your voice and the lyrics even matching the tone show fits in the song itself. Simply immaculate.

@@jakcesleepingrn5739 But it would've rhymed with "eyes." Lyrics generally like to set up the expectations by making them rhyme. Although I didn't thought of eyes, I was genuinely caught off guard by the word "face" because it didn't rhyme, which is genius.
I honestly hated that lyric choice, but smart.
Fun fact, Koishi's color palette is Satori's but inverted. So if you invert the two, Satori becomes Koishi and Koishi becomes Satori!!

Bravo.

I feel like these lyrics really drive home the point I never heard from anyone until now: Koishi's power could very well be a curse, leaving her forever unable to maintain a true relationship with someone, because they'll always forget her the moment they look away.
_However..._
People seem to be forgetting that Koishi literally doesn't have a conscious mind.
I'm pretty sure babies have enough of a consciousness to feel emotions and want things.
yeah but... arent feelings something unconscious? wouldnt she still have some feelings (like loneliness), even if she cant consciously recognize them?
altho maybe not, but then it becomes a weird kind of existential horror, the idea of someone just being... entirely unable to comprehend whats happening or have feelings, even though they're still technically "living"
@@Ponera-Sama actually all baby's are narcissists until they reach the ripe ol age of 3.

Koishi thinking we will forget her as our imaginary friend
Schizophrenia: allow me to introduce myself
It just occurred to me that her favourite song being the same as the one she’s singing too is because she’s forgotten all the others.
Usually I like to pick out a line of lyrics to analyse in a song, but this cover of Hartmann's Youkai Girl is so dense with symbolism or narrative that it's really hard to do. No wonder that this is Lyrica Live's top cover in views as of writing.
I have managed to pick out a line that really resonates with me though:
1:55
"And believing you believe in me is making me believe that
maybe I'm a thing that doesn't have to fade away".

Pear finally finished this.
I'm just now realizing the three different filters on the video represent the id (normal), superego (inverted), and ego (gray) respectively, very creative
I think the filters are more to convey the warring of her conscious/unconscious and the pain of forgetting.
Her normal happy optimism (normal)
The anxiety and doubt of her conscious mind which has been suppressed by closing her third eye (inverted)
And the gray conveying her fading away as she is forgotten/forgets.
The ego/superego/id idea is interesting tho, I'm sure Freud would be a Koishi fan if he were alive rn

I know less than nothing about touhou, but I’ve listened to this about a dozen times. It’s so good
I'll tell you enough to give context for the song:
Koishi Komeiji is a Satori like her sister...
If we look at Koishi closing her 3rd eye through the lens of Freud, we can understand it as Koishi shutting off her conscious and subconscious minds, leaving only her unconscious mind
In Japanese, Koishi's name can be written as 小石, which literally translates to "pebble." A character within Touhou named Akyuu muses that Koishi is like a pebble in the gravel of a road.
Welp, here comes the flood

"As cute as a kitten" and "as smart as a crow," you say? Well there's one kitten who's far more feared than she's adored... and though crows are generally intelligent, I know of a certain birdbrain who's definitely Koishi's intellectual equal. xD
Also, was that "believing in you, believing in me" part another TTGL reference?

I never imagined Koishi with that high pitched of a voice, but it is definitely one of my favorite voices of yours. I wouldn't mind hearing it again with another Touhou song.
Peargor finally did it!
Before Little Princess, this used to be my favorite character theme, and Koishi is one of my top favorite characters if not the favorite. So therefore THIS FUCKING SONG IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING~
I'm definitely satisfied with how you portrayed her here, including the voice which I feel fits her more than the mature voice some people apparently prefer for whatever reason.
Yeah I'm insane, sure, but that makes me understand Koishi better for being so insanely complex~ :P

Lyrica Live such a thorough explanation! Thanks for clarifying ^^
After all these years this still hits so hard
In honor of Koishi Day I have come back to listen to this amazing song for god knows how many replays.

The player character featured in Lost Word carries a journal that records all of the events she perceives in Gensokyo. If the journal cannot be altered or manipulated in any way, then the PC is, in a way, *_immune to Koishi's subconscious manipulation._*
This song hits me on a personal level.I just feel like that all the time, like I'm just a third wheel that if forgotten nothing would ever change.
@AdamS it does,
Great work !
I love the lyrics, really accurate and with a rythm fitting the song.
Rather than simply listening to someone say, "I'm this, I do that, etcetera, etcetera," you're caught in a conversation that's an invitation of, "let me share myself with you." Building on this, I really like how you add a dimension of apparent time; "nice to meet you!" which turns into "leave, no, wait, stay with me" which fades out and back into, "it's been a while - how long of a while?"
White noise is a motif I never previously associated with Koishi, but it works very well.
Your lirics managed to cement this song into my mind, and that only happens when they are really tailored to the actual concept.
Congrats
NEW THUMBNAIL AFTER ALMOST 6 YEARS??!!!
the fact that this cover has gained a million views, and Lyrica Live has only 23 thousand subscribers - inexcusable!
1 MILLION VIEWS CONGRATS ASA!!!!!

Koishi is one of my favorites.
Also, in the lyrics on your tumblr, that's a nice easter egg.

Listening to this brings me back to early april of 2021 when I started getting into the lore of koishi and satori. This is really nostalgic for some reason
@Kyle Tunell 2 hope you enjoy it as much as i did!
Its cool because it makes you think "Oh wait they said face? Thought they would say *eyes* I guess thats the *surprise*
"as cute as a kittin, as smart as a crow"
well ain't that clever
I would like to mention that 1:15 - 2:00 is absolutely perfect
Came here from Pear's animation
The other day I just thought about a cover for this song...I didn’t expect it to come this quick! Great job Lyrica!
I dropped everything I was doing for this
Congratulations! This song finally reached a million views!
Normal person: what rhymes with surprise...I guess eyes works
This song: fAcE
Common sense doesn't exist in Gensokyo
The lyrics fit really well with the actual song, and your voice nails said lyrics, I like this lyrical cover of Hartmann's Youkai Girl practically as much as the source song.
OOOOH I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
IT'S SO BRILLIANT AND VALID
It's sad during its bridge ...
I love the implementation of her Urban Legend
I love how you were able to perfectly match up the lyrics with the beats this is one of the best lyric covers of a video game songs I’ve ever heard. The lyrics themselves are great, meaningful and really honor Koishi’s character and backstory, with your voice and the lyrics even matching the tone show fits in the song itself. Simply immaculate.
