My 1st car was A green VN, I loved it lol. I'm hoping you go all in original on it, Modded VN's are dime a dozen. Doing a restore would be cool to watch, and no Tubbing I reckon. I liked the Falcon videos to, lots of memories there as well. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this project mate :)
Good mix of things there. VR steering wheel, right rear is a VN taillight, left rear is VP and rear garnish is VP, resprayed grille and radiator cover, looks like battery box has no rust, it will have 3 dots on the passenger sill, and rear window rust, I reckon the tubbing will be based on how much of that chassis rail was cut away and if that bit is salvageable
Split tub it I reckon use the old tubs there and move them inward weld a strip in to make it the gap 👌🏽will look more factory and still have room for a big there

It might be worth fixing and completely restoring it back to the factory conditions - it will still cost a lot of money, but it still might be worth doing as a restoration bit by bit at a time.
Are you planning on road reg? If so I assume you'll need a mod plate for tubs . It was a grey bar car btw , only s and ss had colour coded bars (berlina were partial and calais were silver like your rear bar) . If it were me I'd put it back to stock guards or use it to fix another body . 👍
That thing is a mess. But it's fixable. I would take it back to stock. Does it have its original build sheet? If yes then it will tell you if it had painted bars. And the none painted bars are grey not black. If you keep the tubs will it need to be engineered? If go back to stock will it need also engineered?
How far did they cut into the rails? I would honestly scrap that car- it has been fucked with too much, and if they have taken a afir whack of the rail out, that is a shit ton of work (either picking another VN apart or adding 3/4 chassis with 4 or 5 link). Part it out, start with somthing cleaner
Go though rod shop I did money this then 1500 and shorten the diff my self and got axles done cost $500 Max you'll pay would be 2k if you don't go to fancy
It's a shame all the idiots these days still neglect these Aussie cars which are better than anything new today! They don't make them anymore just look after them and enjoy them. Blows my mind.
Weld the original metal back in. Those tubs are crap anyway. It’ll be interesting to see how you get the suspension mounts to line up again!

VNs were the poster child for the awful 90's car modding scene. Monster tachos, randomly painted dash pieces. Oh God, it was awful

Not much of a Holden fan but those cars are tubed and have the really big wheels also lowered makes those vn’s looks good

You seem to have everything to put it back to untubbed. Looking stock is looking different to most all the other VN's out there.

Hard to find a decent base VN these days. Most have been flogged to death! They’ve had harder lives than the AU!
I think it would look better tubbed but I like the e series much better
