  • Ruger American rifle in 223! I would love to have one of these for myself! I think the Ruger American line of rifles are a great buy these days. This one is the predator version which comes with the threaded barrel! This American also takes standard ar mags! Do you have a Ruger American 223?

    This is one thing that erks me…. You can get a 22” barrel in .223 but only a 16” in 5.56… I want an 18-20” 5.56

      You can buy the longer barrel. It’s not very expensive as it’s a “budget rifle” but I agree it should be a standard option.

    I had the 300BLK version but only shot it once.
    I got into 300 HAM'R and bought a Wilson Combat Ruger American Ranch barrel conversion kit.
    Swapped the barrel, upgraded to a Timney trigger, added the SiCo Omega 9k suppressor, Anarchy Outdoors bolt handle and knob, Harris bipod, and the awesome MDT XRS chassis.
    The whole thing is a dream to shoot. I've shot it more in this total mod form in a week than I shot the original configuration in two years.

    Damn these went up in price a hell of a lot. I bought a brand new 30-06 model of this gun for about $350 from a gun shop. Great gun though, nice purchase. I had a Nikon bushmaster 2 BDC reticle 3-9X40 scope on mine and it would hold sub moa groups at 100 yards consistently. I used to take spent 12 gauge shells and set them up at 100 yds and shoot holes in the brass. Americans are great guns no matter what anyone says.

      @@DirtbagOutdoors The action seems pretty average. I've got some new magazines and when it gets a little warmer I'll take it out to the range. Nonetheless the huge click on the safety is maddening for hunting weapon. Ruger's a funny company I.e. They have this huge opportunity for factory add-ons and they leave it to everyone else. I can't understand why they're giving up the revenue for upgraded equipment...?

      Want a rifle with zero complaints, add $500-1k to the price.

  • @keithfredrickson7981
    @keithfredrickson7981 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow. Okay here goes: Situations that i would be completely satisfied with this rifle:
    1) It's 1900-something, and I'm a young Russian soldier about to charge the German line in WWI. Due to a shortage of rifles I must charge the German front armed with nothing but blind courage, hoping to retrieve a rifle from one of my dead comrades before getting killed by enemy fire.
    Note: In this scenario I would only want said bolt action rifle if i had no weapon. As for the rest of the Russian soldiers they most likely would be armed with a Mosin rifle made in the 1890's but would be chambered in 7.62X54, an already superior caliber to the 556/223.
    Scenario 2) I'm engaged in some form of a number of different possible military or paramilitary operations, where I almost certainly will see some combat soon. I must appear in every way dedicated and prepared to fight but for one of a number of different potential reasons I do not wish to be successful in battle but rather I hope to die in combat so my family can cash in on my life insurance policy and be provided for. In this scenario the American Ranch Rifle would be perfect because it looks like it's modern and belongs in the battle but it is inferior in every way to whatever else I may come up against. Think changeup in baseball.
    So there it is my two reasons for having or wanting this rifle I cannot think of any other reason why especially since Ruger makes a semi-automatic version of the same chamber called the Mini-14 and it cost the same price.
    I'm open to other scenarios if you disagree all ears.

    • @DirtbagOutdoors
      @DirtbagOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol, i enjoyed this.
      However, a mini 14 is NOWHERE near the same price as the american. The american can take standard ar15 mags, which is a far superior attribute to the mini 14s proprietary mags.
      The recoil is WAYYYYY less than a mosin, and you can fire more down range with less effort in a shorter amount of time. That itself is a huge bonus. It may not have the energy of a 54r, but it has readily available ammo, magazines, and anyone can handle it. Its also cheaper than a nice mosin in today's market.

      @@DirtbagOutdoors if your just going on cost yeah 308 and 223, but 270 and 30-06 are way better than 308 and 243 is a lot better than 223 as far as performance goes, especially when you get into reloading. 243 can be shot accurately at over 1200 yards 223 drops off at about 600 yards Even the 308 drops off at around 900 yards. I think you would find that 243 and 30-06 are great if you just take a look at just how versatile they are. You can literally load those two calibers to hunt just about anything, and at surprisingly long range.
