Cary Grant walks into the room and you can't take your eyes off of him... I've seen this movie many times, and it's still fresh. There have been many fine actors throughout time, but he could do it all; drama, screwball comedy and everything in between. Mr. Grant was and is a true original, the likes of whom we'll not see again.
Cary Grant is so perfect with his facial expression when performing his role, and his body language matches with ease the script demands. Someone who can dictate to the viewers the essence of being relaxed.
Still such an incomparable Classic nearly 80 Years later.....!!! 👌 One of _sooooo_ many Hitchcock Masterpieces, with another seamless script and an *A+* cast delivering truly remarkable performances.😲 ☑
Like Newton and Einstein, Hitchcock is a genius for ALL times! Can't believe, with what such gentle, 'tipsy', humour he starts this film! Unusal, that only a genius can try and carry it on! I am now at 7 minutes and already I can see the greatness of this one!
When I see Cary Grant here. I see my father just around the time we got him back from the War. And I fall in love once again. With both of them of course.
I saw this movie many years ago thought about time I saw it again I'm glad I did great movie they don't make movies like this anymore good dialogue good plot good acting. Not a bunch of foul language!!!!!!!!!!!!
This version cuts out the scene where Claude Rains finds the broken wine bottle in the cellar and realizes that his wife is an American agent (1:13:35) . Why?? That was a pivotal scene--if anybody remembers.
@@raghavshete2425 Exactly! In a prior scene, Claude Rains couldn't enter the cellar (to get more wine) because that key was missing from his key ring. It just shows how tightly put together this movie is; every scene has meaning. Hitchcock was a genius.
These classics…you just can’t beat them…especially the timeless ones by Alfred Hitchcock. The qualities that made them classics are what also makes them so great for repeat watching; much like a favorite book that you’ll keep on your shelf, (real or digital,) and read it from time to time. A little thing I just noticed 41:40 that the actress who plays Alexs’ mother looks young enough to be his sister or even his girlfriend/wife or maybe it’s just that Claude Reins looks too old to be her son. But in the case of Cary Grant & Ingrid Bergman, they look perfectly matched as the ever so dreamy film idol couple. Really, Ingrid Bergman had that minimalist Scandinavian beauty that was so alluring to watch…never too much makeup or fussy hairstyle or anything overdone, but I could look at Cary Grant all day long. In his prime, that man was drop-dead handsome. Let’s just say, “the camera loved him.”
Bergman had a natural beauty that required no artifice. It radiated from within. It came upon you slowly and expressed itself through her acting, her moods, her eyes... she was an actress who happened to be beautiful. Elizabeth Taylor was also beautiful. Even as a child. It was what struck you the moment she was on screen. Her beauty overwhelmed her words, her actions IMHO.
So far, 15 minutes in, I'm kind of b o r e d by So Much smooching! Good Grief! However, with these actors and this director and this Spy theme, I know I'll enjoy this film...! And I did! Wonderful.
Maybe maybe.. The Best Hichtcock's movie. On the surface it looks like a silly spies movie, although marvelously crafted. Uranium in Brasil?.. Give me a break. The movie is about jealousy, love and pain. An unique Masterpiece. 🌟🌟🌟
This is the ONLY Hitchcock cameo in which he participates in the suspense plot. 1:03:54 By drinking down a glass of champagne he is making the wine run out faster!
Yes, that was disturbing. But, watching it again, he was very concerned and kept his hand at the ready, in case he needed to grab the wheel. Besides, he was Cary Effing Grant, and could have easily prevented a mishap.
Interesting and very grown up story, thoughtfully written and well acted. (I avoid the term adult as it has another connotation.) Somehow I never saw it before now.
Yep…I had the same thing….fortunately it came back in, but I like to hear the intro music as the credits roll…it’s all a part of the completely immersive movie watching experience.
Some films leave it to the imagination. No need to spoon feed an intelligent audience. The audience of origin for this film lived through a terrible war. They knew and understood consequences quite graphically.
My parents were married 4 years when this came out. I wonder if they saw it? Great movie. Great stars. ( but how could that little man think he could pull a beauty like Bergman? ) I don’t think that set up would work in today’s films. It would have to be at least believable. Lucky Dianne cannon.
