  • We test the new Nimbl Evolution camper in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada.
    The lifting-roof camper is built on a custom flatbed, affixed to a 2020 Ford F350 with rear locking differential, front ARB locker, ICON suspension, and 35-inch tires.

    I can't get by the canvas front. I saw one in a light breeze and it was flapping like crazy. I weathered a hurricane with horizontal wind and rain in my hard side truck camper and was dry, quiet and cozy

    Nice video, and good selection of music to drive the piece. My only critique would be to show more of the inside and the details when you spoke of them. Great looking camper.

      I agree...the camera was focused a bit too much on him and not the interior of the camper itself. A shot from the bed looking to the back would be nice and I wonder what's in the rear driver's corner. I reckon I'll go to the website and find out. I'd also like to see what suspension upgrades he's done to the truck to handle the load...he's got a link to ICON...but what products specifically. I just bought a 350 like his but it's a supercab. Same engine (7.3 is fantastic, BTW) and I'll be mounting a Hallmark Nevada to an aluminum flatbed like he has. I'm all about what these guys are doing with suspension as the stock suspension is likely to be too stiff for off road travel.

    I admired this camper before it was rebranded and still do. This pop up camper is a FWC on steroids but the price reflects this as well. I'm sorry if I missed it during this tour but was their any mention of its dimensions and if it can fit in a high roof shipping container. Obviously COVID has all but stopped this but its one of its major selling points. The only other downside might be the lack of FORD mechanics or dealerships that might work on this truck internationally? Would love to see Nimbl come out with a self contained camper box that can mount to other platforms other than pick ups or maybe cutaway van alla Bimobil. Beautiful camper all the same, thanks!

      It can fit in a container if properly cribbed (to limit suspension movement side to side).

    you're only as good as your weakest point. so, soft tent sides mean you're still getting all of the noise, moisture, and temperature deltas from outside.

      It's one of our favourite parts of the camper. Feeling like you are out in nature when you are in a Queen bed with a kitchen next to you us awesome, Occasionally, we sleep in a plaza or something (helps to avoid weekends). We've slept in over 100F, some other owners use it as a ski-bum cabin. The heater is ridiculously good.

    So how do you bring firewood? Camping is not camping without a campfire, right. Can you pull a trailer with a couple of quads, extra gas, a huge cooler and... Firewood?

    the rear over hand is quite a lot...

    • @ExpeditionPortal
      @ExpeditionPortal  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We noted that too, but were surprised that it didn't make contact. The angle seems to really aid with the overall departure effectiveness.

    • @thisbigroadtrip
      @thisbigroadtrip 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure if that is changeable but, on one, the overhand is less, It looks like they have a spare mounted between the cab and the camper. This used to be an option. So, with no spares the camper is further forward and less overhang. I haven't heard any owners say a longer overhang is an issue though.

    Long wheelbase Ford?

  • @Goodthingmanship

    hardly ever is the wieght and center of gravity versus the remaining capacity of the vehicle ever discussed on this type of product, it should be the first thing, it must be disclosed. it is a safety issue. The quick conclusion from the absence is that is too heavy...

      We agree, which is why all our reviews include a vetting of GVWR vs. actual weight.
